College or University, anyone?

Since some of our members seem to be finishing up high school this year, I thought it would be neat to see what they're going to be up to afterwards, haha. So, is anyone here either currently enrolled, already finished, or planning on going to college or university? If so, what's your area of study (or what do you want to study), and what do you plan to do with your degree?

To start off, in the fall I'll be a third year University student. I'm currently enrolled in the Double Honours Political Science and Communication Studies program, although I'm planning on dropping communications altogether since I kind of hate it. I'm going to specialize in public policy, and then (hopefully) get into graduate school for public policy administration.

So, is anyone else doing some kind of post-secondary studies?

Our educational system differs,so there isn't a difference between University and College. You either continue your education,or you drop after high-school.I finished high school this year(about a month ago)-The hardest school in Montenegro,Gimnasium of Slobodan Skerovic/Sciences department (yeah I'm such a show-off  )
Anyway I'm planning to study Architecture. My education lasts for 3+1 years, and after that I'm planing on doing my Master somewhere abroad.Would like to become a professor of History of Architecture, and privately open my own Biro for enterior design. :)

But,first I must pass my qualifications test in order to become a student.I've been busting my behind out from studying.

That sounds really interesting, Trinity. Good luck with everything! I'm surprised that your high school had departments, aha, ours definitely didn't have anything like that. But then again, my high school didn't offer much in the line of courses anyway- there were only about 300 students total.

I know that the United States is kinda like that as well- in that there is little difference between University and College. In Canada, colleges are much more hands-on and they usually specialize in certain programs. University typically offers a more text-based approach, and high schools students who want to go to uni have to take a set number of academic courses to qualify (and higher averages as well, usually), whereas for college you can take either academic or applied.

I usually gag when I think about how many years I still have left, lol. Two more years for my undergrad, and then four more on top of that for my grad degree. I wasn't planning on getting a Masters when I first went to uni, but all the professors here stress endlessly about how a Bachelor degree is like the new high school degree, and that to get a good job you need a Masters.

It may be a bit off but its my education past so yeah.:p

Well back in school i was a bit of a nutter causing shenanigans i just could never stand the studying environment even as a kid, i just didn't think the teachers gave me my due respect at the time.Anyway left for an apprenticeship and did that for about 8 months, then i dropped out of that and have done alot of work experience but then I realized that I'm just blatantly failing, its only till now I've realized how important those teen years are...I know I'm easily smart enough to do something i want but without any qualifications your pretty much in the heap.

So I'm starting school in a week now(when i thought it was 2 weeks) and I'm going to complete my year 11 and if i decide i want to study,i will complete year 12 and i might head on to UNI and while I'm at it save up some money beforehand because the prices are quite a handful.Problem is I've never known what i like so I've never exactly picked something to study in I've been a chef, a barrister but then i realized how much i hated hospitality and tourism, so i did some labor work and eventually became a house painter.I was discussing to one of my mates once how we should become zoologists or just some animal carers in a zoo for a few years, i reckon that would be awesome just going to a zoo and feeding polar bears fish lol.

I'm in a real big pickle here, i hate having to go to school but it would be cool becoming some hell smart dude who knows bulk knowledge lol.

ive been out of high school for 2yrs almost and i wanna go to college but its way to expensive in b.c plus they dont have the courses i want but when i move to pei the colleges will be much cheaper and they will have two major courses id like to try out. Music or history.

Usually, in first year (at least at the uni I go to), you choose a very broad faculty like social sciences, science, engineering, etc, and you take a variety of different topics. In my first year, I was planning to actually do social work, but when I took the class I actually really hated it, but I loved my political science course so I stuck to it. So, usually you're given the option to try different things and find what you like. :)

Yeah, but they reformed it,so now you pick a few subjects. Mine were fixed. No courses, all the normal subjects plus a lot of science. Same goes for Uni,you can't choose which branch of architecture you'd like to study. It's 3 years of basic, the last you can choose between urbanism/design and projecting. :) I'll try to finish both. :D

I'm studying biological enineering. I didn't get to choose any subjects. It takes 5 years, I'm finishing the second.

Don't say you learn how to create scary things?

Nah, more seriously, maybe you can become a scientist finding cure for deseases? With that education you can probably choose between many interesting jobs. Do you have something particular in sight?

Not yet, but i'd like to go to the investigation area. I'd like to search for some solutions for the human heath or well being, etc. Dunno yet, but it's not that simple. Probably I can't stay in my country if i want to do investigation.

Almost sounds as if you were in my country. I'm under the impression that not many good investigators are being hired here....

we have very good investigators here, but there's almost no investment in investigation, so we have to go to other countries.

well right now i'm still in high school (year 10) but my plan is to try for a degree in law or criminal sciences. u know like csi stuff. i want to go to penn state for that.

and if that fails than i will try to go into the navy so that i can go into their welding program

I'm a 14 year old sophmore and i have a job and can drive just fine. how convieniant
