Your Personal RE Game Rankings

Considering how much it sold and also the fact that it was the only Resident Evil game ported to the N64, which is exactly how I first got into the series, I think it's safe to say many people became fans with RE2 in pretty much the same way Resident Evil 5 was many people's first after the success and critical acclaim of RE4. However, I don't know why anyone would claim to have started with the first. Resident Evil 2 certainly isn't my favorite game in the series, that goes to the first remake, but it's pretty commonly accepted that Resident Evil 2 is a much better game than the first one.

RE2 is plays exactly the same as re1 so it sound like you played the first one at the beginning and stoped. Then since people were saying resident evil is such a great game, you relented and gave the sequel a try. The sequel, which is the same exact thing the first one was. Another example of someone doing something because everyone else is doing it.

That is usually the case for many IPs, people "get into" the sequels because of it's predecessor's success or appeal.
Even if you think re2 is better than the first, re2 wasn't around to compare it with the first when people were noticing the original one. Hence why the original was their "first love". When I started playing resident evil, there was only the original one.
Besides re2 being better really depends on what's important to you in a game and what appealed to you when playing it. In some ways yes, in other ways, no.

I see this. As much as I love RE2, the original has a special charm for me that I can't ignore and to just say RE2 is better hands down would be very difficult. There are some wonderful things about the game, but I can't shake how watching my brother play the original and then later playing it myself for the first time made me feel. That very first experience with survival horror at a young age will always be special.
 
meiwow, I played it because my friend down the street had it, the PlayStation had just come out and I was trying different games (I asked if I could borrow it) RE2 felt different and it caught my interest, he didnt have it so I went to the store to buy the game that came in the fat 2 disc jewel box. In short, I gave the series another chance and it was a good decision.

I can beat RE1-4 without a guide, does that sound like someone who plays the series because someone else is doing it?? People where not talking about RE when I was getting into it, it was all Mortal Kombat and Diablo II. Don't know where you got the "Heard people say its good" from. Thats not how I got into the series.. sorry.

I like a lot of the games but I’m going to keep it simple and just go with the mains:

7, I like that the horror came roaring back but I don’t like first person in a RE game, the Baker family sucked and I have 0 interest in Ethan. I liked playing through the game once and I’m not saying it was total garbage or anything, I just didn’t like those things.

8 just went way out there…repeating myself from another thread, it’s just the furthest from Resident Evil imo than any other main game, it went in to ridiculous territory for me (though as I also said, I did like playing through once but the RE feel wasn’t there at all).

RE0 is far and away my most hated of all the entries. I can’t stand Rebecca but even putting that aside, the game was annoying, the enemies were terrible, the main villain was garbage, the areas were boring, the music was not good, Billy was not cool lol….i just hate everything about this game. I think the concept is good (doing a prequel game) but it was executed badly for me.


I didn’t look at all the lists but I reckon 6 is probably at the bottom or closer to the bottom on most lists and I’m not saying I hate 7 or 8, I just didn’t dig them that much and I played 6 more than once. It wasn’t an amazing game by any means, it was just ok for me, but I liked the characters in it and it wasn’t first person lol
 
Hah I also rank RE0 last on my list. When it was still a newer game, I remember being very uninterested in the game even as a tween and was one of those fans that wanted Capcom to revamp the series around that time. It’s really the only game in the series that I have zero interest in revisiting any time soon.

I’m the worst with lists because they fluctuate quite a bit for me. Sometimes my love for a game increases and bumps it higher on my list when I go and revisit the game.

Having finally completed RE9, my list goes something like this
(side note: I lump the remakes with the originals and tend to enjoy them slightly more than the originals so they’re referenced on the list in their place):

Alright, time to update my list after completing Requiem. After some consideration, it ended up at a solid 8th place, slightly above the OG from 1996 and slightly below RE4R. Another change since last time is that while still being a ****ty game near the absolute bottom of my list, RE3R has climbed above Village - Because I realized that Village is such a terrible game that can't even be enjoyed on replays, which RE3R actually can to some degree.
