And as much as KennedyKiller and I disagree - past, present and, no doubt, future - I agree with this. What's with everyone pulling the racist card on RE5? There are many other reasons to dislike this game and this one excuse is just cheap. No one cared when Marvin died in Resident Evil 2 and he was black, no one cared when all the zombies were white; hell no one even cares that each and every Cerberus to be in a RE game just so happens to be a doberman and not a chihuahua or a corgi so what's the big deal now? What makes RE5's African zombies different than a decade worth of white zombies? What makes hating Sheva any different than hating Steve or people hating Carlos?

Honestly, when you're playing a video game for enjoyment and entertainment and all you can do the entire time is look for something racist - because let's face it, you're reaching - you're doing it wrong.
Thanks for the help Flora! And as much as we disagree, it's all in good, respectable, debatable fun ;)

P.S. The fact that it's fun isn't debatable, it's that what we are talking about is debatable, and that's what is fun...

Social Studies Fact: There are some parts of Africa with heavy British accents because that's who conquered them and taught them english for trading and such...It's still like that today actually...A lot like how in the sixteen hundreds the British did that to Japan in the Feudal Japan era, for trading...It's quite common and there is no error in that whatsoever...
Just saw this.

I know this and, while it is true, I think Josh's voice actor did a better job of balancing this than Sheva's. (However part of it could just be that her constant request for ammo and chatter like she knew what was going on was annoying as all get out.) Honestly, I think Josh would have been better suited as Chris' partner than Sheva.

I completely agree...Both, about Josh being Chris' partner AND his voice actor...She wasn't the best...I was just saying, and apparently you knew...British accents were FAR from unheard of in Africa...

I don't dislike Sheva. She's certainly not anywhere near my top favourite character list, but she didn't bother me as much as she seemed to bother others. I absolutely agree though that her role was a bit awkward and out of placein Resident Evil 5... after Chris found Jill, it might have made for a stronger story for those two to continue together to defeat Wesker, while Sheva paired with Josh for Desperate Escape. For me, it was after that moment where she wore out of her welcome a bit because I'd like to have seen Chris and Jill together for the 'finale', but apart from that I don't care.

That said... eh, I don't think we 'need' Sheva for RE 6. I don't think that she brought that much to the storyline, or at least nothing that any other original character couldn't. Especially if it occurs before RE 5 as people are saying it does... that'd be weird.

And there's my insignificant pearl of wisdom/nonsense. Either one.

In case it wasn't clear I didn't say people who hate Sheva are racist, only that some of the hate was because they view her as a cheap out to quell cries of racism.

I will say that her accent is a little offputing. She did learn english after she came to the states, but even if she learned the language from a British person her accent should have been that pronounced.

To be fair none of the characters in RE1 or RE2 (with the exception of Claire and Ada.) really had a lot of depth or character development in their first outing. It took place over a couple of games. (I realize that in RE1's case that may be due to the campy voice acting. Kind of odd how it seemed so awesome the first go round when I was 11.) Sheva has only been in one game so far, and even though they could have given her more character development I find no fault in her background. I genuinely look foward to her character developing further in future titles.

No need to worry, I believe you made your point quite clear. :)

Hating her would jus be racism.
This was what everyone was referring to.

Thats utterly ridiculous.

So your saying the only reason we dislike her is because we are racist?

Its obvious you have not been reading what people have been saying on this topic.

The people who disliked Sheva dislike her because she brought nothing new to the story. Because she was just tossed in randomly at the last minute with no explaination from Cacpom as to why. She replaced a beloved Resident Evil character (Jill) as Chris's partner and even got to have a hand in killing Wesker which alot of fans did not think she had a right to do.

THAT is the reason why we dislike her.

Don't go around throwing out ridiculous accusations like that.

Racist?

pfft!

You hate her cuz she bought nothing to the story? Do you hate excella, josh, irving who did not add much to the existing ridiculously overratted umbrella canon which was developed in poor technology? Wat is your point anyway? You did not complain when rebecca, barry or any new character was introduced in the past and guess wat?they were jus adding to umbrella's canon cuz technology could not support fiction beyond stupid umbrella - thats why.Let me make this clear, umbrella is nothing compared to projects such as las plagas and uroboros. Cuz character development is much more detailed and explained than past games. Jus because they don't tie with umbrella, does not make them anyway less important or can deprive the characters to be used again in future games. You are jus being narrow minded in not supporting a good character who has less fictional background. You know wat? chris, leon and any other RE character did not have much fictional background when they were introduced. It is ridiculous to judge characters on fictional aspects than judge them by their characteristics. Sheva is a strong character who helped chris in his personal quest for jill. Though chris wanted sheva to back out of his mission, she sticked with chris.

To all who claim sheva as last minute add-on, Would have partner association of chris and jill come up if it was not chris teaming up with other members. Would RE 5 have been interesting without chris teaming up with jill? Cuz if chris had not teamed with sheva, jill's partnership with chris would not have come up. In fact, jill trusts sheva to help chris on his mission in the end. Also, multiplayer earned much appreciation in modes like mercenaries. Multi-player concept would not have come up if it was not for character like sheva. So let me get this straight? You would not mind having jill as partner than sheva? Actually chris did team with jill in apprehending wesker - but they failed and chris suffered the casualty of jill. Would you twist that background to get jill to play along with chris to take out uroboros?

I also pointed out that comparing sheva to jill is pointless. Let me make this clear, chris and jill failed in their mission to apprehend wesker. But sheva and chris finished the mission. Which proves sheva is a better partner to chris than jill. If you can't comprehend this simple fact and you still want jill nevertheless and dislike sheva for the heck of it -- You are racist -- period.
No need to worry, I believe you made your point quite clear. :)

I don't have to explain anymore than i have before but hating her jus for the heck of it would mean its racism. I also pointed out that comparing jill with sheva was pointless. You don't have much to say about that do you? cuz you can't defend your argument but to mislead arguments as if i claimed everyone to be racist. Did you even read my entire post?*facepalm*

LOL at your post.

Getting all hurt and offended over a video game character.

Its not a big deal really.

I dislike her and you like her.

How about YOU get over it and move on instead of trying to turn this into a big argument.

You were arguing as if jill was a better character than sheva? Its not about getting over likes and dislikes but to defend your claim as why sheva is less interesting than jill.Stop hitting on members by LOL ing for no reason. You are dumber in claiming jill than sheva jus for the heck of it.

Can't we keep this civil and mature without resorting to sophmoric name-calling?
Just because there are people on here that have opinions I don't like or agree with does that mean I can call them "booger-breathed, poopy-faces?" Sure I can, but the only purpose that serves is to make me look like an ass.
"OMG you are so dumb because I don't like your opinion."

"You don't like Sheva, you're a racist!"

WTH? Why pull out the racism card? Just because there are asians, hispanics, and black people that I don't like does that make me a racist? Does the fact that there are white people I don't like make me a self-hating white man?

Aoshi, I would like to point out that when it comes to comparing Jill to Sheva, in your own post you make comparisons to their scripted stories. The fact that Jill in your words "failed" when they fought Wesker and Sheva succeeded in helping kill him years later is not a valid point to argue one's superiority over the other.

Keep in mind before you reply that I am a Sheva fan, but I do agree that Jill is more heavily invested in the series narrative at this time.

Apprehending Wesker was NOT Chris and Jill's mission...They got intel on Spencer's location and went to apprehend Spencer...They ran into Wesker by surprise and he, being the mutated freak he was, kicked their asses...Chris and Sheva found out about Wesker before they had to meet in combat in RE5, and even found out about his weakness being the serum...So Chris did NOT defeat Wesker because Sheva is a better partner than Jill, but because Chris was able to attain more information to find Wesker's weak point...Sheva had NOTHING to do with attaining this information either, so she can be given credit for NOTHING that Jill couldn't have done instead...

You are racist -- period.

After reading this part its obvious that discussing anything with you is ridiculous at this point.

So I've just reported you for obvious flame baiting here and trying to lure me into a argument.

And name calling?

Calling me dumb?

Real matue dude.

Grow up seriously. Its a freaken video game character dude.

But sheva and chris finished the mission. Which proves sheva is a better partner to chris than jill.

Wesker was about to kill Chris and Jill sacrificed herself to save him...
It wasn't Jill's fault that Wesker survived. Unfortunately (or fotrunately), there wasn't a lava pit below the window they fell from.

Woah woah WOAH! Hold up now there, people. I'm seeing a lot of accusations of racism being thrown around and it has to stop.

I'm not going to hand out anything official right now, but if some of you continue in the same vein then expect some repercussions. Take a breather, look at what is ACTUALLY being said rather than looking for subtext that doesn't exist and think before hitting reply.

The whole racist card is a rather tired and battered-looking one to pull out to try and save an argument. Don't use it here when it's wholly unwarranted. If I see any further accusations of racism which are not without reason - not to mention the wealth of personal attacks on one another, which there is never an excuse for - then I'm going to have get a bit cross with people.

Carry on, please.

Thanks for stepping in Angel.

Like I was saying, in RE5's case it seems that most of the "blame" should be leveled at the game's writers and programmers, not the game's characters. The characters aren't bad they're just written/programmed that way.

Nope... From the cut scene below chris states ..."Jill and I were pursuing a man named albert wesker...".They did seek spencer but eventually wanted to pursue wesker. Sheva was the one that cuts through wesker in the final scene as chris holds wesker. So she does deserve credit for wat jill and chris could not accomplish.

Aoshi, I would like to point out that when it comes to comparing Jill to Sheva, in your own post you make comparisons to their scripted stories. I don't think you read my post beyond my racist allegations. I mean sheva is a perfectly good character who deserves another appearence which is the subject of this thread. But comparisons were made with jill and that jill deserved to avenge wesker.Take a look at the few posts below. They had absolutely no thought besides hate (with passion). They can't even explain themselves besides seeking jill to replace sheva. That is why i compared sheva and jill.I don't see how it is invalid of me to compare the characters when the rest of the posts have been doing so. I will say it again, though jill has her past with umbrella, at the end of the day, sheva kicked wesker's ass.

Dear god no...

Just....no

I hated Sheva with a passion.

I didn't like her character at all and she brought nothing new to the series.
Yes, because effort and money was put into that entire decade. :D

But seriously, got to agree with ToCool on this one: hate Sheva with a passion.
I can honestly say I'm not a fan of Resident Evil 5 or having to have a partner the entire time but I truly don't think that's why I dislike Sheva. (But no, the fact that she hogged ammo and continuously shot me in the back of the head the whole time doesn't help her case.)

Sheva showed up and, in my opinion, pushed herself on the player: "Hey, I'm your new partner and you're stuck with me!" I also wasn't too fond of her little bought of indecision during the...second chapter of the game, I believe. She went from wanting to get the hell out of there to: "No, I'm with you 'til the end" in two seconds flat; her loyalty doesn't strike much confidence in me if we want to get right down to it. Her voice actress kind of got on my nerves as well. She's supposed to be African so why in the world does she sound British half the time?

I wasn't too fond of how all the attention went to Sheva and how Jill was so casually dismissed in this game either. I mean Jill has spent her entire video-game life fighting Umbrella and Wesker, she risked and very nearly lost her life to kill him and ended up his captive for somewhere around three years and the person who gets to off him in the last five minutes of the game is Sheva, who doesn't even know who Wesker is until the very end?

 Say what now?

I don't know, to me she just came off as a token, nothing more. I mean Capcom can say what they want about how critical response to the first Resident Evil 5 trailer had nothing to do with the changes they made to the game but when the first trailer comes out and every one's all up in arms about racism and then the second trailer comes out a year - not a week or a month but a year - later and you now have a partner who just so happens to be African, something's going on. Her character felt very forced and rushed; Josh was deeper than she was and he was only in the game for, what, five seconds? I mean I have no problem with having an African character put in the games but I think it needs to be a planned addition not:

"Oh ****, people are crying racism and the game takes place in Africa, what do we do?"

"Well it's too late to change the location."

"I know! Let's add a African character as Chris' partner, that'll end the caterwauling for sure!"

At least with Carlos and Steve, if you didn't like them, it was okay because you weren't attached to their hip every second of the game. And Billy...well I just don't see how anyone can dislike Billy; a very nice addition to the Resident Evil universe and a good way to handle a one-time character. (Made me want to see more of him, though.)

With each of these characters, you could tell that there was some thought put into adding them, with Sheva...not so much.

RE 6 is gonna have more new characters. Are you saying that those characters do not deserve more appearences in future games cuz they don't have enough history in the game. Pssssh....please....Capcom ain't gonna buy that crap and neither do i.

Ok so we all seen the Resident Evil 6 trailer and there was Chris but no Sheva do you guys think that Capcom really would just forget about Sheva because of all the hate towards Resident evil 5. Lets save her. Put the game Resident evil 5 aside for a second and think about sheva was her character so bad.
No, no, no, no, no. Oh and no.

Did i say no? I thought she was deeply flawed, irritating and an overall waste of space.

But i could be being critical.

Why is it so bad that she isn't in the game? My thoughts:

1) Resident Evil doesn't usually bring in the same main characters twice in a row. Granted there are exceptions especially with Chris coming back for RE6, but it's by no means unusual for a main character to not be in an immediate sequel.

2) I'm pretty sure RE6 doesn't take place in Africa (I haven't seen much of the footage or anything since I'm on a borrowed computer with no sound lol), and as far as I see it, Sheva is probably the kind of person who would want to stick around her home and help straighten things out there.

3) As you pointed out, she wasn't a well liked character in RE5 from my experience, so why be in a big hurry to bring her back?

Well, they could at least mention her like they did with Leon in RE 5 when they said about the "Kennedy report on ganados". Hahaha

You know, it's fun reading those fanerdgasmic threads when there aren't any soap operas on the tv.

Sheva wasn't a really interesting character I think.
Also Leon and Chris are being overused, especially Leon.
I'd rather see older characters such as Barry, Billy or Rebecca.
