What's everybody playing?

Code Vein

So far I like what I'm playing, the character building features are reasonably well implemented, and combat is pretty 'Dark Souls' but not as chaotic, more straightforward.

I hope it has enough juice to keep me playing to the end because there's a good start here for sure.

Started up my second play through of The Last of Us Part II after over a year. I’m curious to see if my feelings for this game will change at all- I’m even more excited to see what my man thinks of the sequel.

We already got past one of the most controversial bits in the game- Joel’s death. Both of us agree that the way it was done felt wrong but it was something always anticipated for Joel.

For me it’s not even the fact that it was a cruel and gruesome death. It’s just the pacing of the entire game that has felt off to me and it still feels that way so far.

Despite the controversial story, I’m really excited to play through certain locations/bits of the game as they did perfect the gameplay and unique locations. Still a shame that they never released a factions mode for online.

I really wish they'd port that to PC so I could finally try it out but they probably won't because the trend is going towards more exclusivity than less. I have not been a Sony person since PS1 (I went straight to Gamecube after PS1 due to REmake, Zero, and RE4) and I can't see myself changing anytime soon. Too bad, damn shame, oh well.

Am currently playing Hitman 3, just unlocked every 'Classics' challenge so now I have all the savvy equipment like the 'Black Leather Briefcase', 'Classic All Black Suit", "Classic Coins", and the "ICA Woodsman Rifle Covert". I feel like a lethal weapon now, especially when equipped with the Krugermeier .22 ultra quiet pistol.

The trend is actually going towards exclusion of specific brands than true exclusivity. PC seems to be a huge part of Xbox's strategy and Playstation seems to be going that way too, though not as hard. Uncharted 4 and Lost Legacy have already been announced to be going to PC and I think God of War as well. Before that, Horizon: Zero Dawn and Death Stranding had come to PC too I think.

Halo infinite beta. It's a real shock to the system. Not like the old days at all. Other than that, divinity original sin 2, back 4 blood and dark souls 1. A lot of co op stuff since I've burned out on RE for a bit

Daymare 1998

Great Indie survival horror game, got it 75% off on Steam (like most things, I would not advise paying the full 30 USD retail for this).
What it lacks in variety it makes up for in gameplay nostalgia and characters. Playing on the hardest difficulty and it truly reminds me of those games back in the 90's.

It's not perfect though, the demo part of the game is actually the best part, and it has some glaring flaws with level design and pacing, but all-in-all it's virtues outweigh its faults. The story, characters, and atmosphere really save this game from being just mediocre Indie stuff. Definitely try it out on a sale.

So I started up Metroid: Other M for the first time before the release of Metroid Dread and I haven't really stopped playing Metroid since...

I went from Other M to Fusion which forced me to dust off both my Wii and Wii U, and after 19 years of anticipation, I finally got to play Metroid 5 and yes, Dread is real. We get to say that now. Then I revisited Zero Mission on the Wii U and dusted off the 3DS for another round of Samus Returns which I'm nearly done with now.

As much as I would have loved for Nintendo to re-release the entire series on the Switch, I have to admit, I actually really enjoyed going back through a lot of my old consoles just to play through this series. I know it's not convenient for everyone and re-releasing the games on modern hardware would do wonders for the series, but as someone fortunate enough to have had and still have access to all the necessary hardware, it's been really cool having a reason to go back and use them.

Metroidmania aside, I finally started Little Nightmares II and I'm currently on Chapter 4. The first one was such an underrated gem and I'm extremely happy that it managed to get a sequel but also disappointed that there are currently no plans to make another anytime soon.

Regardless, Little Nightmares II perfectly builds on the excellent foundation of the first game with its refined mechanics and the addition of melee weapons and enemies. I also found it extremely clever how they implemented Six as sort of a guide but also as a way to cut down on some of the monotony as she helps you reach high places quicker and can even help you put items where they belong.

But what ultimately drew me towards Little Nightmares originally was its disgusting and nightmarish depictions of everyday people through the lens of children as main antagonists and they've continued to deliver with characters like the teacher and doctor. The hospital level is by far the standout for me as you're forced to rely on a flashlight to see through all the darkness and the patients who move in the dark and freeze in the light are just straight up f*cking amazing.

I seriously wish these games could get more attention. While they're certainly not survival horror games by any stretch, I think any horror fan should definitely consider checking them out. The visuals are just absolutely incredible and remind me of the first time I saw Resident Evil REmake because of how detailed and atmospheric it looked with its meticulously crafted environments that are viewed from very specific angles, giving off an otherworldly look and Little Nightmares is quite similar in this regard too as you're given a window view into its beautifully dark and twisted world.

Neverwinter Nights (2001)

A nice (albeit old) DnD nerd game by Bioware where you get to build a specialized character with certain skills and feats and go on dungeon romps to complete quests and level up. It is, as I said, quite nerdy but I'm having some fun with it, playing as a rogue because I'm not hot blooded enough to play as a fighter or barbarian and I'm not smart enough to play as a wizard or sorcerer so I guess a stealthy character who specializes in sneak attacks, lockpicking, trap setting, and deadly crossbow shots suits me best.

Been playing a bit of Mario Kart 8 Deluxe for the Switch. It brings back a lot of memories. Now I wanna play the Animal Crossing game just because of how cute Isabelle is lol.
Did you just get a Switch? Cuz there's so much you gotta play on there. Though, Animal Crossing is quite a guilty pleasure of mine. Been on and off with it since it came out but have spent more time than I'd like to admit with it. Mainly something I do with my sister as we often help eachother get items and do exploits.

No, it’s my boyfriend’s Switch. But I am very tempted to get my own now. Was looking at the Animal Crossing edition especially for its price but might hold off a bit longer.

I was watching the trailers for the game and it does look cute but I can also see where you can get sucked in lol. Loved Mario Kart though. I wish they would remake Yoshi’s Story, I’m surprised that hasn’t happened yet!

You should definitely get one. Breath of the Wild and Mario Odyssey are definitely essentials. But if you're looking for "cute" games, you should look into Link's Awakening, Luigi's Mansion 3, and Captain Toad. There's even a brand new 3D Kirby game coming in a few months and like SpaceOwl said, there's also Yoshi's Crafted World.

Since my personal laptop recently took a dump on me I’ll probably have to invest in one of those first but it’s good to hear that Yoshi’s Crafted World is in line with Yoshi’s Story. I might still buy a couple games for myself to play on his Switch. I think he has all the Zelda games covered too but I was actually eyeing Luigi’s Mansion to play too.

Finally got around to play Alan Wake remastered. Finished the main game and now i'm playing through the two extra chapters. I've never played the original one, back in 2010, so everything was a new experience for me (with the exceptions of the tidbits I've seen in the AEW expansion of Control) and it was pretty, pretty good...with a few considerations.

Graphically, the remaster is very pretty, especially the city and the outdoor areas. The character's faces are a bit doll-like (especially Alice), but apart from design new models (which they wouldn't do) I suppose they did the best they could. You can see it's an "old" game, but the remaster really breathed some life into it. The story and narrative are amazing and by far the best part of the game. The story and its hooks were very interesting and I'll be sure to play Alan Wake 2 when I jump to the next console generation (it's due to 2023, so I suppose we'll get more stuff being shown this year.)

The gameplay though...it's a bit dated. Aiming is semi-automatic, even with the game being in 3rd person and the flashlight plays a similar role as the RE4's laser sight, but it's kind of too far away and not very precise (which is way I think the devs made the aim semi-automatic). Dodge is also weirdly timed, and you have a very awkward jump button. You can really feel the gameplay's age, especially in the more hectic combat scenes, but I don't think it detrates from the story and it's tolerable.

All in all, it was a nice experience, very much worth playing, especially for its cinematic approach in a supernatural and mystery like themes. I'm glad they decided to remaster this one, giving more people the chance to be introduced on the series, especially with the second one coming. Also, it's worth noting that the AWE expansion for Control might spoil some of the plot's points (However, I think I'll replay that section on Control. It might be a more complete experience, now that I know what happened fully).

This seems like a cool game, but I'm going to have to get an Xbox Series X/S or PlayStation 5

Also, this one is another I want to play. I played the first one. I wouldn't mind playing the second:
