What are you thinking? (Part 2)

And they would be ten times more if those knives were guns.

But are we specifically talking about rifles now? I was referring to guns in general, because even in the US I don't think everyone can own a rifle just like that. Anyway, where I live, the laws on gun control are much stricter and you don't hear about someone being killed every day, even in cities with a higher crime rate. That's probably not a coincidence. Guns make it way too easy to kill people, even masses, without getting close. For example, we hear about school shootings every other day, but I have yet to hear about a school knifing.

When i said rifles i meant any type of firearms in general. Unlike guns and other firearms you don't need a permit to own and carry a knife. In other words its easily obtainable. I agree with you that its easy to kill masses with guns. But remember something knifes are quieter and they don't release any type of residue on your hands or cloths. plus with the right equipment and knowledge. You can tell from the bullet the exact model of the gun it was fired from. So it will make it easier to trace. Sure we never heard about school knifing but there are a lot of people that were killed by a knife.

It's harder to kill someone if you have to get up close. Think of JFK, for example. He wouldn't have been killed if Lee Harvey Oswald just had a knife. It's easier to run away as well. Some people wouldn't risk getting up close to kill their target. It would be easier to catch them.

The thing about knives, which is partly why I find it silly when gun advocates point their fingers at knives, is that they are not designed to kill people. It's the same thing with vehicles. Both these items can be used as a weapon, but they have a functional purpose and 99.99% of people use them for the purpose they were designed for.

Go ahead and list off 10 mass knifings without using google. It's okay, I'll wait.

CT: Off to Cuba on Thursday and then off to Calgary when I get back! OMG so excited.

Actually knives were originally designed for killing. Back in the day before the time when humans started to use fire for forging. People took pride in their knives especially warriors and elders. They used to decorate the hilt of their knives with Feathers and animal skins. In fact the idea of using the knife for eating started in the 15th century. Back then only wealthy male were able to carry them and they would use them to cut their meals and the female guests next to them. The knives that you will find in every kitchen today was introduced some year between 1630 and 1640 by a french nobleman known as Cardinal Richelieu.

Have a safe trip :)

They cut the female guests? How rude!

CT: That annoying situation when the actor you like the most out of a certain show's cast portrays the character you dislike the most, so instead of being happy when you see him on screen, you're like...

They are irrelevant to each other. the last post was directed to what you said about how knives weren't design to kill people.

The typical knife is a multi purpose tool, it is designed to cut anything from wood to meat. Some are designed for special purposes, like bayonets and daggers, and they are weapons more than tools.
If you want to do mass murder, blades are not as efficient as modern weapons. But don't underestimate the threat from knives, in a fight or in a robbery (where killing is not the goal) it is easier to use a knife than it is to shoot someone. Everybody, also the bad guy, has more respect for guns than blades.

And then there's my personal favorite: the butterknife.

If you're crazy enough, or in a desperate enough situation, it can still be used as a weapon. Of course you'd need strength to pin them down and the stomach for - yeah I'm just gonna stop right there. I wandered into this conversation about guns and knives and kinda took it from where it ended...

I'll just....see my way out....

Speaking of.... It was tragic what happened in Orlando.

Would stricter gun laws have prevented it? I don't think it would have stopped this nutcase, when someone really wants to kill a lot of people, they will obtain weapons in any way they can.

Indeed it is tragic what happened in Orlando. I remember seeing that a senator was quoted saying, "What is happening to this country?". Don't even get me started with what's wrong with the US..

And to an extent I think that stricter gun laws could've prevented this, or atleast "softened the blow". Yet, I also agree with the fact that someone who wants to achieve something like this will go to incredible lengths to obtain weapons. Therefore this could've still happened.

Putting all of the politics aside, my heart goes out to those people and their families. I cannot imagine what must be going through the survivors' minds right now. It just breaks my heart

You know if all what has been happening in the past few years tells me something. It tells that despite all the knowledge we have. We humans are very young and too primitive.

Just as we were talking about it, another shooting happens... *sigh*

I have second-degree burns in my mouth... From a small chunk of potato...

I like - not because I'm laughing at you, but because I can totally relate! The hot food is on my plate, I can't wait to eat it, and later I regret it... :/

CT: Got a text from my bank last night to ask if I recognised some transactions and I didn't, so I sent back no. They called me back a minute later (at about 1am) to go through some of my transactions and it definitely looked like someone had been taking money from my account, only about 5 transactions of around £10 each, but still... that sucks. So my bank cancelled my card and have refunded me for the money taken which is cool, now I'm just gonna be cardless for about a week :/

Very satisfied with my bank right now. If they didn't tell me about this, I don't know how long it would have taken me to see this was happening.
