One of my chrysalises hatched last night...was so close to throwing them out because they were taking so long.

Hoping the others will turn up soon

Are you hatching Butterflies? That is what it sounds like, but I don't know how that works. But hopefully they all come out and love the Spring Weather coming around.

Rainy Day here in NY. At least my garden plants are getting some love. Both cats are SOAKED and I love it.

Yeah, I ordered a cup of caterpillars a few weeks ago and as of today, all 5 are butterflies. It's been pretty cool to watch but took longer than it should have done, hence why I thought they were all dead.

It's a mail order type company you can get bugs from - insect lore. I think they are in the US too and you probably get more variety than we do here.

Wasn't sure it would work at all but turns out everything was fine. But we need a sunny day to release them or they'll die and it's been raining for a while since our few days of sun last week.

Ya know, it feels good to have your opinion trusted. A couple days ago my friend sent me 9 songs she's written to listen to and critique since she's trying to put an album together, and then last night another friend sent me one of her college papers after it was finished to get my opinion on. Either they know I like being an opinionated douche, or I really do have skill at being an honest critic XD

Ok, so genuine question and you guys are all smart...plus nobody here is a condescending you know what.

So, I'm reading about how travel might look after restrictions and lockdown have ended - lots of talk about sanitizing and spraying disinfectants and the like.

My question is, will the sudden influx of germ killing measures potentially do more harm than good in the long run? Like, if we kill off everything, where does our immunity come from?

My kids rarely ever get sick - because they're gross. They are the human equivalent of petri dishes and the youngest especially used to lick lampposts and eat bugs. I can count on one hand the number of times he has even caught a cold and still have fingers left over, and he's nearly 9. We don't routinely bleach surfaces (I use lemon or vinegar), we don't have antibacterial soaps (regular for me) and I've never stopped them playing in the dirt or picking flowers outside. That and regular vaccinations are what I think have led to a pretty sturdy immune system over the years.

So would going sanitation crazy have a knock on effect and see more people getting sicker with things they would have previously either not caught at all or shrugged off quickly?

Dumb question, I know, but I'm old and haven't been to school in 20 years. Sue me

@Angel I think that is a valid thought, as in order for the immune system to become stronger you have to actually be exposed to germs. Meanwhile, there is always the chance that whatever bug you're fighting with gain a resistance to whatever you're doing and that would be bad.

CT: I'm glad my new job is a regular 8-5 (or 8-4:30 if I take a short lunch) Monday through Friday job. Here lately I've been so tired by the time the weekend rolls around. Yesterday and today I slept in an extra 2 hours. Don't get me wrong, I love my job but the learning curve is steep and it's wearing me out. I do have great trainers and a great manager though and they all know, even better than I do, how long the learning process is in the company. They all have my back and tell me I'm doing great. It really makes me feel good about my decision to work for the company.

Ok FIRST of all, how dare you. I AM a condescending you know what! And Second of all! I've said this for years. Say what you will, but I'm hella against things like Germ X and what not because it kills 99.9 percent of germs. And...yeah. It does. That's the problem. 90 percent of germs are GOOD germs. So why would kill 90 percent of good germs to kill 10 percent of bad germs...I think you're totally right. This is gonna lead to a fallout of a second wave that ends up being worse.

Thanks for the replies, guys. It just feels to me that in the panic over one virus, people could become more at risk unnecessarily due to over cleaning. Our (primarily) Western obsession with being germ free seems to be leading to all kinds of health problems over time. I'm not saying there aren't other factors in the rise of certain other illnesses or infections, but unless you don't actually HAVE an immune system, surely you don't need to be so anal about germs?

My doctor once said something which never really left me, "Humans are the most adaptable species on the planet. We've made ourselves far more fragile than we were originally intended"

I'm not ignorant of the need to be sanitary, obviously. Grabbing the person next to you and wiping your filthy hands on them after going to the toilet is not what I'm advocating here. But bleaching everything within an inch of its life seems too far the other way for me. The only people for whom it would benefit are those with heavily compromised immune systems...but they aren't likely to be spending lots of time with the great unwashed as it is.

I literally had this conversation with my grandparents yesterday. One of my friend's grandparents santises the handrails on the way up to her house everyday, and also does the same with the letterbox after the postman has put her letters through. This family are fans of sanitising and cleaning everything to the extreme, and they always end up with stomach bugs and colds more than once a year.

I am a little bit of a germaphobe, but it's within reason. If I touch something on a surface that's wet and I'm not sure what it is, I'll need to wash my hands. However, I understand that not everything has to be forensically sanitised because that has the adverse effect and your immune system is weakened.

You can definitely go too far with cleanliness, and I worry too that after this pandemic is done, everyone is going to go too far with it. But I think the wisest thing to do would be to adopt a 'within reason' approach. Like you said above, I'm not implying people should be gross and wiping their germs all over. I just think people need to have a bit of thought about how far they go with things, because ultimately you could go on forever.

I wouldn't be too concerned. Even with extremely over the top cleaning processes, unless you live in a clean room or something, natural germs will be present in your home no matter what you do. Every time you go outside, germs and other microscopic entities attach themselves to your clothes, shoes, hair, etc. Pets come in with all sorts of germs on them. Your floor is an abundant petri dish of germs. Sure, you can clean and sanitize these things, but as soon as you go outside or come in to contact with these critters in the home, you're spreading them and allowing them to invade your body.

Even when you shower yourself - the time you get the most germs on you is when you're wet - as soon as you get out of the shower, all the free floating entities in the air attach themselves to you. Cleaning to a degree will destroy the presence of harmful germs, but you'll never be able to get rid of the majority of harmless ones.

@Angel I personally think so. I know during a breast cancer seminar for high risk women they had an entire segment with us about keeping our microbiome safe. They straight up tell you to be hygienic but that being a germaphobe is dangerous because it creates a false environment for your immune system.

There are viruses around us every day that don't get us sick but instead help strengthen our immune systems. Eliminating these with over cleaning can definitely be harmful to "normal" or otherwise healthy people.

So, I am experiencing a burn blister under the free edge of my fingernail for the 1st time in my life. It is not the worst burn I've experienced but it still sucks. I think there is a tie for worst burns for me (and all in all I've been pretty fortunate considering I have family friends that were at home when their house exploded and needed skin graft surgery, ICU, the whole 9):

I once melted the skin off of the back of my right hand on a heat lamp at work. I didn't report it cause I knew I could handle it and it was my first week on the job, didn't want to seem like I wasn't cut out for it. Anyway, that hurt pretty bad and needing to constantly wash my hands and pull gloves on and off since I was in a kitchen made it so much worse. I have a scar there now.

The second burn doesn't seem as bad but it still hurt. I was cooking pasta and chicken for the family for dinner and I ended up accidentally pressing my pinky against the blazing hot pasta pot. I put a band-aid on so I could finish cooking and you could actually see the blister forming under the band-aid. It was so bad it went the entire length of the middle segment of my pinky and was pretty puffy. At one point husband brushed against my hand and it hurt so bad I started crying and he forced me to take some pain meds. Ended up busting the blister at work a few days later and that sucked too. Lol

Getting back into both Running, and Pokemon Go. This summer is gonna be full of exercise!
I gotta step up my exercise...I'm a boredom snacker and I've never been so bored as I have during the past 7 weeks of lockdown. So I'm eating and eating and eating and have put on 9lbs which sucks because I spent 2 years slowly working off 30lbs with many more to go.

So time to stop nomming and start moving. But I love snacks...

I've never been a huge snack guy. But I eat pizza like three times a week. So I gotta put a stop to that XD. That said, you got this! Working it off will be easy! Go get em.

I have been exploring my new neighborhood town while walking my dog every day. We started off with a 15 minute walk around the little suburb we live in and I have been adding 10 minute increments to it each time we walk. Now, we're finally ready to finish the 2.5 mile circle next time we take the walk. And hopefully, I am getting a bike this Summer too. So it'll be fun to try that out again for a while!

In my recent break from anime, I’ve decided…on one of the coming next couple of days I’m going to watch a classic Japanese film. As a film history nerd I know all about Akira Kurosawa and his contribution to the medium, but I think it’s time I finally set aside 3.5 hours and watch Seven Samurai. I’ll update you guys when I’ve finished. I’m quite excited.

I have never seen a Kurosawa film, but I am intrigued to get your opinion on it. If you reccomend it, I might even give it a try. And I am not even fixing the spelling on recommend in the earlier part of this comment. How many times do I have to spell it to get it right? Also recieve. My hands just do it wrong!

Started AC: Odyssey this week and I have been enjoying it. But it doesn't feel like an AC game at all at the moment.
