My disappointments are as follows. Just to clear the air, I am not hating on the game, I actually loved the game. But sticking to some basics could have made this game sooo much better.
- Co-op - While I love the idea, I don't want the game to suffer due to the mechanic. Almost everything I mention here is due to adding co-op into the game. I think that say's something doesn't it? If you really want to cater to both groups (hard-core and casual fans), then create a lengthy single-player campaign (15-20 hours), and also a side-mission that can be done co-op (think LIN but 8-10 hours in length).
- Save Rooms - Not including save rooms in RE5 was probably the biggest disappointment. I am guessing most of the people on this forum can tell you where every single save room was in most of the RE games. Why? Because they were so memorable and broke the sense of despair with a sense of relief. A lot of this was due to the special "save" music that accompanied these rooms. That entire feel and atmosphere was missing from RE5.
- Weapon load-out screens - Really capcom? This replaced the save rooms, item boxes, merchants? This isn't Gears or CoD. Load-out screens need to go IMHO.
- Horrible Inventory - This goes hand-in-hand with the load-out screens that I listed above. The new inventory system is horrible. Could the "classic" system use some updates? Sure, but the classic inventory system was way better then the RE5 system.
I could go on and on with other things, but I don't want to nit-pick. Like I said at the top, in the end I enjoyed the game, but it could have been so much more. I feel like Takeuchi placed an emphasis on multi-player, which is honestly not what we want. We don't want a game to compete with Gears or CoD. I ultimately feel like the game was "dumbed down" to accommodate a wider player base. I am sure this allowed them to see good sales numbers (which is what this is all about anyways), but if you create an amazing game you can still realize your sales goals (read RE4) without needing to "branch out" to a new player base.
RE6 will need to make some significant changes, but not in the normal forward-thinking way. RE6 needs to
revert back to the series roots, and back to the things that made the series successful.
Sorry for the wall of text...you can imagine that I am somewhat passionate about this subject, as I am sure most of you are as well.
