I just saw the new Mortal Kombat movie trailer and I see some highs and lows:

I have already read a copy of the script and I was not very impressed with it. Mostly because it is somewhat disrespectful to the source material. But adding your own characters and spin to a franchise doesnt necessarily mean it will be bad. But I do not love it. It looks more accurate to the source material than the RE movies at least.

The CGI only looks okay. Goro does not look great. You only see him for a second in the trailer. And a lot of the characters look a little bit off to me. But I do love the original move a lot, so that could just be a personal complaint. But the trailer does show some fatalities going on, so at least those that want their blood and gore fix will be in to it. I just feel like the story looks to be too off from the events of the games to appeal to me. I will still watch it and enjoy it. I enjoy almost every move I see. But I will always dream about what could have been if it disappoints me.

Was it the shooting script or an early draft? Not that it makes much of a difference either way, my expectations were low to begin with. Videogame movies usually aren't great as we all very much know, and I, too differentiate enjoyment from quality. No way would I call G.I. Joe: the Rise of Cobra a good movie, but it is a fun, entertaining one, unlike Retaliation.

Not surprised about the changed story beats, either, no game-to-movie adaptation was 100% accurate to their source material, especially the Paul Anderson Resident Evil films, which were practically REINO (Resident Evil In Name Only) save for a few small details.

Though I definitely came for the gore, or more importantly, the fatalities, which were sorely lacking from the first 2 movies. We have Deadpool to thank for this new hard R cinematic revival, I doubt this movie even gets made if not for Deadpool's smashing success. Let's just hope the rest of the movie checks out or is at least entertaining, though I'm keeping my expectations in check.

It seemed to be an earlier draft from what I saw in the trailer, so it might be a little bit different. I am still pretty excited to see the movie, but it just scares me to get excited only to be let down! haha.

The choreography and visuals look pretty good. And maybe Goro standing in one place will look better. Heres to hope!

Got my first dose of the vaccine tomorrow afternoon...second one booked in for mid-May.

Also got the dentist booked for Monday, which I'm dreading, because this time I think I really will need a filling and I've never had one before. Terrified of the dentist, me...

I have unfortunately had multiple fillings when I was teen. It is not a big deal. I recently had all of my fillings replaced in a single day and I was out of back at work after an hour. No stress at all. If you get one, just know that you will be super sensitive to cold items for a while. And you can never chew on foil EVER again.

Also, I have my first vaccine shot tomorrow too! Looking forward to it.

Vaccine twinsies!

Glad to hear fillings aren't a horror story...I have such a deep fear of the dentist ever since I was very young. Memories of being pinned down on a table and having a big black gas mask being lowered onto my face so they could remove teeth. Ugh...

CT: house is upside down...renovations are messy things indeed

Nothing at the dentist is ever fun, but it is not too bad either. I actually kind of like getting my teeth cleaned, feeling the cleanliness wash over me and empower me!

Dentist update (not that anyone cares because, let's face it, it's the dentist, not a Nobel prize):

Had a new dentist today and she was quite possibly the nicest person I have ever been treated by. Turns out my teeth are still crazy healthy apart from one small cavity which is only just starting...they're going to fill it as a precaution but she said it's so small I won't need anaesthetic (but I'm totally having it).

And I didn't cry once! Yay grown-up me!

Congratulations on that grown up feeling! It is a wonder to behold. At 34, I still feel like I am 22 sometimes and other times, I feel like I am 70, but mostly when I get unknown back pain out of nowhere.

I did get my first Moderna shot last week and aside from a little soreness, it was one of the easiest vaccinations I have ever received! The flu shot I got last year caused soreness and swelling for like a week, so this seems like nothing. March 25th is my appointment for my second vaccination. Looks like I might have an actual wedding by June! (fingers crossed)

Yay wedding!! I hope it's able to go ahead for you guys!

I had the AstraZeneca jab (next one due mid May) and I had a mild reaction to it but nothing that would stop me having the second dose. My arm still hurts a bit and for about ten minutes after the jab, my whole arm and hand went a little numb, my wrist really hurt and my chest got a bit tight... it's just the muscle pain now at the site of the injection.

Everyone was in such a good mood in the centre - so many happy people getting stabbed lol

Can't even imagine when it's my turn to get the vaccine here in Sweden. We're so far behind the rest of the world it's laughable, we haven't even finished vaccinated all the people at nursing homes yet.

How is it all going in Sweden? All we've heard over here is that things didn't change much in terms of rules and restrictions during 2020. Is that still the case?

That's right. We have by far the most open society in terms of restrictions, since our public health agency has been actively pushing for what's called "recommendations" in favor of actual restrictions. Instead of enforcing lockdowns and strict rules, Sweden has consistently relied on the "responsibility of the individual", to keep the virus in check. The result has been.... a very mixed bag. I've said from the very beginning that you can't rely on everyone to follow simple recommendations unless they are enforced.

Swedish people are also very anti-mask, which is a direct result of our public health agency having said since March last year that "masks don't help" and many people ridiculed me on the street last spring when I was wearing a mask. Things changed in December 2020 when they suddenly changed their mind in wake of a large second wave, and suggested that "masks could be of use in public transport". Can you believe that? Up until that point, 95% of all the people in Sweden were riding on public transport without masks! And how ironic that the same public health agency that used to ridicule masks, did a complete reverse and suggested that they could be of use after all. Ouff.

There also exists a widespread Swedish fear-of-conlict mentality which has led to the phrase "it's always somebody elses responsibility/fault". So when bad things happens, the government blames the PHA or the regions, the PHA blames the regions, the regions blame the PHA or the government, and nobody listens to what the local government offices say anyway. The blame game goes around so much that in the end, it's impossible to blame a single entity for the mistakes - which is precisely how Swedes like it. This mentality goes hand in hand with the constant push for a "collective responsbility", where everyone must do their part. It's an old socialist utopia dream because anyone with common sense knows that there will always be people who break the rules unless there is a punishment. As it is now, there is no punishment in Sweden for meeting up in private with large amounts of people, and you're free to go wherever you want without a mask.

We also have some of the worst numbers per capita in the world.

That's genuinely really interesting to read because that's not the impression the news has given...it has made out like Sweden handled it really well and has been used by some as anecdotal evidence that we (in the UK) should never be locked down like we have been and currently still are. Initially, the government wanted a herd immunity response but for reasons I can't recall, they changed it to full nationwide lockdown very quickly in March last year.

I'm going out on a limb here and say the British public, on the whole, aren't very good at being responsible for their own actions. A bit of sunshine and the beaches were packed, despite the rules. Allowed to meet up with one other person outside? That must mean ten others and a house party at the end of the night. One of my friends who I met up with in Birmingham said she refuses to wear a mask because "anxiety" (which she doesn't suffer from) - yet, when we went to the spa and the rules stipulated wearing a mask, she had no issues whatsoever :sneaky:

I genuinely don't know what's best any more. New Zealand (afaik) have gotten it all sorted and I do think that since the UK is an island, we had the power to make the same arrangements in terms of shutting borders. But even now, they won't. The government seems far too afraid to make such a big decision and now, almost a year later, they don't have the support of the public any more. Had they made the decision when people were in the whole "let's pull together and beat this thing" mentality, they would have had a shot. Instead they messed around and we are in a lot of trouble on numerous levels. The fact that it took a FOOTBALLER, of all people, to get the government to feed children shows just how out of touch they all are with the realities faced by the average person. But they also know we don't have another election due for a few years yet, so we can't do much about it. Having said that, no goverment in peace time has ever had this sort of thing thrown at them in the UK, so who's to say that a different political party would have done a better job?

Hopefully, with the vaccine programme rolling out, we can start to come out of this stuff so that by Christmas we won't be still locked down and restricted.

It’s interesting to compare the UK and Sweden because early on in the pandemic, our public health minister defended Sweden’s anti-lockdown measures by saying that the UK isn’t enforcing a lockdown either. As things went worse, he continued to use this comparison, that is until the UK decided to do a lockdown after all. Since then, he has consistently been pushing the narrative that ”We won’t know for sure if one method is better than the other”, over and over again while people kept on dying on a much grander scale compared to our Nordic neighbours.

I don’t know what to say any longer. I used to follow the global pandemic news much more aggressively last year, but I’ve grown tired of it just like so many others. I still follow all the recommendations though, patiently waiting for my turn to get vaccinated (which, if I’m lucky, will happen in 2022 at earliest).

We only need to follow these restrictions a little longer. The US is vaccinating people FAST. Nearly everyone in my inner circle is already vaccinated or knows when they will be. I think Bidens prediction that everyone (willing) will be vaccinated by May is a little bit of an over promise, but seriously, it is getting done. Every CVS, Walngreens, and Rite Aid near me are doing them. I had to go in to a Walgreens yesterday and I accidentally locked eyes with a ~70 year old man as he got his shot. Luckily, he smiled at me as he did.

I just hope Texas doesnt screw this up for us!

Everyone feels that way every day... ALL the time. haha.

I have been restarting my annual Spring workout to try and fight off the weight gains of the Winter. So far, so good. I have probably lost close to 10 pounds since February and hope to continue the goal until Wedding time.
