"biggest" resident evil fan ever....

We shouldn't point fingers and say that he should have gave more to charity though, for all we know he's perhaps a generous person. Perhaps he does not waste money on other things like beer, cars etc. The point is we don't know.
My point was that there is no rational reason why any one person would need six copies of the same game. There are more practical - more worthwhile - ways to spend money rather than indulging oneself on things so utterly, utterly useless. In my opinion, why not just have a money-burning party while your at it?

Perhaps I'm being too harsh and judgmental, but I didn't find anything 'cool' about these collections at all.

That's true, it can't be any rational reasons. That person is just obsessed but I don't think it's right to criticize him/her for it.
I can think of alot of other - and more common - ways to waste money. Not necessarily "better" ways.

I'm going to have to stick with my convictions here. I'm sorry if I come across as a judgmental ****, but (imo) there is nothing even remotely impressive about these collections. I know these collections are supposed to impress - but in all honesty it just disturbs me. Perhaps I shouldn't be so quick to criticize, but I've never been particularly skilled at keeping my trap shut. :ermm:

Some people are collectors, and most don't build their collections to impress, they do it for themselves, because its something they enjoy. I am a firm believer in being able to do whatever you want with the money you earn, be it stamps, coins, porn magazines, cars, whatever. Why would you judge one collector more critically that others? I happen to have a rather large collection of beanie babies (I know) that I probably spent more on than his whole collection, does that make me worse than him? If he wants to play RE4 on all 6 of his consoles, I say go for it dude.

I’m a bit confused why it came across that I was judging any other person’s collection but the one I referenced, as that was not my intention and quite frankly I had no intention to even go there.

Well, I suppose this is where our values differ. While yes, people have the right to do whatever the **** they want with the money they earn, financial practicality is important for me, personally. I believe in spending money mindfully and never in excess on indulgent items. That’s simply how I was raised. Ever since I moved out, I’ve had to pour out hundreds of dollars a month on mortgage, car insurance, taxes, gas, tuition (which, is only doomed to hike up once I hit law school), parking, books, hydro, maintenance fees and there have been times where I barely have enough cash left over for groceries... So yes, to see someone throw down a couple hundred of dollars on six versions of what is essentially the same product does irk me. Perhaps I’m just jealous because I am not in a position to carelessly indulge as they do, I don’t know.

If you can do it – fine, but I think it’s just so ridiculously impractical. I was reading a few weeks ago about this girl (like, 12 or 13 years old) who had purchased 52 copies of the exact same album. It didn’t appear as if she had any intention of giving them away. How can this possibly be considered justified for the sake of a collection? Even if you do have the resources to collect all these albums - why on this Earth could anyone possibly need 52 versions of the very same album? I mean, it’s the same album jacket – the same disk with the same songs – why the need to waste hundreds of dollars on 52 of them – even if you have the cash in the first place? By a collector’s definition, why is this not considered a waste of money? Would buying 51 CDs instead of 52 make that much of a difference to your collection? It might for your wallet.

If they want to blow that money – fine, I’m in no position to stop them and I’m not trying to. However, I think many people take it too damn far, so far that it almost becomes a form of gluttony in a way. I have a very small collection of porcelain dolls – but buying the same doll more than once has never once crossed my mind. Why? Because even if I had the money, I don’t need two versions of the same damn doll. It would be a waste of money, wouldn’t it? How would I go about rationalizing myself purchasing the same doll to satisfy my collection? This is the problem I am having with comprehending why someone would purchase RE 4 six times. Yes, I know that there are a couple of minor differences in weapons and outfits and extras and what not, but what made that guy pick up his sixth version of RE 4 and decide it was a bloody good investment?

Its good to vent, no? :D

We don't know his intentions, and considering the fact that he hasn't posted in about a year I don't think we will find it out either. In my opinion, it all comes down to one thing: People are crazy. Yes, its crazy to buy 6 copies of the same game or 52 of the same album, but again, I believe that they are completely entitled to spend their money as they wish, and its not my place to tell them that they should spend it elsewhere.

Kelly you put it better than I could. :)

And venting is good by the way. It happens I have to vent too.

That guy is 16 now, meaning he was only 14 when he posted that. I'm not so sure he bought that collection with his own money... And the six copies of RE4 couldn't have been an investment. 14 year old kids don't make investments.
I totally agree with La Femme that it is a waste, but I think there is an expression that goes something like "each to his own".

I don't know what explains this collection including the six copies of RE4. Too kind parents? Or maybe he does not own all that, a part of it could be owned by someone else. Pictures never tells the whole story.

Isn't it a bit crazy how much energy we spend on a picture of a video game collection. =]

Yea for me RE has only 12 versions - 0 1original 1remake 2 3 4 5 CV UC DC OB1 OB2
And those gunsurvivors whatnot never counted

Dead Aim too, the only survivor (counting only RE survivors) that's not canon is the Code:Veronica one (although it's only Claire's dream, so it could be counted as canon).
There's actually 4 games in the survivor series, but one of them (the 3rd) is Dino Crisis instead of RE. That's why Dead Aim is also known as Survivor 4 instead of 3.

I'm a fan, but from my current collection, I still can't be considered as a "big" fan.

I only started playing Resident Evil when I bought the third Nemesis game for the PC. Since then I've been enjoying most Resident Evil stuffs. But I particularly love the collectible product the most. Here are few shots of my Resident Evil toy I bought few years ago, and in the future I'll be uploading most recent ones.

Your figurines are cool revenant.
Nice detail on them.

Thanks! They're made by a famous Hong Kong toy company, Hot Toys. They made RE4 a few years back and nowadays the Leon figures are quite hard to come by. And if you do find one, usually on ebay, their price are already jacked up!!
