Is anybody else here a Christian?

Silverback

Moving Mountains
So, like the title asks: Is anybody else here of the Christian faith? Whether you're a Jehovah's Witness, a Catholic, ect.

I've been attending meetings with Jehovah's Witnesses for a while now and I'm beginning a Bible study sometime either this week or next week with an Elder, hoping to learn from God's Word.

Is there anybody else on here of the Christian faith? :D

I'm a Christian, I think.

Have you just gotten into Jehovah's Witness? I would advice using the Internet and do some research on them before getting involved, it's all I can say really, I don't want to offend anyone.

Nah, I've been going to Bible meetings for months, so I well know what I'm getting myself into.

Truth be told, I'm not actually a Christian yet, because in order to become a Christian, you have to take in accurate knowledge of God's truth, undergo an underwater baptism, and theres another qualification which escapes me at this time.

I haven't undergone baptism yet, and likely won't for a long time until I've studied the whole Bible, which I will be beginning to do in a week or two. We do study the Bible at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses (the meeting place) but it's not as thorough a study as a Bible study with an Elder, where only you and the Elder study together.

Thanks for the input, Romero. ^ ^

My family is Christian, and thus I was Christian growing up and even went to a Christian boarding high-school. Unfortunately, there were certain things that occurred during that period of time - that I'm not about to speak about - which resulted in me dropping both my religion and faith, and I came out of high-school an apathetic agnostic.

And that's all I got to say about that/// Forrest Gump.

Me! My whole family is Baptist..except for me. I haven't been baptized so I don't really look at myself as being Baptist. But anytime I go to church, I faithfully go to my local Baptist church lol.

Oh god. I see a flame war incoming. Anyway, I'm agnostic, but used to be Christian. I was sheltered most of my life from religion, but after I started researching religions and choosing which beliefs seemed most plausible, they were all silly to me.

Just want to add to Romero's comment and say that it's a good idea to find out about any religious sect from other sources first. Feel free to join the one you want, but of course they will want to put a positive spin on things if someone is showing interest in joining. I'm saying that applies to pretty much every world religion except for Judaism and Buddhism, neither of whom believe in recruitment.

Personally, I am not Christian. I was raised Jewish and still am in the genetic sense (Judaism really is just as much a race as a religion), but my belief leans more towards agnosticism/atheism. I can tell you that growing up in a largely Christian country as a non-Christian stomped out any interest I may have had in it. Naturally I know plenty of Christians and we get along fine, but being told by the other kids that I'm going to hell tends to put a damper on these things. ;)

I'm Catholic, ja. :) I'm currently reading a book called Interior Castle by St. Teresa of Avila. It's a fascinating read! :D

Those kinds of Baptists are insane lmao...I am so glad my family isn't part of THAT group :p

I'm a Christian, if you are ever stuck just pm me and i'll help you out.

as am sure you know, becoming a christian doesn't make you perfect, give you super powers or put you in the position to damn others. It's not some badge you earn and stitch onto your little blazzer like a goody two shoes. You are made into one, and it's a life long endeavour.

so take your time, and listen carefully to the word. not what you don't hear, don't want to hear, or thought you heard...

Your walk with god is yours alone, nobody elses. You may ask experienced people for thoughts and opinions, but never have them choose your path.

Be sure to ask serious questions, and work hard at it, but spare little time for trolls. they are a distraction at best.

good luck with it :)

If someone has been telling you that then they are misinformed. All you have to do is confess, repent and accept Jesus Christ as your Lord and Saviour. That's it. Seriously. As a result of that, you enter into a relationship with God and start changing from the inside out, as it were. Anyone who gives you a list of "you must do this" is selling you religion, not faith. Reading the bible, praying, baptism etc - all important stuff. But to become a Christian proper is not about ticking boxes but relationships with both God and other people. Having said that, the JW's have a different slant on things so if you are wishing to join their particular faction then they will tell you something else. The core message of Christianity is about salvation - forgiveness, redemption, grace etc. It's not about good works or religion but rather relationship with God. I got baptised when I was 14 and I knew hardly anything about the bible -but it explicitly states to believe and be baptised. So when I was ready, I got dunked. That was all there was to it. It's an outward expression of an inward faith. I'm non-denominational which basically means anyone and everyone who accepts Jesus as the Son of God and their personal Saviour can get stuck in and have a good time. We've got Catholics, Baptists, Protestants, former atheists - all kinds.

You are correct on all points made here, I think. :D

I don't know, JW's have a differing slant to Christianity to Catholics - Which was the first faith I kind of adopted, but I've learnt from the JW's that God is a God of unconditional love, and therefor wouldn't create a Hell. You'd have to be hateful to create a place of eternal suffering for anybody.

Now before you ask "If God is so loving, why does he allow suffering?"

The truth is, God has allowed Man to govern himself for a lengthly time. This was the claim I believe Satan (God of this current system of things) made against God was that "Man doesn't need God - He is capable of governing himself".

This is what I believe God has allowed Man to do. Govern himself, and look what state the world is in:

Fear, corruption, suffering, misery, regret, pain, and sorrow. Hate worldwide.

Thus, Man fails to govern himself.

I agree about the relationship being the most vital part of things. What we who believe need, is an intimate relationship with God.

You mention how we eventually start changing from the inside out. I assumed this was after you undergo an immersion baptism, hence getting filled with the Holy Spirit, thus the Holy Spirit begins to change you depending on if your obedient to God's law/way of living.

Atleast that makes sense to me. lol

Throughout my life I've considered Catholic, Jehovah's Witness, and Mormon faiths. Even Atheism actually but that belief made no sense to me.

I'm joyful to see so many Christian's on this board!

So there are groups of Baptists who are very different from the rest? I would have guessed that a Baptist is a Baptist, just as simple as that. But I don't know anything about them; they are super rare over here. The fact that I've not heard much about them, indicates the Baptists we have here is not so very different from other Christians.

There are some that are practically like radical Muslims. I believe the group that Angel mentioned are the ones that are crazy as hell LOL. I think every religion has a group like that though.

My faith is very clear about forcing your beliefs on others and telling them "you have to do this/that" - it's not the way to get people interested if they feel bullied, coerced and stamped upon.

It's nice to see a Christian who believes in that. It is one of the fundamentally Christian things when you read the new testament, along with not having Churches and the like. I'm glad there are some out there who can remember that, at it's heart, Christianity is supposed to be all about keeping an open mind and not trying to sway people into believing one faith or another.

The only things I plan on following are the ten commandments, along with the golden rule.

You shall not kill.

You shall not steal.

You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor.

You shall honor your mother and father. And so on.

The golden rule? Love God with all your heart.

We have fire extinguishers ready for any flames lol. :D It's not going to be a problem, we have had similar topics before and there wasn't a problem.

You maybe are too intelligent for any religions. ;)

So I can not convert and become Jewish just because I was not born Jewish? I think religion and race should be separated. Jews are Jews both in a religious and racial sense? It's illogical.
