Resident Evil: Requiem

You know, at this point, I’m almost hoping Leon won’t be in the game at all, and that he never was even planned to be, just so that annoying jackoff gets egg all over his face.
Oh I hope he's in it, so you bitter anti-fans can suffer in your brown stained under pants

Game looks... Okay? I like the bigger emphasis on horror, but I also think there's a point where horror can be "overdone". Making your protagonist completely defenseless against a stalker enemy is not really a Resident Evil thingy, it was firstly introduced in Village with the giant baby, but historically speaking our protagonists have always been able to fight back against every monster. Like it or not, Resident Evil was always more action-focused than other traditional survival horror franchises like Silent Hill, Clock Tower, Alone in the Dark, Fatal Frame, etc. I mean if I want to play Amnesia and hide under tables from an unkillable monster while finding a key to a puzzle, I can just go play Amnesia.

I hope for the love of God that this is just a tiny, isolated segment of the game similar to the giant baby in Village, and that the rest of the game plays out more normal. But if that's the case - Why are they making this segment such a BIG part of their marketing? Is it because the giant baby from Village went viral because of reaction videos? If so, that's even more stupid.

I'm not impressed. Show me the real game.

Almost certainly going to be the case.

Firstly, Capcom is aware enough to know players would react like this if it were the case throughout the game. Think Ethan waking up at the Baker dinner table, or as you pointed out, the Baby sequence: rewarding the player with a weapon after that is cathartic and influences the desire to continue playing once armed at last.

Secondly, it would be unrealistic for an FBI agent, even one who is just an analyst or whatever it is Grace does, to not have some kind of formal combat training, especially in a world that’s spent the last three decades dealing with bioterrorism, and a character whose mother was literally there at the beginning of that era.

And thirdly, the vengeance factor from Grace regarding Alyssa is almost certainly going to come into play. There’s no way she’s going to remain a helpless damsel who has to run from BOWs at every turn; she’s gonna get sick of it quick, strap up and start blazing away, most likely right after this sequence reaches its end.

On top of that, Resident Evil has done a better job than most game series of putting women on relatively even footing with men when it comes to moderately realistic combat prowess. Even Ashley, the most helpless adult female main character the series has presented, in the original version of 4 still took active part in her own rescue at key points, and they made it a point to increase that in the remake. No way they’re gonna leave Grace to only be able to run and hide at this stage in the series, regardless of the emphasis on horror.

I know, I can't wait to see more of the game too. They are drip feeding us and it's torture ... hehe
You can see at the end of the demo, through the bars the room is the same room they showed in a trailer where Grace has a gun. So presumably Grace will get a gun right after that section from the demo:

That's what I was thinking. Grace was literally tied to a table and had to find a way to get free; I sincerely doubt whoever tied her up just left her gun on her. In both RE4 and RE6 your gear was confiscated when you were captured, so I don't see why anyone would just automatically assume she'll be walking through the game weaponless.

After watching the demo, the only thing I can think is "man I hope that monster isn't Alyssa." My mind is probably going to places that just don't make sense, but the stalker was obviously a blonde female and my first thought was that would be a messed up send off.

As for the question of why this portion of the game is such a big part of the marketing, this is what? The second thing we've received, or at least that I have seen: the trailer and the demo. It's not like this is the only part of the game we've seen across multiple trailers/demos/leaked gameplay. They'll possibly reveal more later.

They're likely saving the big reveals like combat, Raccoon City, and possibly the big scary Leon reveal for when pre-orders hit and they can go all in on the marketing. So it makes sense they've been focusing on the game's newer and more technical feats like seamless camera switching and the vastly improved stalker A.I.

Gotta say, it made me happy seeing that thing get burned by light and back away into darkness as opposed to stupidly losing interest and walking away like Mr. X. Wonder if the rest of the infected are going to have the same affliction to light. Would be very Revelations 2.

Watch out for Dusk Golem guys I know the type. Even if Leon is not in the game at all and the general public does indeed throw eggs at him, he will retain a cult following and continue to cause problems within the community. People like that don't just casually throw in the towel. XD

I Remain cautiously optimistic on the game though, in any case.

Well we know who here will be lining up to lick that egg all off his face lol

Speaking of, he’s just said a bunch of new things about CV, apparently it’s being treated like a main game, Claire has a motorcycle to get around Rockfort Island (why does that ring an RE3 subway fast travel sounding bell?), Chris and Wekser’s fight is a playable boss etc

He is probably right about a hypothetical CVR being treated like a main game, but undoubtedly very wrong on the motorcycle theory.

He seems to applying Ubisoft logic into a Capcom series. Ubisoft would think it's cool to jump on the open world Days Gone motorcycle bandwagon and transform their games into what they feel is trendy and lucrative whilst Capcom does not have a track record of that particular algorithm. If Capcom does make a change to their formula, it's usually profound and revolutionary (RE4) or very subtle (RE7) rather than the Western studios habit of studying sales numbers of successful formulas and casually trying to transform game series' into numbers crunching beasts of other franchises.

Weird, since CV already is a main game. It’s not numbered in sequence, but literally every game that followed involving Wesker other than 0 relies on CV to explain why he’s back. CV was always a mainline title, I don’t see why it’s seen as a big deal that it’s being treated as such.

At the time of its release it was indeed treated/marketed as some kind of nuanced side game. It was not until RE4 was released when CV's plot became cemented into the mainline series more solidly, which weirdly made it more popular in retrospect.

I wasn’t playing the series at the time it came out, but I was playing before 4 ever came out, and I was never under any impression of CV being anything but the main entry game that came after 3 and before 0, with one line of dialogue squishing Survivor in there. I mean, CV was almost twice as long as any entry that came before it, that’s not the mark of a side story. When 4 came out and it was still being called 4 it irritated me, as it was clearly 5. But, whatevs.

You have to look at from the state of affairs at that time period with the fan base. The vast majority of RE fans were Sony Playstation owners and therefore expected to receive continued content on that platform. Code Veronica being released on Sega Dreamcast was considered weird and out there and therefore the game itself was weird and out there and did not land as heavily as the previous entries and felt like a detour to most of the fanbase. Same thing with RE0 and even REmake at the time. This games hold up highly in retrospect, but at the time the line was more blurry.

It was not until RE4 came out and blew everyone away therefore altering the course of the franchise mode profoundly.
