For those of you who don't know...Cosplay is if you're going to a convention, or something along the lines, you dress up as a media character...Whether it be anime, movie, book, tv-show, video game, ect. ect...

Anyway, I'm pretty new to it, but it really is fun...You get to be someone else for just a few hours, and when you see other cosplayers, you instantly know ONE thing they're into...Whoever they are cosplaying as...

So, what do you guys think of cosplay? After all, Halloween is to cool to only come once a year...

I think it's awesome and I would like to see it first hand. I can't pretend anything at all so I don't have enough confidence to act a role, but I really wish I could.

I don't get it. I can understand liking something. Man, that's a general and meaningless statement...
Anyway, I don't understand liking something so much that you'd want to dress up as it. I just don't see how you can get from A to B. I find the whole practice strange and could never see myself partaking.

I dress up for Halloween, but it's never for the same reasons. A Halloween costume is based around how much it'll entertain everyone else. How much you like whatever you dress up as has very little to do with what you choose.

Example: last year I dressed up as Waldo.

The people who spend money and dress up as the grim reaper or something elaborate and serious... well, they don't really wind up at the same parties that I do.

I think it's alright. It is much like Halloween only it is taken a step further.

It's kind of like playing improv theater with a bunch of friends. Much like real world actors who get to play our favorite action stars or characters we see on TV and in the movies, this is a chance for the fans to jump into the act for a couple of hours and experience the fun. Nothing wrong or weird about that if you really think about it. Just like being an actor except you don't get paid.

I've never been to a convention like that, but I've heard and know enough about them. I would like to partake in the future as a zombie or an RE or Legend of Zelda character. :D

When people do it right, it's pretty worthwhile and entertaining.
I don't mind it at comic book and anime expos, but when you're at something like Eurogamer (massive games expo here in England) it takes away from the atmosphere. It's not right seeing a Naruto or Ichigo wandering around when there's no comics/anime in sight.
The "worst" of it are all of those Jill and Sailor Moon cosplayers... It looks... Erm... Horrible... Yeah.

That's a very very great way to put it...And as far as RE and LoZ cosplay...Those are my biggest two as well...Kudos...

Again, what you've said is great and all. I don't doubt that some people find it fun.
For me, I just can't imagine it being that way. I don't see where the enjoyment factor of that comes from. I don't really have any desire to pretend that I'm a character from the media. Well, maybe in a minimalistic, Halloween sense I can understand it, but not because I would get any joy in dressing up and acting like something I enjoy watching. Certainly not sitting down and designing a costume and role-playing.

I guess it's more the role-playing part that gets me, that makes the whole thing strange. For me, the sole purpose of wearing any costume is to go where other people are wearing costumes, drink until you don't remember who you dressed up as, and (hopefully) wake up the next day in bed with Jessica Rabbit. I can't imagine standing around sober in a costume.

I guess some people just love the role playing aspect of it. If it floats your boat, I say go nuts.
It's just not for me. Venus and Mars, I guess.

You said that Halloween is for others, more so than you...I believe cosplay at conventions is about a half way mark...You're not doing it just for you...You're not doing it just for them...You're doing it because not only do you enjoy it, but you're doing it with a group of several other people that have the one thing in common...I'm not trying to change your opinion, I'm just explaining why we cosplayers feel the way we do...It's a way of meeting people that we already know are interesting in at least one aspect, and it's great for conversation starters...I've met many friends doing it...

I'm in the same boat as Cheez. I don't have anything against it, I just don't 'get' it. I dress up at Halloween but that's pretty much it. And I don't really understand the appeal of Comic Cons and all these things either... my old boss told me he and his son stood in line for more than two hours for someone's autograph and I just thought he was crazy. I could never. But then I have the patience of a 5-year-old.

Eh it's not something I could get into. I'd love to attend Comic Con but I've never had the desire to cosplay. *shrugs* It just doesn't melt my butter.

Lol. Patience is a virtue Femme! I stood in line for about 45 min for Jared Padalecki's autograph.

I'm not into it but I do want to try a zombie Live game, survival experience, or nerf gun style game, there are several in UK... a bit like paintballing but there would be a team of zombie actors and if they grab you i guess 'your dead' . The more expensive day experiences have zombies with like explodable blood packs and similar., theres one in an abandoned mall that looks quite good..

Ya, they have em in my town too. I live in the Heart of the US, and they do one called Ozark's Rising. (The region I live in is known as the Ozarks.)

I really like the effort people put into outfits. I've always wanted to attend an anime con and cosplay, but the lack of funds have always stood in my way.:(

Hopefully someday I'll be able to. Three characters I'd love to cosplay as is Yami Bakura, Soul Evans and L.
