Russell's paradox,

What if all of this isn't real? What if.....what if we are all puppets and a baby seal is our puppet master??

Does the phrase "Right now I'm lieing to you" make any sense to you?
I never heard of it, but I'd assume by saying 'right now I'm lying to you' outside of a context or subject, you are actually saying 'right now I'm telling you the truth'.

I might have had a Captain Obvious moment, I don't know.

But he may be lying when he says he is lying, and he actually is lying.
If "I'm lying to you" is true, then it is true and what it says is the case; but what it says is that it is a lie, hence it is a lie.
On the other hand, if it is a lie, then what it says is not the case; thus, since it says that it is a lie, it must be true.

What happens if I go back in time and kill myself before I go back in time?

I like physics but i have only studied classical physics. I think Einstein's theories could help in such a question.

This reminds me of Plato, the ancient philosopher.

La Femme Fatale and Bruno got it right! Though I have to say I have a better understanding of the answer in my native language!

To sum it up it goes like this: If it is, it is not and if it is not, it is! Which makes the statement false either way.

This quote is a simpler version of the Russell's paradox, which in a non-mathematical way of speaking says the following:

"Suppose there is a town with just one male barber; and that every man in the town keeps himself clean-shaven: some by shaving themselves, some by attending the barber. It seems reasonable to imagine that the barber obeys the following rule: He shaves all and only those men in town who do not shave themselves.

Under this scenario, we can ask the following question: Does the barber shave himself?

Asking this, however, we discover that the situation presented is in fact impossible:

If the barber does not shave himself, he must abide by the rule and shave himself.
If he does shave himself, according to the rule he will not shave himself."

Okay, I'm not looking at the spoiler until after I write this post. The barber has no other choice but to shave himself, because he's the only barber in town and since everyone is clean cut that means he has to be shaved - not to mention the scenario states that all men either go to the one male barber or they shave themselves. He can't really charge himself for a hair-cut, that would be stupid. He'd just cut it himself, making the statement that "He shaves all and only those men in town who do not shave themselves" incorrect.

Edit:
Okay, I see the answer put alot more validity on the 'rule'. But, rules can always be broken... :p

That's one of my favorite sayings. :D
Of course it makes no sense.

I don't know, that's why it's so fun to say such an impossible statement!

So it's like a paradox some how? lol I dont understand what "Right now I'm lying to you" means.. it's like something you could say mid conversation lol

It's a meaningless thing which makes it funny. Bruno and Fallen sums it up in post #5 and #6.
