I agree with Weskerondope, it's just too much of the same location in Revelations. In the old REs except Code Veronica, I collected the maps just for the sake of completion, but I never actually needed to look at them because every room, even every corridor was so unique that I always knew where I was. In Revelations, I only got to that point after playing Rape Mode a lot, but the campaign was the first thing I played and more often than not I felt completely lost. Even when I knew where I was supposed to go, I had no idea how to get there, it's the only RE game that made me open the map a lot, just to close it again right away because I couldn't (and still can't) handle that stupid confusing 3D display.
Also, the old REs, while taking place in (relatively) isolated settings, still offer a lot of variety. In 1, we have not only the mansion, but the guard house too, which is also a residential location, but still looks completely different. Then there's the underground passage and the laboratory. In 2, we make our way through the city and spend a lot of time at the RPD, but not too much until we continue through the sewers to the final laboratory. 3 lets us explore several parts of the town and the buildings in them. For comparison: Revelations has three ships and three other locations (the beach, the snowy mountain and Terragrigia), which doesn't sound too bad other than that at least two of the ships are identical, but we only get to spend so little time in the other places that I wonder why they even bothered to build them; they should have used their energy to make the ship(s) a little more interesting instead.
So in the end, Revelations offers more of the good old classic atmosphere, but at the same time it doesn't, and my immense dislike for ships and other water-based locations only makes it worse for me. RE6 might be an action game without any of the survival elements, but at least it's fun, while Revelations might be great at first, but gets boring after two playthroughs at most. (And it's not really survival horror either; except on the highest difficulty, I always had more than enough ammo and herbs, so I really don't know what others mean when they talk about having to get along with limited resources. The only thing that's limited here is the fun.)
