I'm in the UK. We have around a 23% Atheist population, and even the 70% of the population that are 'Christian' seem to be generally apathetic in their practice and devotion compared to those in other countries. Though we do have 26 bishops in our House of Lords, thankfully, they're an incrediibly small minority within the government and are mostly just token positions. While it's certainly a good thing for religous groups to get representation, I'd just rather they didn't have a significant effect in legislating for the entirety of the UK based solely on religion.
I agree completely.
I'm UK too, Scotland. I don't particularly have an opinion on Independence really, however the share of taxes being spent in the entire UK is being unfairly spent. I'm all for the Union if taxes are spent fairly, and also charged fairly, but they ain't. 8(point something) percent of the population are in Scotland but we pay 9(point something) percent of the tax for the UK, and most tax is spent in London and the south of England and some in Wales and the north of England, and the least in Scotland. This doesn't make me hate the English, just Westminster.
I remember Dawkins saying that it should be changed from having no bishops in Government at all, to having every politician keep their religious affiliation to themselves. Religious people don't need representation, laws should represent the best for humanity in general. If they have representation, then their religion is taking some priority over non-believers and other religions.
