Which Super Smash Bros. do you prefer?
Do you have any favorite characters?
Do you feel that any characters you liked were ruined in later versions of the game?

My #1 is Super Smash Bros. Melee. I just think it's simply the best. The speed and technical skill involved mean you can enjoy it no matter how good you are, but there's an enormous skill curve that just isn't there in the other games. I love wavedashing and shorthopping, though I'm still learning to do both.

In Melee, I play with Link, Dr. Mario, Falco, Jigglypuff, and Sheik.
Link has been my go-to since the original. I'm by far the most comfortable playing as him. Though I've gotten pretty good with everyone else and I never practice with him, all I have to do when someone is beating me is pick Link and more often than not I'll destroy my competition.
Dr. Mario is the funnest character in my opinion. I'm not the best with him but I enjoy playing as him the most. I practice my wavedashing when I'm playing as him and it's fun to try ballsy strategies.
Falco is my pet project. He's who I think could be my best character if I keep playing with him. So far, he's about 2/3rds of what Link is.
Jigglypuff is my cheap character. My friends refuse to play against me with Jigglypuff because I take full advantage of how floaty and hard to hit she can be. I don't use the sleep move. I just puff around and punch people from behind or in the air. I can continuously puff and kick someone right off the map to the far edge of the screen and make it back to the stage alive.
Sheik is just a fast character I can pick up and put down at any given time. Insanely good, easy to pick up.

Of those 5, Link, Jigglypuff, and Sheik were all ruined in Brawl. Their virtues were erased. Dr. Mario wasn't even in brawl. Falco, on the other hand, remained insanely good. I can't play the original Smash any more because the rate of gameplay is simply too slow. I get bored.

Melee is the only Smash Bros. for this guy

I'm with you all the way. Melee is by far the best. The only thing I did not like about both games is that Sheik/Zelda are one character. They can't deviate from the story one bit -_-

I agree. It's annoying because people tend to choose Sheik/Zelda to play as only one. In modified versions of Brawl they've done the right thing and separated them. I can only guess why Nintendo hasn't thought of it first, but it's pretty often that the modding community for a game comes up with that sort of thing and the developer catches up later on.

melee=awesome.
remember the countless hours spent on that game.
lol.
think my favourite character was link/jigglypuff

Melee...Only because I have MANY good memories with it...Plus, you had the ultimate tag team of Marth and Roy...Granted, Brawl has Ike, but it's just not as epic...

I do think Brawl did characters better, and considering this is among some of my all time favorite games, it had Sonic, Link, Ike, Marth, and Samus as my best characters...I have a thing for playing as the swordsman...

N64 version is still very fun, i really liked how big the stages were and to be considered an out you had to shoot out really far as opposed to Brawls small arena style.I wish i could say Melee but i haven't played it in about 6 years sadly..i don't remember too much of the feel and mechanics. So that said Brawl would have to be my besty for now.

Haven't played brawl in awhile either. Best character really can effect the stage and characters you are versing. That said i love Mario and King Dedede.
