That's because there was nothing to see. Mars was close to Earth in August 27 in 2003, not 2009.

If Mars comes so close it is as big as the moon in the sky, then THAT means that the direction the planets are moving has changed, which means that the moon would possible be GIGANTIC and the sun, which is the closest and most dangerous planet, would be coming close...and possibly touch Earth, and if not, heating everything and make people die, and make lots of un-living things melt or burn. Probably making Atlantic melt and have normal weather, slowly killing everything there, and melting all of the ice.

That's what it has to do with the current subject of this conversation, relating to the " Mars coming close " part.

Mars and Earth both orbit around the sun, each of them has it's own orbit, which is almost the same every time, but may change a little bit. It happened that, in August 2003, earth was a little more further from the sun and mars was a little bit closer, and so, the two planets were close enough for you to see Mars. Actually, i think the two planets are close to each other every two years.
Don't be afraid, we aren't coming closer to the sun.

So there was nuthin' to see eh? What a surprise.

To begin with it was credible, but in the end I had so little faith in this that I didn't care about going outside to look.

yeah i kinda heared something like that back then.. didn't have time to waste on such a worthless matter.. lol, was probably busy solving code veronica x puzzles..
