Your future existence in this world

I'm nearly 17 and I hope to study English Literature at Uni next year. I'm going nuts and applying for St. John's College Oxford (in my dreams) but obviously other ones as back-up. At least I could say I tried!
Hmm, what else. I love to read of course, and my favourite stories are Flowers for Algernon and The Bridal Party.

I adore the fashion of the 1940s/50s and often think of indulging in gorgeous dresses thank I will never, ever wear. I like wearing my hair (when I can be bothered) in tight curls. My idol is Bettie Page.

Procrastination is what I do best!

I am in my last year in high school/college (other countries may call it by this)

I am 18 years old.
I am hoping to study journalism/radio broadcasting when i go to a university. I love to have fun, listen to music, and try new things. My goal is to be independent and earn a decent salary to support myself and any kids I might want to have in the future.

Angel, you're little one is blessing. I am sorry to hear your loss, but it happens and I can only imagine. Now you have two lovely children! Good luck with everything. I think that's a great accomplishment. :)

Turning 18 this July. I haven't done much my life especially lately of any big successful recognition i used to run around alot being young, confused and have already lived through my own personal hell so i'm glad to say i'm growing out of it now and have learnt alot. The past 2 years have been very quiet and now things are starting to happen and i know its coming so for me life is literally only just starting.

I'm going to the army for 4 years either in Intelligence or combat and i'm hopefully getting in soon(regarding i pass)!I've got a big assessment in 2 weeks where they see if I'm sane, give me some interviews and check out my hoogies. Its pretty much just too burn off time now so i can save money, personal development,a qualification you know all that good stuff. Then i'm going to travel and ditch that whole army lifestyle maybe move into work in sound editing, live in the wild i really dont know lol. Well thats the plan and things never usually goes as planned but even when i'm a 22 year old man i hope i'm still posting updates here.:D

They were twins and died within two weeks of each other - it's very very rare and was a bit of a shock. Afterwards I was told I'd probably not be able to have kids for a long time - 5 months later, I found out I was expecting Jake

His birth was unexpectedly quick and I was only given one shot of pain killers which made him doze off - when his sister was born 8 years ago, she was screaming her head off, but then she did take 46 hours as opposed to less than 2

It was a huge relief - but I was so tired and a bit stunned at it being all over so quickly, I didn't think about it much until later on when I was settled on the postnatal ward.

Can't really imagine how it was for you,but the past is the past, and you have a small bundle of joy to keep away from drugs and porn,so good luck with that :)

I'm not having a baby until they invent some kind of teleport beam to get it out of your belly or something like that :)

Im 23 :)
Hmmmm work as barstaff in a club near where i live :D
free drinks woop lol

Hmmm really into car moddin and car detailing
And just found out goin to be a dad! so well excited but nerves lol so saving and buyin alot of baby things!. Think thats me sumed up pretty well haha

I'm 17 turning 18 in November, which is still months away...

I am currently in my final year at high school, and can't wait to finish!
Although I am totally clueless as to what I want to do after I graduate. I wouldn't mind doing personal training, i can get the required certificates to qualify as one in as short as 8 weeks! But I'd have to be working pretty much every day of those 8 weeks to complete it. Though, i'd probably use it as a side thing to get a few extra dollars in the wallet.

I know I definately want to get a job after school, I don't care what it is as long as I get decent salary! And I would like to work out again as I find during school I don't have time to do it. I'll also still try to stay in the basketball area, it makes for good exercise, meeting new people and having a great time!

As of now, I'm relaxing in my 3 week holiday only to return and dread about my final examinations which can affect my future to a major extent D:

I want to make Movies when I grow up. Both writing the Screenplays and directing the filming of the film.
Making/Doing Movies is something I REALLY LOVE... I just love doing creative stuff related to creating characters, stories, settings, and things like that. Movies and fiction is what I love the most... and animals, especially dogs and reptiles. :)

Well things have changed as i said things never go as planned.I didn't get accepted into the army and i had been working hard at it so long so now i can't get in for a year and by then i probably don't want too..i wanted to do it when i was really young.

I'm trying real hard to find work at the moment and then when a course opens up i'm going too try move into sound editing and see how i go with that.It would be so cool to make sounds for movies, video games or making music.I don't know why i've always liked the idea of digitally manipulating sound.

I'm sorry to hear it didn't go as planned, Hoady. But if the military path is right for you then you'll still want to do it later. And if you don't want to do it a year later then it's maybe not the right thing for you anyway? I was in the army when I was 19 (conscript) and a second time in my mid twenties (professional).
Things tend to get a bit more complicated as one get older though, if a girlfriend, kids, education or civil career gets in the way. In Norway we have a law that gives you the right to take a leave from your civil job to serve the military. When you're done with the military you have a legal right to step back in to your occupation.

Did you want to go to Afghanistan or somewhere else? When I see news from Afghanistan where our troops are in combat, something inside me wakes up and I miss the army. To fight is to live and I've not been much alive the last few years. Man is created for combat but modern life has tried to tame him. If only I was 24 again... then I would not only be a stupid and willing to risk my life, I would be young too.

Wow you served in the army? What role did you do?Sorry for all the questions but I really didn't expect that at all you don't seem the fighting type y'know. But no if i get a girlfriend, really good job etc i will not go to the army especially with a relationship.

But I'm only 17 so that might be a big gripe i guess they don't want teenagers to go in half sure then hate it halfway through boot camp wanting to leave. But i was 110% wanting to go and i still do so.But yes i wanted to go to Afghanistan I've actually talked to the military recently and they said i could join part time within 6 months(application roll overs too part time, pain in the ass)and then i might go to East Timor or whatever oversea work is being offered.I'm thinking of stepping back from Intelligence and doing something with more moving around.I don't know i'm still eager to go now, i thought i wouldn't i've been watching movies and reading lots about military history it just interests me.But i dunno when i go part time i guess i'll know if i enjoy it i'm going into Airfield Defence or Rifleman hopefully get myself into a good specific role after ranking private.

I've had several roles, most of them as driver for nearly all sorts of vehicles, ranging from forklifts to APCs. I've been infantry soldier and gunner also.

I know what you mean, I'm not the tough fighting type of person when I don't have to. But all of us have a wide series of qualities, and while it comes natural to use my harmless "soft" side of myself in everyday life, I do also have that warrior side of my personality that keeps the balance.

When I posted the previous post I had just watched news from Afghanistan and I was a bit gloomy and philosophical. Not everything was in a literal sense.

What do you mean about going part time? Isn't it all or nothing?

Well by the sounds of things your definitely life experienced.I want to experience combat while its still in the softer stages, i know that might sound offensive but i'm talking in comparison too world wars.I don't like turning a blind eye to that sort of stuff, call me paranoid but war is still potential to happen on a large scale and people don't acknowledge it because they haven't experienced it...i may not have either but its just impossible to imagine what its like having your life on the line everyday getting bombarded with bombs and bullets..Never forget.

The peaceful warrior, thats a really good quality you know.

Well you can go part time here(the army reserves)its actually a big part of the army in Australia,if you volunteer you can go into combat through part time i don't know why such a big emphasis is put on the reserves. In 6 months i'm going to part time, much easier to get in at my age even though the legal age is 17 they make it difficult for teens to go full time.Maybe because they got big egos at that time, you know wanting to see combat and such then they wanna get out but can't.

I'm sort of glad i didn't get accepted full time, honestly i think i need some maturing to do.

Young men and women should not sign up for war missions. To join the military and learn is fine when you're 18-19, but don't go to war zones before you get a little older. Young soldiers can make just as good combatants as elder equally trained soldiers, but fighting skills is only a little part of the whole. And the most difficult task is often to return to civil life afterwards. Alot of people run into psycological problems. The older and more mature you are, the less vulnerable you are. I don't like the idea of sending 19-20 year old boys to war. In the army they said that the preferred age for a (professional) unit was a mixed group ranging 25-35 in age.

But as we have conscription in Norway, everyone had done 9-18 months of initial service when they were 18-20 years old. And after that we have to do two weeks of military exercise every few years to maintain the skills. -Or this is at least how it used to be. Nowadays one has to be lucky in order to be recruited.
