US miles are identical to UK miles? I think so. 1 UK mile is 1.609 kilometer.
40 mph x 1.609 = 64 km/h.
86 mph x 1.609 = 138 km/h.
Assuming the limit at that place is only 40 for a reason, 86 was probably quite recklessly of you.

Doing the same offense in Norway would get you 3 or 6 months in prison and about $ 3000 in fines. And your license would be revoked for maybe one year, you would have to go to a driving school and do all that over again in order to get the license back.

Be glad you didn't do it here, it would have sucked more.

"Outrageous speeding ticket" - what is the level of such tickets in USA? Court? You must have been going more than a little too fast.

Tickets for traffic offenses are insanely high in Norway, and going just 3 km/h (is less than 2 mph) too fast will cost from $115 to $150 depending on the speed limit (more expensive tickets for speeding where the speed limit is low, like residental areas).

You can easily get a $1500 ticket here if your foot is too heavy. That's as high speeding tickets can get without having the license revoked. In the case of more serious speeding, the tickets goes even higher and you have to go to court and it get's on your record. And you'll get the license revoked for 6 months - 2 years.

You must be taking the basketball seriously if it causes you to not have enough time to get on here. But it's your choice so good luck.
