Started Locke and Key the other night. I never heard of what I assume is a pretty big YA book series. It's pretty good. I am a little surprised by the amount of adult language and almost nudity in it when I assume it was aimed at a YA audience, but I guess there is nothing over the top yet. I mean, I am definitely in to it!

Only 2 episodes in, but I have pretty high hopes for the series.

I just saw The Invisible Man, it was great. Great pacing and suspense with a very well-told story, and Elisabeth Moss was once again great. Universal FINALLY has a classic monster film in the modern era that's actually quite enjoyable. Dracula Untold, The Wolfman, The Mummy (2017), I Frankenstein, all mediocre-to-bad movies. Blumhouse is finally back on track as well after two straight duds in Black Christmas and Fantasy Island.

I also watched Event Horizon the other day, easily one of Paul WS Anderson's better movies (which I know isn't saying much, but still). Those demonic hallucination/orgy scenes are still f*cked up to this day.

Just watched both parts of The Emigrants from 1971 and 1972, two classic Swedish films about a family of unfortunate peasants in Sweden whom decides to emigrate to the United Stats in the year 1850. They deal with lots of hardship that comes with it, but also includes lots of warm genuine moments. There are also some interesting historical aspects featured such as the Sioux uprising of 1862. It's quite graphic in some parts so if you're sensitive you shouldn't watch them, although I guess you wouldn't be hanging on a Resident Evil forum if you were sensitive.

I had such a good time watching them though, the cinematography and soundtrack are both so beautiful.

About to go and see Emma at the cinema with a friend

My fiance just got me turned on to yet ANOTHER BBC show, This Country. Have been enjoying it thus far. I think there is a great sense of dialogue among the characters. In fact, it's all dialogue. Hardly anything happens at all, but that's a great way to continue a mockumentary.

This has been recommended to me by my friends too - would you recommend it? I don't tend to watch too much TV these days but my friends all seem to be talking about this.

I am the worst person to take advice from since I basically like every movie and TV show I watch. But sure, I would recommend it. I do not think it is a travesty to miss it, but it is pretty genuine. The comedy is rooted in very real conversations and people. It's got a lot of charm to it. But then again, I am charmed every time I hear a British accent.

Fair enough. I may give it a chance sometime, as so many people are talking about it.

Also, there are quite a few different British accents - for a small country, we certainly do have a lot of them! You might not find all of them so charming.

Yeah - on a side now - why are there are many accents? How could it be that every time you drive another 50 km, people suddenly talk differently? Truly amazing.

And for the record, I do love all accents from every part of the UK. One of my weaknesses. But I think that is a very American sentiment anyway. haha

Literally no idea. There are so many though and considering we're about the size of an American state, it's quite remarkable.

That's surprising, there's usually at least one that people hate!

Duuuuude. How did I not know how awesome Amazon Prime’s anime selection was!? Prime is included with my phone plan, but I almost never use it. On a whim I browsed their anime section today, and I added SO much to my list. And we’re talking awesome old school 80’s movies and shows at that. Unlike the joke that is Netflix, which only has SUPER modern stuff, that I really don’t have much interest in (Save for a Few Titles. I love you Hi Score Girl. You’re perfect. Hurry up with Season 2), this is what I needed! As a bonus, I also found the live action City Hunter movie starring Jackie Chan from 1993, and dear god I can’t wait to watch that.

Kennedy - What is it you found of Prime that you really wanted to see? I usually use it for watching BBC shows or watching newish movies that I am willing to pay that ridiculous rental fee for. haha. But I'd love to hear what I could be missing.

I pay for Netflix, HULU, and Amazon Prime at the moment because I have shows attached to all three. Mostly, when nothing else is on - I just watch the US version of The Office over and over. The Mrs. and I just started our 16th(ish) run through. I still laugh every time.

Well, IDK what kinds of anime you're really into, but they have the original part 1 of Lupin the III, which came out in 72, Goku Midnight Eye, a late 80's cyberpunk/sci-fi 2 part OVA, Golgo 13: The Professional, which is an early 80's anime movie about a Mafia hitman. Stuff like that. Lots of Sci-Fi. Lots of hand drawn animation. Lots of Ridiculous stuff I've never even heard of where the names along caught my attention, like Giant Gorg and Robot Carnival. It's fantastic.

So, last night I watched Mewtwo Strikes Back: Evolution and…I was very unimpressed. The voice acting? A ok. Mewtwo’s characterization. Well done. The 3D animation? I loved it. But…The stuff that MAKES the movie. The stuff that pulls at the heartstrings…All fail by comparison. When the clone Pikachu is slapping Ash’s Pikachu, who’s refusing to fight, the Slap sound effect is SO weak compared to the original. There’s no impact there. When Mewtwo and Mew’s blast combine to hit Ash, and he turns to stone, he slowly turns. In the original it was instantaneous. There was shock factor in the ABRUPT demise of our Hero. Sometimes the slow burn can work, of course. But in this instance…it really didn’t. Also, not using the song “Brother My Brother” by Blessed Union of Souls during the fight scene took a lot of the emotion out of it. The slow song about war and fighting against your own race over trivial matters. There was weight to that scene that the music alone gives. Not having that here…It’s just an unnecessary change that again, takes out a lot of the emotion. So despite how good this movie looks visually, it fails to hit you where it counts. I’m gonna have to give it a 4/10. Also they took out the Vikings and Minnesota joke. What the hell. Not ok.

Currently watching Fullmetal Alchemist. Again. Because it deserves your attention.
Only meant to watch one or two episodes but it's like trying to eat one or two potato chips.

Aww yeah! Now THIS is exactly what I was hoping it would be. No deep plot. No philosophy. No character development. Just hyper-masculine, too cool for school, tough guy cop who doesn’t play by the rules. This is a perfect representation of the Japanimation Era I remember first getting into anime with. And Steve Blum’s deep voice and suave line delivery makes it all the better. If you want the sleek hand drawn animation and mindless 80’s anime sci-fi cop action, then I definitely recommend Goku Midnight Eye. Madhouse, you’ve done it again. It’s sequel time baby.
