Thanks for the input guys. I'll consider FFXV if I see it cheap, even though the main cast doesn't appeal much to me, on a surface level (they all look the same, with matching colors. They look boring af, but we'll see...).
As for FF7R, I'm really loving it and I don't mind certain points others had made. Example...the linearity. Anyone who played the original knows the game is pretty much linear up until the point you leave Midgar and enter in the world map properly, which is more or less the timeframe of this 1st chapter of FF7R, so...I don't mind.
I also don't mind they altering the story a bit. If one can remember my posts about RE2R or RE3R, one can see I'm not a purist. I don't mind some changes (if I want the exact same experience as the original, I'll play the original. It's not like all my discs broke when I installed the remakes) as long the core story remains the same. In FF7's case, a race to save a dying world from something worse than we thought in the beginning (from Shinra to Sephiroth). I like the way they're expanding on some sections and I'll hold out to see my opinions on the twist everyone is talking about on the final chapter, but I don't think it will ruin the experience for me.
I only have two grips with this game. One is minor, which is the texture thing. It's weird and really stand out. It's also kinda random on what is affected by it. But for me, this is a minor thing.
The second one is the way Square will handle this. I mean, we can assume the FF7R saga will have 3 games? if it's so...they'll be released for consoles of this generation (or being released in both generations)? Or they'll will start this "saga" in the PS4 and finish it on the PS5? Because I don't see myself buying a PS5 until two or three years after its lauching (that's what I always do, since by this time, the console already has most of its software and hardware problems solved and you already have a nice selection of games to begin with). I understand moving on generations on games that has no actual connection, but FF7 is supposed to be 1 story, divided into three games. At any rate, I suppose it'll depends on the development cycle of the games. I hope I can still play at least part 2 on my PS4 still.
In ff xv the character are actually all very different and well characterized, you'll find out yourself if you will play it... If you ever will, buy the royal edition, it's the definitive edition of the game whit every dlc except the ardyn one, the disc version new should cost less than 30 dollar
As for the remake It's very likely they will continue it on ps5, since the next chapter will probably released in 2022 or later, and other chapter will probably release after 2024, and we can't really know how many other game there will be, especially after that ending lol
I don't mind the linearity either since the original was like this too, but when the remake was announced and the first trailer was showed, I was expecting an open world Midgard, especially after the huge open world map in ff xv and after square say this first part was huge like as single ff game... This linearity was a step back in my opinion... if the game was so linear, than they could have actually made into the story farther passing the Midgard section, maybe reaching half the game, they could have divided the game into two part , but we know how square works, money call money, dividing the game in more chapter was more profitable, in the end this is just a 30 hour prologue, we're there is actually little to do after you finish the game, i already did all i can in my first play trought, i made all secondary mission and extra things... I'm not disappointed by this because i liked the game but it's a total step back from ff xv where i have more that 200 hours of game and i stil have to make everything possible
The texture were mostly pretty bad, not even digital foundry know exactly why the texture were so bad, probably because there are so many different texture that there was not enough Time to make them all at higher resolution.... Another things that bugs me are some 2d depths that are in low resolution... It's funny because ff xv had a map 50 time the size of this game, but the game look bettet... Maybe is due to the fact they used the unreal engine 4 for ff 7 remake, who knows
For the story, i think you should finish the gamer first... i don't mind story changing either if they are on the level of re 2 and 3 remake, or like this ff 7 remake up until the last chapter, i mean it's a huge change they made in the Last chapter and ending of this game XD really really huge, personally is something I don't like, that completely ruin the game and ff 7 mythology
