What games Have the Best Story Lines

Many games have good storyline, but the one that I liked the most, got most involved is MGS4. Just loved the story :)
Good to hear. I've got MGS3 Subsistence and I've not tried it yet. Maybe my game has a good story too. :)

MGS 3 has a great story, but MGS 4 was not just good, but you enter the atmosphere, like in a movie, if you are a sentimental person, I doubt you won't cry

That sounds cool. If I like MSG 3 then I'll get MSG 4 for PS3.
Pfft, tough guys don't cry. :p

Really really really really really!!

All Silent Hill Series have the BEST Storyline ever, if you just tried one game out, you'll find out.

Yeah silent hill is badass man but its confusing as hell.I only played 1 and 4, i guess 4 isn't exactly silent hill either it was actually a different game but then they slapped silent hill on it halfway through production and obviously tweaked it up a bit.Only problem were those ghosts, funny as hell beating up those flying nannas but they were impossible to kill.

I've seen plenty of people on here who have mentioned Final Fantasy series in one way or another, and I say "Amen!" to all of them. Square-Enix has cornered the market when it comes to memorable RPGS. :)

Here's my list of games with storylines that I really liked:

Final Fantasy VIII
Final Fantasy X
Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time
Prince of Persia: The Two Thrones
Freedom Fighters
Resident Evil 5 :D (and pretty much the whole series, really)
Ico
Prince of Persia (PS3)--although the ending for the Epilogue is pointless and DUMB, but whatever . . .
Shadow of Destiny (super confusing, but always held my attention somehow, hah.)

--pretty much any game I like needs to have a decent storyline. Boring storyline=probably never playing it again, no matter how great the gameplay is. If I don't care about the characters, what's so exciting about filling their dull, uninspired digital shoes?

With the exception of the Dynasty Warriors series, which is pretty thin on story but big on hacking and slashing. Somehow that series became a staple with me despite this "error".

Well some games don't need a storyline if its just mindlessly beating people up like in smash bros or something thats enjoyable.I don't usually care about story but it actually makes a game like 20 times better if its good.

I'm not a star wars guy but Star Wars Kotor was real cool because all the characters have there backstory, you could become better friends with one another learn there story if your into that kinda thing.

How do you compare FF XII to the others? I ask because I've got only XII. I hope I'll get the time to play it someday, it's been collecting dust since I bought it.
I don't know if starting out with XII is wise, but it was the only game in the series that was for sale.

Those two games are solitaire and yatzy..

I think the games that have held my interest the best have been:

Tomb Raider 3
Assassins Creed (although the end was a bit anti-climatic)
GTA San Andreas
Resident Evil 4

Until recently I've been a casual gamer and find some fo the more popular games are boring...I've got Halo 3 and put that down in the firts half hour and given it away now and Fallout 3 is OK but too long winded with not a lot happening!

@Romero, in comparison to the others ffXII is weak in every aspect, the battle system has had a complete make over, the story line is dull and just seems to go from one pointless incident to the next, and the characters have lost the magical fantasy spark about them, and they don't seem very appealing. I suppose a few will disagree but this is coming from a hardcore FF fan who appreciates the originals.

I didn't care for FF XII as much as the other entries into the series. The graphics were beautiful and the world was sprawling and epic in scope, but I found the characters to be rather dull and the storyline didn't hold my attention very well. I didn't mind the battle system, and the ability to see enemies in real-time was cool, but it just doesn't save it for me when I don't care about the characters or story.

Still, FF XII has its fans, so you might enjoy it anyway.

Hades and Teal, thank you for your input. Highly appreciated.

So how far back should I begin then? What are the best games in the series?
I'll never get time to play all 12 games so let's consentrate about the good ones.

I have PS2 and PC. I'll perhaps get a Game Cube.

Get a GC, or if you have some bucks, get an wii, it's the same, but it has some other games :p I'm not a hardcore fan of wii, but it's cool :D

Get final fantasy VII, VIII and IX for the playstation and obviously play them on your ps2. They are the best in the series, they each have an epic storyline, beautiful worlds and a solid story line that will definitely keep you interested. Then of course you could get X and X-2, but a little heads up X-2 is pretty awful. XI is online play only.

Final Fantasy X, IMO, has the best storyline out of the rest of the Final Fantasy games, ever. The story has a bunch of twists and turns, some romance, some sad moments, some scary moments(wait till you see Sin...) and an awesome soundtrack at that! :)

I have the bucks but my reason to desire a GC is the RE Remake, if I recall correctly it was released on GC only.

X-2? If this was after XI then it should have been named XII.
Awful in what way? It's awful yet still you recommend it?

X-2 is ff10 part 2, so obviously before 11 and 12, although the games story lines don't follow each one is set in a different world with different characters, except X-2 which is a sequel. I would recommend you play them all but IMO X-2 is the worst.
@levan, all FF Games have them aspects.

Yeah, I guess so. I'm just very intrigued on FF10's storyline. :p

I've always despised FFX2... I'm not saying it just because of the femininity of the game, but because it's a quest/mission based RPG. I guess I only played it just so I could follow the story. =/

i didn't like it being quest based and actually having a 'mission accomplished' at the end of chapters, it all felt very childish to me. I could follow the story though.
