What Did You Learn This Week?

Exactly. Even though I'm not a telemarketer I've been dealing with those people my whole life. I realize just how irritating it can be to have someone invade your privacy with an agenda. Some people will mind less if they find out you're a journalist and only want to ask them about very touchy or personal things, which is somewhat baffling. There's always the chance that they will say "F*** YOU" and slam the door in your face, but when you realize that that's the worse that could happen, it's much easier to do. By and large I think people like the idea that they're important enough to get some spotlight and like the thought that they'll be mentioned in a publication. :p

Well i wouldn't be a telemarketer if my life depended on it, or anything associated with marketing/selling. Lol that is funny but not surprising to me.. yeah i guess people want to be accepted and share there ideas in the world, or are just desperate to talk to someone new lol.Yeah you are not gonna die at least, guess thats the best way to approach life.

That there's apparently a theory in feminist studies pertaining to women in construction called the B(tch-Dyke-Whore cycle. If you're a woman in construction your perceived as being either a b!tch who just has something to prove or who wants to start an unfair harassment lawsuit against some poor unsuspecting construction worker, a dyke and thus you don't fit into pre-established gender roles and are non-threatening to masculinity, or a whore, in that the only reason you are working in construction is to either find a husband or get laid.

Okay.

List is bull****.There is nothing wrong with women in construction unless they are manlier then me.You know..tattoos, muscles, big voice, eats her meat raw.Seen a few of these wonder babes in my time....

I learned how to knock on a stranger's door. MUCH harder to do than you might think. Being a journalism student, I need to write articles for class which simply can not be made up or based on research alone. Thankfully, people really tend to open up to you once you tell them you're writing an article....then shut you out again when they find out it's an article that'll be turned into a professor rather than printed.
I'm the opposite, I would let you in. I would shut you out if you told me you would print the story 'coz I don't like publicity.

Okay.
Some b-tches are like that, but they would be b-tches also if they had another profession.

Gender stereotypes... they are so stupid! What's the issue with a female construction worker? Or a jet fighter pilot? Or a mechanic? And what's the issue with a male kindergarten worker? Or midwife? ("Midfather"?)

This is what I learned this week:
Santa’s true origins stem from the traditions of the pee-drinking reindeer herders of Northern Europe. Reindeers are fond of eating fly agaric mushrooms (Amanita muscaria), the red-and-white toadstools often associated with Christmas, because they contain compounds that are hallucinogenic and euphoric. Reindeer digestive systems are able to metabolize the more poisonous components of the toadstool, leaving urine with the psychoactive elements of the mushroom intact.

The Sami people of Northern Europe would regularly feed fly agaric to reindeers and collect their urine to get a high similar to LSD. Under the hallucinogenic effects of reindeer ****, the Sami thought their reindeer were flying through space, looking down on the world. When the first missionaries reached Lapland, they heard stories of flying reindeer and integrated them in the existing Christmas folklore of Western cultures.

I learned that the word 'salary' comes from the Latin word for 'salt' and that Roman soldiers were sometimes paid in salt rather than coin. I learned a whole bunch about salt, actually. What is wrong with me??

This week, I have learnt that extreme patience is just about the best thing to have in life. The rewards that come with it are awesome.

I learned that the people I work for apparently want to get rid of me for some reason. Good luck finding a good reason to get rid of me......assholes.
Take it as a compliment.

They want rid of you in the same way a farmer wants rid of a fox... coz the fox knows where dozzy farmer joe keeps the keys to the hen house.

take it from a fellow fox, it's a compliment.. it's coz, in the words of Ada, you got smarts, and you know how to use em.

people are scared by brilliance...mystery...magic...

I learned that we have 6 million CEO's in the united states and of that 6 million about 1.5M of them are actually interested in expanding their business with workers, the rest of them are trying to get rid of employees and raise profits simultaneously. And that we sit on innovation because of the study of consumer vs. sales. Sad.

Yes it's sad, but the brutal fact is businesses are not primarily for their customers. Businesses are started because someone with money wants more profit than the interest rate in banks can give them. A company's primary objective is to pay as much as possible back to its owners. So we need laws and regulations to keep things in balance, and maybe the laws aren't good enough.

Oh i totally agree with you about the money thing, but i dont think we need more laws or regulations....we need a revolution. And a complete overhaul of our collective mind that money drives an economy. I believe it has its place but i think the 'people' aspect of things have taken a back seat when we should be the ones driving, not profit. I agree with Hoadz on this subject

I learnt that snowboarding for me = bad. Torn ACL In educational news, I learnt that the Prime Minister of the UK can indeed be compared to the US President, in terms of the style of their premiership. Especially when analysing Tony Blair and Margaret Thatcher, who some may argue was more akin to a dictator. Love politics.

I learned that I am able to find more than 30 things per day to be thankful for without having to think about it - if I actually put some thought in, I reckon there'd be more than I could count :)
I appreciate this post very much. It's a good reminder. :)

I learned the German quiz I lost sleep over wasn't even today.
:D !! Do you feel crazy now? Welcome to the club. :p
