Resident Evil: Requiem

You mean, it’s now and anthology series. Everything was fine until they killed off Wesker. Now, every entry drops a new thread that is never tied up. It’s irritating, and it needs to stop.
I would rather have them focus on gameplay, characters, atmosphere, ect. per iteration, then to be extremely precise on threading an overarching plot needle. I mean modern gaming is showing lots of promise with diverse mechanics and gameplay but I noticed Resident Evil seems to be struggling to achieve some new breakthrough in survival horror concepts.

It’s been doing fine in all of those. Where it har lacked, always, has been story and character development.

Since some of you desperately want something else to talk about (you know who you are, lol), I have a theory. I touched on this earlier in my first trailer analysis, but upon closer inspection, it might actually have some weight.

That hallway woman towards the end of the trailer might seriously be Natalex. My first clue was the outfit when she’s walking down the hall, or should I say outfits.

Notice she’s wearing a sweater over a white outfit. The white outfit is very Alex and wearing a sweater over it is very Natalia. Am I the only one seeing a two in one kinda foreshadowing?

Also, the outfit Maggie Robertson wore during the promo at SGF where she teases a big reveal for later on in the show (that turned out to be the RE9 trailer) is (almost?) the same white outfit adult Alex wore in Rev2.

Is that some kind of a hint? Capcom’s been known to foreshadow big mic drop reveals, they also had the RPD in a type writer document in the teaser promo and low and behold, RE9 takes us back to the Raccoon City ruins and the destroyed RPD was heavily featured in the trailer. They also did this with RE5’s marketing, they showed Jill’s grave in the first trailer and shadow dropped the test tube woman in the 2nd’s closing that turned out to be Jill to the shock of nobody since they’d never kill a beloved character offscreen. I knew it was Jill, anybody with half a brain knew it.

Of course, enough time will have to have passed for Natalia to be an adult in flesh for this theory to hold water and, well, I’d say it has. Natalia was 10 during Rev2’s first chapter in 2011. We know now Requiem takes place in 2028, so she’d be 27 by the game’s time, not to mention it fits in perfectly with all the Connections stuff going on in the background. There might actually be more big revelations than the trailers have let on to this point, no pun intended.
Interesting you say should say that. People have been speculating about Natalia's involvement for a while now, especially after the one model posted about being in the game and looked like a dead ringer for an older Natalia. I found the Maggie Robertson stuff very odd, too. Especially how she's dressed like Alex.

But how Interesting that Dusk just made a series of tweets sharing stuff about the canceled Revelations 3 that he speculates have been reused in Requiem. There's definitely going to be more returning characters beyond just Leon, so it's very possible.

Also, I think I posted about this before, but there was another leaker by the name of The Resident Evil or something who had tweeted his excitement of RE9 some time before its announcement and said something along the lines of "you won't need Revelations 3 anymore." When I asked him what he meant by that, as I could only interpret it as meaning Alex's story would continue in 9, he said nothing but just liked my comment.

Also worth noting that Nakanishi himself has stated that several loose threads will be tied up in Requiem but not all, as he's basically already confirmed the Chris/BSAA story will not be followed up here.

See now, Revelations is an anthology series. The two entries have essentially nothing to do with each other, aside from a few offhanded comments of Natalia’s parents dying in Terragrigia and Neil having worked for Landsdale. Revelations 3, therefore, you would assume to be an all-new story with the flimsiest of connections to the previous two. So what a third game would have to do with Requiem is really out there. If they’re not gonna follow up on Chris’s story, or Rose’s, then they need to at least close the books on the Connections. Connecting the game into Raccoon City also suggests finishing up some kind of lingering Umbrella thread, and the only story that connects both of those story branches is Brandon Bailey. Natalia/Alex being out there but without a follow-up is one of the few stories in the series where not having a firm conclusion is actually better, because it’s more ominous that a Wesker is still out there.

They already confirmed that they are gunning for all new characters in this one. They appear to not be too using any legacy characters (in any major way), so you can rule Bailey and The Connections out, which means that they are starting fresh ONCE AGAIN and that is nothing new to the series.

Maybe in RE10 we will get the killer Blue Umbrella/Connections ultimate showdown many of us expected RE9 to be but this one appears to revolve solely around Grace Ashcroft and her personal story.

I am effectively training my brain to accept this one it's own terms so as to not disappoint myself with fan fiction and false expectations.

Well, again, Bailey technically is a new character, so that leaves room for his inclusion under those terms. Either way, it would be extremely odd, bordering on stupid, to have an entry so heavily focused on returning to Raccoon City, and yet be driven by a brand new stand-alone story while doing it.

Pretty sure Nakanishi himself confirmed the involvement of Raccoon City characters from different games, Alyssa being one of them. Yes, the game is setting new things ups, but it's also wrapping up old ones and attempting to please all sorts of fans. This isn't RE7 again, but they definitely aren't abandoning the fans they made there either.

Unless and until you have direct knowledge of what the game contains, you have no way of knowing what is or isn’t a lie, or who or what will or won’t be in this game other than what Capcom has already shown us. Not told us - shown us. Capcom has a history of deliberate misdirection in the lead up to RE games.

I dug a little deeper and it turns out the model’s name is Roya Athina and she actually tweeted a pic of her face render for the game (this might be breaching NDAs, but I digress).

I definitely see the Natalia resemblance.

On the other hand, her “playable characters” bit did give me pause since I highly doubt they’d make Natalex playable in any game she’s potentially in. Maybe a playable VHS section like Mia’s in RE7, but I even doubt that.

Oh, and being name-dropped in a file=/=returning character.

I haven’t seen or read anything like that. He’s said something about so many characters having experienced the horrors of Raccoon City but nothing to imply any specifically are involved.

He said it at Gamescom in the now deleted Biohazard France interview.

I saw that, I didn’t read into it tbh. It’s another one of those quotes that just as easily lines up with what we already know anyway as it is to branch off theories and conspiracies of "slipping up" (sick of hearing that dumb phrase).

It's clear confirmation from the director himself that the story has characters that were involved with Raccoon City, Outbreak, and so on. That implies much more than just Alyssa. Also worth noting that his own personal translator didn't repeat any of this and of course, the interview was pulled.

It’s all too general and inexact to me, which just leaves fans filling in blanks with their own speculation. What he said lines up with what we know, Alyssa is in the trailer, she’s a character from Outbreak/Raccoon City. Will there be more? Probably, but this interview doesn’t confirm that.

He said you don’t need to go play Outbreak, specifically Outbreak, but I don’t assume then that Outbreak’s the only game this pulls from.
