Not a mention of RE9 (or any RE content) at Game Awards 2024. We got a looooong ways to go. Dusk Golem trying to save face after being mostly wrong on his predictions this year. Looks like I will not be gaming for a while, but the good news from this crisis is that this hopefully means they are taking their time with it and wanna do it right. That is a double edged sword as it could collapse under the weight of its own ambitions like RE6 or it could actually be a (near) masterpiece like RE2R.
My advice would be to not listen to any rumors at all from anyone and just wait until they finally reveal the game and THEN become rumor scientists and try to figure out the game based on what Capcom and ONLY Capcom tells us. Probably no official reveal until Spring 2025 at the very least.
As of this post, here's what we know right now:
1) RE9 is in development
2) Koshi Nakanishi is directing it.
That's it! That's the only pieces of info we have. Based off of this information we can deduce that it will probably more akin to 7 than Village.
That is a little bit worrisome because I think most of us are aware that RE7 left a lot to be desired (lukewarm plot, characters, gameplay, etc.). This is mostly bad news.
There is, however, ONE silver lining that could be construed as good news. Nakanishi also directed 'Not a Hero', which was a premise that showed a LOT of promise. Whilst the gameplay was a bit heavy on the action side, it introduced us to Blue Umbrella, introduced some techincool, tacticool, Metroidvanian gameplay elements, and the final lab area/boss fight was superb. So, if Nakanishi sees the error of his ways and focuses on the more promising elements of RE7, I think there could be potential.
See, I calibrated all of that with a tiny bit of confirmed information and ignored the rumors completely. You can do it to!
Have fun y'all I got some real life to attend to in the meantime.
