Finally watching Kingsman: the Golden Circle, another movie I waited for the Redbox for due to the lukewarm reception.

Dat opening sequence, man, holy sh!t. I immediately got shades of the church scene from the original Kingsman.

Though I'm curious: to anyone who's seen the movie, how does it stack up compared to the first? I loved the original, heard some not-so-flattering things about the sequel which is why I waited for it to come out on Redbox.

As much as I like the first, I think I prefer the second.

Watched Star Wars The Force Awakens and enjoyed it more the second time around... probably because I wasn’t on a crappy date this time. I’m a bit obsessed with Kylo Ren. Love how conflicted his character is and well... he’s pretty hot wielding that saber around.

Also saw The Last Jedi a couple nights ago and thought it was really good. There were a couple things about it that I didn’t care for but it is a solid movie with pretty good story progression. I’ll be seeing it again in theaters but I thought the casino scenes felt out of place and also didn’t care for Rose as she was pretty annoying.

The Last Jedi ruined The Force Awakens for me. I wasn't too bothered by the whole rehash of A New Hope thing, I understood why they did that but it was still unique enough to stand on its own. But by far, what made it so interesting were all the questions the film leaves you with by the end of it and then The Last Jedi happens and it completely kills whatever momentum this trilogy had going.

Yeah there were some things that I thought they did really well with and then there were other things... Not sure how I feel about how anyone can be a jedi if they put their mind to it. The fact that Rey is likely not related to the Skywalkers is a surprising twist though. Also the fact that they killed Snoke off so soon and left us with only Kylo Ren being Rey’s greatest foe is crappy. I was hoping for him to change, which I guess he still can but at this point I think it’s obvious they’re gonna kill him off by the third movie in the final fight.

But hey... we might see that Ren and Rey ship sail after all! :p even in the first movie I got a strong Beauty and the Beast vibe between those two.

I watched Ghost In The Shell 2.0 out of curiosity after picking up the Blu-ray for the original cut in HD (I heard bad things about the 5.1 mix on the 25th Anniversary Blu-ray with weak or missing SFX).

An experiment I'm not sure anyone asked for, GITS 2.0...
- Remixes the sound into 6.1 DTS
- Places a warm, brownish gold colour filter over the image
- Blurs the image; and
- Adds weird immersion-breaking sequences of CGI replacing some already impressive 2D animation

As far as I can tell, it's basically just a Special Edition, a la Star Wars. Nothing major is altered in the plot, it just makes lots of changes that aren't always sensible.

Colour timing comparison:

CGI comparison:

And by far, the scene worse affected by the CG "enhancements":

Great movie, not the best addition. Do what I do and watch the original version in the Bonus Features section.

This. Was. Solid. ****ing. Gold!

Such a thrilling yet disturbing piece of film making. I don't think it's really possible to talk about this without spoiling what many critics are hailing "the best space opera since Battle Star Galactica". Not that I know what that I means since I don't watch BSG but damn! This was a ****ing thrill ride that leaves you on the edge of your seat the whole time.

EXIT ****ING GAME!

Saw The Last Jedi again and loved it even more... all the details that I got to catch the second time around and I’m obsessed with the Reylo theory so much- even more than the Wesker/Chris ship.... Yes I said it. It’s my favorite thing about the new movie and the best scenes in TLJ were with those two. They better follow through with it in the next movie because he loves her damn it. Now I gotta wait another 2+ years for them to follow up on their story. D:

I saw The Last Jedi a few days ago, and I really loved it as well. Let me just preface this by saying, yes, I definitely understand people's frustrations with some of the plot choices in this movie, without delving into spoilers. However, I still wound up really enjoying it, the Luke scene at the end was f*cking epic. Plus the action was spectacularly well-done, for once, I had a constant sense of danger and not knowing if the characters involved were going to make it out okay. The unpredictability added another layer of fun to a well-made film with splendid story progression.

As for what I didn't like, well, there really isn't anything I can pick apart that hasn't already been covered in spoilers on here. Where they go from here in IX is literally anyone's guess, and we'll have to wait 2 friggin' years to finally see it unfold, err.

Adam Driver is one amazing actor. He brings something to Kylo that I don’t think any other actor could. He doesn’t even have to say anything as it’s all in his expressions and body language. His character is truly the best one of the new trilogy and personally one of my favorites in general just because of his personal struggles. It’s been a long time since I’ve wanted to truly pick the brain of a “villainous” character (the last one I recall being the Joker in the Dark Knight). I know some fans think it’s underwhelming that they made him so conflicted as it could limit the outcome for his character, but they’re working with very talented actors and directors that I think they can make most outcomes seem refreshing and unique and entertaining for the films direction regardless of where they take this character. They did a good job with featuring signs of the Reylo theory in this film- I've heard plenty of people that were against the pairing give praise to the TLJ for featuring it in a tactful way.

Some of my interpretations and thoughts:

Something that I do want to comment on is how I don’t see his character as a villain. He’s maybe angry at the world and struggling with emotions and can you really blame him for his personal confusions and anger?
Luke’s moment of weakness was an altering one as he contemplated killing Ren- someone who very likely saw Luke as a legend and was let down completely by Luke attempting to sneak and take his life. His retaliation against Luke is somewhat understandable, though perhaps Snoke whispering things in his ear really turned up his anger towards Luke. I'm sure, prior to TFA, Snoke was telling Kylo everything he wanted to hear until he put Kylo to the task of murdering his loved ones to complete his training and decent to the dark side (which we all know was done with great reluctance as he told his own father to help him in that situation and doesn't fire upon Leia).
By the end of TLJ, Kylo is ready to part ways with both Luke and Snoke- both whom let him down is great ways. One theme that TLJ mentioned is how imperfect the Jedi truly are but they’re still glorified and thought of as legends. Luke was well aware of this, especially after failing Ben Solo and being the final push Ben needed into the dark side. Because of this- Ren and Luke weren’t wanting completely different things as they both wanted to re-write the ways of the Force. The difference between the two is the anger that Kylo holds towards Luke, while Luke feels responsible/guilt. This movie also shows that, when it comes to the light side and dark side, it isn't so black and white- there are gray areas.

After Kylo's fit against Luke’s projection, we are shown a defeated Kylo as he picks up his dad’s gold dice. When the dice disappear in his hand, he grips his hand almost as though he’s trying to hold onto the memory. To me this scene didn't depict an angry, evil and vengeful person, but rather someone who feels extreme sadness and loneliness. Even when he and Rey were staring back at one another's projections, his expression is pure sadness. To end this scene they show him hanging his head- which makes me believe that, in this moment, the audience wasn't looking at Kylo but rather Ben Solo. With that ending, it's not a question of if he turns but rather when he will turn in the 3rd movie. I speculate there will be some type of mutiny against Kylo from General Hux and his men at some point- maybe that's when Ren will turn?

Something else I want to mention is how this movie proves that the Jedi can't see the future but rather they see glimses of what will happen. Rey says she sees that Ren will turn while Ren claims he sees Rey will convert to the dark side. . So far though Snoke, Luke, Rey and Ren's visions haven't been wrong in some regards so it makes me wonder to what extent will Rey go to the dark side?

EDITED because of the disgusting amount of typos. Kylo suddenly became Kylie in my post, etc. Damn trying to write out thoughtful posts with my phone!

I just watched American Made, it was fun from start to finish. For all this talk of Tom Cruise being hit-or-miss lately with his movie roles (and those claims aren't unwarranted, case in point: The Mummy reboot), he damn sure delivers in this film. He's so full of energy in every scene that the film actually misses a beat when he's not on screen, dare I say it. The cinematography is so well-done that it almost feels like it was filmed in the 1980s where the film takes place (it's based on the Medellin cartel). The documentary-styled storytelling adds another cool element to an already entertaining film.

I highly recommend picking it up on Redbox (it just came out a couple of days ago), I'm actually kicking myself right now knowing I missed out on a great movie when it was in theaters.

I watched the director's cut of Terminator 2 the other day. Easily one of my most favourite films ever. It's not often that a sequel is better than the original but T2 is like x100 better :D All of those older action films were so good.

And that soundtrack

There is a music track in this movie that i´ve been looking for since for ever. It plays in a scene showing LA at rush hour with all the traffic. It doesn´t seem to be in the OST, it´s only in the movie  I want that track to use it as a sample for mixing.

Maybe you can isolate the music from the soundtrack if you use the 7.1 Mix in a program like Audacity or Sony Vegas.

Apologies for not being on the forums much over the last few months, kinda been all over the place lately. I have managed to watch a few films over that time though, so, in no particular order:
  • Loved Thor Ragnarock, easily not just the funniest Thor movie, but also the funniest Marvel movie (which is no mean feat considering how funny GotG was).
  • Watched Justice League, I enjoyed parts of it (mainly the fight scenes and Flash), but overall, just as crappy as we were all expecting it to be
and OH, DEAR GOD, WHAT THE F*** HAPPENED TO HENRY CAVILLS LIP, THAT S*** IS THE STUFF OF NIGHTMARES!!
  • Saw The Last Jedi, enjoyed it, it even managed to hit me in the feels a couple of times, but it did feel a little too long, and definitely dragged a bit, mostly during the casino scenes.
As for this year, there's only two films that are gonna be occupying my schedule so far: Black Panther and Infinity War. Anybody else looking forward to them?
