I'm now playing A Quiet Place: The Road Ahead, and Moon Mystery. I really like AQP: TRA, and it has a similar feel to it as the way the movies affected me. There's this effect they do when the creatures scan for you that makes an eerie rattling sound, followed by a tinnitus ring that is just like in the movies. They also blur the screen just the right amount when this happens. This game has been compared to Alien Isolation, but I prefer it to that game because the Alien was too easy to sneak past and hide from in AI. I never had to use distraction items even on the hardest mode. In AQP: TRA, you will not survive without distraction items, and careful navigating.

Moon Mystery is pretty good too. It's not a big budget title, which shows at times, but it's graphics are pretty good, as are the exploring and puzzles, and it's not too bad combat wise either.

Taking a break from gaming, and honestly probably won't play anything until RE9, which should coincide with the release of iPhone 17 Pro Max and will enter unchartered waters and try a brand new RE game on mobile. Trump's incoming tariffs on Chinese goods means that I am forced to switch to Apple and pay tons of $$$ for a device that has roughly the same battery life and features at 3x the cost. Joy.

As they say though, everything happens for a reason and things eventually fall into place so if that's what it takes to play future RE titles, so be it!

Not a mention of RE9 (or any RE content) at Game Awards 2024. We got a looooong ways to go. Dusk Golem trying to save face after being mostly wrong on his predictions this year. The good news from this crisis is that this hopefully means they are taking their time with it and wanna do it right. That is a double edged sword as it could collapse under the weight of its own ambitions like RE6 or it could actually be a (near) masterpiece like RE2R.

My advice would be to not listen to any rumors at all from anyone and just wait until they finally reveal the game and THEN become rumor scientists and try to figure out the game based on what Capcom and ONLY Capcom tells us. Probably no official reveal until Spring 2025 at the very least.

As of this post, here's what we know right now:

1) RE9 is in development
2) Koshi Nakanishi is directing it.

That's it! That's the only pieces of info we have. Based off of this information we can deduce that it will probably more akin to 7 than Village.
That is a little bit worrisome because I think most of us are aware that RE7 left a lot to be desired (lukewarm plot, characters, gameplay, etc.). This is mostly bad news.

There is, however, ONE silver lining that could be construed as good news. Nakanishi also directed 'Not a Hero', which was a premise that showed a LOT of promise. Whilst the gameplay was a bit heavy on the action side, it introduced us to Blue Umbrella, introduced some techincool, tacticool, Metroidvanian gameplay elements, and the final lab area/boss fight was superb. So, if Nakanishi sees the error of his ways and focuses on the more promising elements of RE7, I think there could be potential.

See, I calibrated all of that with a tiny bit of confirmed information and ignored the rumors completely. You can do it to!

Am playing Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Remastered and absolutely loving it. For the record, I did not like this game when it was released in 2006 and thought it was silly but this Remaster has fixed all of the major annoyances and updated/improved the visuals to look more realistic rather than the bloom-filled ugliness the original game featured.

Am playing as a wood elf (bosmer) sneaky assassin who is fast and backstabs for max damage and also crafts potions and poisons and snipes people/creatures from afar. The game is accommodating my play style almost perfectly and this should keep me occupied for a long long time. It is kind of annoying how level scales items are still intact but I now look at it as a puzzle that needs to be cracked rather than a nuisance that should not exist.

Have not played Stalker 2 yet but right now Stalker 1 is the closest we have to "open world Resident Evil" (Or, to be fair, Days Gone could be classified as something close to a "Open world Resident Evil" if you prefer that game) and I gotta say, after playing Oblivion Remastered and hearing rumors of RE9 being open world, it's really exciting to think what they might be able to accomplish IF THEY DO IT RIGHT. I'm guessing it could go either way and be the greatest thing since sliced bread or it could be a forgettable mediocre disaster.

There are definitely some open world inspirations to take note of though if Capcom does indeed go this route and the puzzle to solve here would be to tie in a Resident Evil atmosphere with a large open world and make it feel large and open but also restrictive and limited at the same time. It's simply not survival horror if there is an unlimited sense of freedom and exploration.

I finally finished Ghostrunner 2 a coupe days ago, wow, what an amazing and challenging game this is! The 2nd to last boss wasn't as hard as I first thought, but the final fight against the main villain was very difficult. I had more deaths on just that one fight than any of the biggest levels in the game, 314.

Last night I fired up Uncharted 4 from the Legacy of Thieves Collection. I had been putting off playing it for some time, but I was anxious to see how it looked and played on my new PC at max settings with HDR. With my prior PC there were always huge hitches in the very action heavy scenes where the game is supposed to seamlessly transition between cutscenes and gameplay, sometimes a bit of both via QTE.

So far I have played to the point where you're using a Jeep to look for a volcano, and I must say, the HDR is amazing, and it looks incredible at 4K max settings and 120 FPS, but the best thing is, it's playing pretty darn smooth as well so far. I've seen maybe like 3 times in crossing to other areas with no action or even platforming, a very subtle single micro hitch.

Fingers crossed that in those very action heavy scenes with the train and such the game stays smooth. Part of what might be making the game run better is it got patch 1.4 since I played it last. This is a game I can get lost in for hours, and I even sat through all the cutscenes in my session last night, not getting to bed until 6AM this morn.

I just beat The Last of Us Part 1 remastered on PC and despite the cool grafix, I cannot say that I enjoyed the experience very much aside from the cool weapon upgrading animations.

It's just very cliche Sony centric story, characters, and progression that does not interest me and add extreme linearity and clunky movement to the mix and we have a recipe for boredom. Not saying it's a bad game I know it has some fans but just not my cup of tea.

All said and done it's games like this that make me wish RE9 actually IS open world because it's becoming more and more apparent that this is the way to go these days and would be nice if survival horror could really make a memorable and unique open world experience that isn't cliche Sony stuff like Days Gone, which had potential but all-in-all was not something I would call groundbreaking or special.

I think the absolute best open world game would be a combination of Stalker 2, Days Gone, and Red Dead Redemption 2. Maybe Capcom should take note of these three open world games for a survival horror open world experience.

Final Fantasy 13. I saw that game being popularly disliked before so I eventually gave it a try and I like it so far. I'm at chapter 11, there's 3 chapters left to complete it. Gonna play the sequels after finishing it.

Hell is Us (demo)

This game shows a LOT of promise, folks. It's like a really good combination between Resident Evil, Dark Souls, and The Division. Seriously, check it out already, it's advertised as an action game but it is certainly more complex and challenging than it appears at first glance!

Silent Hill f

Wondering what is so fantastic about this one. This is not in the same vein of Silent Hill 1-4 and would hardly call this a worthy Silent Hill game and just seems like some mediocre horror game with a Silent Hill label on this.

Funny I post this now, because if I wanted a horror knock-off with "Souls"-like elements I would play the game from my previous post right above this one from over half a year ago. Hell is Us does it better than Silent Hill f.

Resident Evil 4 (2005)

Going to play Resident Evil 4 again tonight.. but on the PlayStation 2 (havnt played on this platform yet) RE4 was the last RE game I played on gamecube then I stopped following the franchise. RE7 caught my attention and hope to try it one day.

About to complete the Dead Space remake from 2023 (currently at the last chapter). As someone who's never played the original nor the sequels, I am pleasantly surprised by how good it is. It definitely feels like a survival horror game through and through, and I'm enjoying the atmosphere and aestethics a lot. The sound design is amazing. The action is not overdone. They even have backtracking! My only complaint is the lack of cutscenes - I know the game is supposed to feel more "immersive" when everything is experienced through the eyes of the protagonist, but this is no FPS game. This is a OTS third person game, and the story would've benefited from a few cutscenes.

And yeah, the story... Although I cannot deny it's GOOD, I think I would have enjoyed it more if it wasn't for the fact that the films Event Horizon and Solaris (two of the main inspirations for Dead Space) are some of my most watched favorite films of all time. I know the stories, symbolisms and themes of those films all too well, so nothing in this game really came a surprise to me or ignited some existential crisis - Because they do borrow a LOT from those films. I envy those who got to experience this game without having seen Event Horizon and Solaris before. I can only imagine their jaws dropping over and over again as they learned more and more...

But overall, a solid game. Can't really complain. I think I'm going to rate it 8/10.

Cronos New Dawn

It's the next step after Dead Space remake. Inspired by the film 12 monkeys and a 1980's Poland setting, Bloober Team absolutely knocks it out of the park with a multi pronged combo of a fantastic story, setting, slow burn survival horror gameplay and characters. This game is sooo good and has a growing cult following and I may just be a card carrying member. Even the cutscenes are superbly done (but not overdone).

This is how Survival Horror is done,
folks. Capcom will never make anything like this because it's too based and "cult" survival horror and they are only interested in making mass marketed blockbusters.

I could elaborate heavily but I don't think it's necessary, If you like survival horror play it! It's the ultimate stress test that is not quite Indie jank but also not mass market either. If the game is too hot to handle for you, then you don't like survival horror, simple as that.

Resident Evil 1 REMAKE (2002) GameCube

250px-Resident_Evil_2002_cover.jpg

I decided to try this again instead of RE4.. I beaten it tomany times and know whats going to happen on each chapter. I'm still no good at this RE1 remake.. it's so complicated. The crimsons zombies don't help either.
