To legalize or not to legalize...

Marijuana, it's a hot subject lately. What is YOUR opinion?

I personally believe it should be legalized, have you ever heard of someone becoming violent because they smoked a little green? No. Alcohol is way worse, but it's LEGAL. I say the government should tax the hell out of it and sell it. They'd make a profit and so would local mom and pop stores and "cafes" like they have in Amsterdam if they sold it in America.

Do I think people should smoke and drive? It should be the same as Alcohol... No you shouldn't unless you are a responsible individual and can control yourself. You should still get ticketed for being under the influence if driving while high.

Anyway, why SHOULDN'T it be legalized is my question. I am actually curious as to why it shouldn't be. I don't want an argument, but please post your opinions on this matter. That's why I posted this thread! :p

My opinion is drifting in between keeping it illegal and neutrality. Are there different types of marijuana? Some days ago this was brought up on TV and a former addict argued against legalization.

I don't care too much about the legal status of marijuana. I'm against letting teenagers drink booze but I had drinks before I was 18, and I think it was right that I did it.

Where's the circle? :p

Ahh this old chestnut, yeah i agree with legalising it, but as long as it has the same rules as alcohol ( even though most people don't follow those rules), but still, over 18 and not indoors, then I can't really see myself having any problems...

I say legalize it. Who cares what people choose to do in their spare time? Just like anything else that's already legal, recreational use isn't going to destroy you. It affects everyone differently and it's up to the individual to decide how to use it responsibly. We don't need a government that holds everyone's hand and says what they can or can't do in the privacy of their homes (except for where it harms others). The fact that it is illegal is ridiculous, but I also think there are much bigger issues that should be talked about before we get to legalizing pot. Doesn't matter which way the law points. After all, it's already everywhere, many cops look the other way, and people get laughed out of rehab clinics if they claim that they have an addiction. It's an easy habit to manage, it doesn't harm the body much, and it doesn't harm anyone else at all.

^When people like this are the spokesmen it makes it hard for others to agree with us. LOL My friend in highschool used to make horrible grades until he began to smoke pot... Then his D's went up to A's and B's. I find that very interesting, I guess the effects can do good for a lot of people, because I've heard of it helping people's grades on more than one occasion.

Legalize it...It wold solve a LOT of problems..

I mean hell...RIGHT before the UN gets together they should all get a massage and blaze up a doobie...Then we have world peace...
There should be special rules for the UN, that states they MUST have a pot circle before they make decisions about life and death. :p

But seriously: You're probably right that legalization would solve many problems. But are you sure it would not create new problems?

I have not tried pot, and I have never been around people who smoked it. So I am not the most qualified person to speak about this. I listen to what former pot addicts say, and they say don't legalize it. But I listen to other voices too, so I don't know.

I'm not against smoking it, I just don't want to smoke it legally.

I don't do it...I know lots of people that do...And, as stated earlier, it's like Alcohol, and MUST be regulated...You say pot addicts who have cleaned up their act say NOT to legalize it...But I'm sure many people who have recovered from alcohol issues would say the same...Really, alcohol is more dangerous, as you can drink to much and get alcohol poisoning, and so on and so forth...You cannot over dose on Marijuana...

Responsibility is the key here...

If alcohol was discovered today, do you think it would stay legal? I don't think it would. ;) But alcohol beverages goes centuries, if not thousands of years back, and our society is not willing to ban such a deep-rooted tradition. So we keep it legal and deal with the significant negative sides of it. I don't think we would if it was not already a strong tradition.

Actually, I'm from the United States...And for us, it was illegal...from 1919 to 1933...And if during the time there was much alcohol smuggling...And Marijuana, and drugs of every kind, are just as old, if not older, than alcohol...There was the Lotus flowers in Africa, stumbled upon by the ancient Greeks, Opium was used by the Ancient Hebrews in Biblical times...Among several others...Drug use is just as old a tradition as drinking...

I think the fact it is illegal is completely insane. Especially a plant. I don't smoke it but i don't see any good reason for it to be illegal. The war on drugs is bull****. Go back to the American Indians and learn some lessons.
Amen brother...Or hell...Listen to some Beatles music...They knew what they were talking about...Take a drag and All You Need is Love my man..

It's when people talk about being addicted to marijuana that kind of ercks me. Marijuana isn't a physical addiction, it's a mental addiction. Because of this, it is MUCH more favored as a pain suppressant than things like oxycodone (synthetic heroine). Cancer and AIDs patients use it to reduce nausea caused by other medications and allows them to eat and keep down food. It's been proven to cure chronic headaches and migraines.

I could list a thousand different reasons of why the legalization of marijuana would be a great idea. Both for medicinal and the every day uses of hemp. I am 100% for it's legalization.

I was just gonna say that. Anyway, if it's regulated I see no problem in it being legalized. If it's taxed heavily, like others said, governments could make quite a bit of money from marijuana.

I say just go ahead and legalize it already, I dare say it does less damage to families and people's personal lives than alcohol and less to your health than cigarettes. The only reason it probably isn't legalized right now is because the government hasn't found an efficient way to tax it and get their share. ('Cause that's what it's all about, don'tcha know.)

Apparently on the 20th of the 4th (420) its allowed. So that's once a year... Well I was told recently that a load of people smoke it up in Hyde park in London and police don't do anything but Im still unsure. Either way. National weed smoking day 420. So in theory it might already be legal for that one day. Might he worth searching on Wikipedia lol.

Doubt it though :[

Not Only That But Because Of The Paper Industry, Yes I Said Paper. You Can Make Paper From The Hemp Plant(Weed) And It Makes A Stronger Kind Of Paper And Rope But In The 1930's When The Paper Industry Was Getting Big They Ran A Smear Campaign Of Weed. Remember Reefer Madness?

Since what i say is law

Legalize it there are worse things you can buy
It being legalized likely isn't the issue. How the government will tax it is. It's an easily grown plant, and just getting a license to grow cannabis plants isn't effective. You can get much more than they do from the license. Even if they start selling it at pharmacies and what not, you can still illegally grow it. That means that the problem is likely the dealers, not the smokers.
