Resident Evil: Requiem

There's not even any evidence there is going to be an "action focused segment of the game" so this is complete hogwash.
I prefaced that with the word "could" which means I'm just speculating, but you have to come in here and let me know that it's complete hogwash.

The Chris segment in Village was very tiny and hardly even worth a mention and was basically thrown in there to cover a few story elements so it could hardly be used as an example of Chris being considered any kind of "main" protagonist. He plays a supporting role.
In my previous comment I used Chris in Village as an example of a character that would not be considered a main playable character. If Leon is playable for a similar amount of time to Chris in Village Dusk would be wrong and have discredited himself. I did use Chris in Code Veronica as an example that would be considered a main playable character.

There will be action, less than 4 or Village though, but based on the director comments that you’re going on a journey with Grace and seeing her grow and become more capable, I don’t see why she wouldn’t be the one who has the action gameplay as it would tie into that idea.

We also have no physical attacks apparently, so the action in the game is all weapon based if true. That makes perfect sense for Grace, not so much for Leon especially against zombies which are confirmed as the main enemies.

Of course there will be action! The reply was to the person saying that there will be another character to "cover the more action parts of the game" and the fact that there is zero evidence for this and I'm also pointing out (on my own initiative) that Chris' action segment in Village is a misnomer because its very brief and just there to fill in plot holes mostly. Its a very poor anecdote to reinforce the speculation that Leon will also play a similar role thereby attempting to validate and justify Dusk's half baked claims.

I know, my comment wasn’t a reply to anyone I was just adding to the conversation, but I don’t think Burton was suggesting there was any evidence of an action segment like Chris’s, or that such a segment will even exist, he was just musing on how Leon (or whoever) could fit into the game.

We know there will be action, some people have latched onto Geoff’s comment of "cinematic action" at the original announcement, thinking it means there will be a dual focus on horror and action, with a horror protagonist in Grace and a second, action protagonist.

I personally doubt this theory, but at this stage it’s very unclear. It could just as easily refer to isolated set pieces, like those seen towards the end of 2 and 7.

Thanks and that's right. That post was about what would constitute a main playable character and then I pondered if Leon might have more action focussed sections if he were in it. If there is more than one playable character, it could just be the way it usually is like Claire and Leon with a similar amount of action.

Ah ok, so you were not replying to what I said on this, and we definitely agree on this point.

New interview:

This time with the producer. Chris and Leon mentioned again (apparently their involvement equates to action, like it’s unavoidable). More about how it’s focused on horror, closer to RE2, we see Grace grow etc, amongst other things.

Discussion about the original open world concept, all told RE9 has been in development for six years, so since about 2019. So then, not immediately after RE7 in 2017 that Dusk said a while back.

I just find it funny how this game seems like it should have been the real Resident Evil 7 and the actual Resident Evil 7 was some kind of large Beta test or something xD.

I don’t see how any of this makes sense. How does this feel like the actual Resident Evil 7? How does the actual Resident Evil 7 feel like a “Beta test”? And how do either of those statements incorporate the existence of Village?

It was kind of inside joke for the people who thought Resident Evil 7 was bland survival horror. I have no idea why you brought Village into this but Village was a good shooter with some horror elements. So after a few years I have come to the conclusion that I would rather play a good atmospheric shooter with horror elements (Village) than I would a mediocre survival horror game with not much to offer (7).

Resident Evil 9 looks like a vast improvement from Resident Evil 7 insofar as survival horror goes so therefore Resident Evil 9 would have made a better "comeback" survival horror than Resident Evil 7 by the way things are looking here.

I could be wrong of course as the game is not out yet but so far everything seems to check out, besides the whiners on here and X who keep stressing about the presence of Leon in the game.

New interview:

It's interesting in the interview Kumazawa says this about the open world version of the game:

"Looking at the game when it was multiplayer, the horror part was very mild. However, in that build, we made a game that was fun to play. But we looked deeply into this game and wondered if a fan of the franchise would really like this, so we thought they would probably wouldn’t enjoy it as much. That’s the reason we made it back into single player. But because it was fun, we added elements from that build to the final game to ensure it was fun."

So they added back elements from that version of the game. I wonder what that could mean?

I can see it, RE9 could be the RE7 we were hoping for. Don't get me wrong, I'm a big RE7 fan but I thought of the game as a step in the right direction after RE6 rather than a full realisation of the old style survival horror in a modern 3D game engine. I hope RE9 is going to move even further in the right direction in that regard.
