Alien Romulus-

I thought it was a decent flick but it’s a bit underwhelming with how the actual Aliens/xenomorphs were handled.

I really loved the Andy character- David Jonsson does a phenomenal job and really stands out here. I also enjoyed the world building and how they went back to a more retro style with the ship and costume designs. They clearly took inspiration from all of the previous movies before it as well as Alien Isolation and The Last of Us. I just wish the 2nd half of the movie was better paced because it all plays out so fast.

Saw Transformers One last night (had another Friday night off from work and took advantage), it was really good. Everything was handled masterfully, from Prime and Megatron (to be)’s relationship to the climax. I loved seeing the growth of their characters (which the Mario Bros. animated film could’ve used) and the set up for the bombastic climax, which was excellent all the way to the end. Not a single dull moment in this movie that I recall and the action and SFX are the best in any Transformers movie to date, both animated and live-action alike.

Moreover, I love how it actually gives us a Transformers movie about the effing Transformers this time instead of the (usually soulless) humans, which we haven’t had since the OG original animated film, which I watched the night before in prep for this. The first live-action (“Bayformers”) film I do like, though.

8.5/10 already pre-ordered the 4K. I hope it does well enough to greenlight the sequel, which they set up nicely.

I just saw Smile 2, I really enjoyed it. One thing I will say is: this one definitely ups the ante with the psychedelic/paranoia sh!t from the first movie. Moreover, I thought Skye was a more interesting and well-rounded character than Rose from the first movie and I felt like the added paranoia/hallucinations brought out the best in her character, not only in her performances, but the weight of the story. Speaking of story, it also felt more focused and self-contained and I liked seeing Skye’s descent into madness in this one more than I did Rose’s. She’s given more to do and the stakes felt higher. I rewatched the first one before going to see this one in the theater BTW.
