Good points. I wouldn’t be upset at all if they went this route. It would make for interesting storytelling to have both Weskers alive for the next installments and it really isn’t a bad idea like going with “hey RE5’s Wesker was just a clone” or going with some other new mad scientist villain for the next game. It’s actully the perfect setup and would make the seemingly complete change in direction of RE7 forgivable if they actually go this route with the story- or at least bring Ada into the next game so we can start piecing the events of RE7 all together with the rest of the series.
I haven’t played through Umbrella Corps. yet but doesn’t that game take place during different timeframes? Like during RE4 and even Code Veronica? So to say that he is alive because of that game doesn’t make sense to me because Wesker was involved in those games to some capacity.
It's set in 2012/2013, around the same time as RE6/Rev2. It features quarantined locations from past games, including a reconstructed Raccoon City, oddly enough. The village from RE4 is also featured, which has "implications" in and of itself. You basically collect journal entries from an anonymous "commander" as you progress through each stage, collecting samples and destroying B.O.W.s and the like. As this Rely On Horror article points out, the in-game anecdotes clearly point to Wesker. The only other logical "culprit" would be a whole new mad scientist/researcher character who was secretly there during RE4.
Plus, like I said time and time again, Jill's still suffering from PTSD, so that would make her the perfect test subject for whatever fear-based virus Natalex is cooking up next, just sayin'. Throw in the whole Umbrella Corps storyline ('Blue' Umbrella that Chris is working with is on the side of good while 'Red' Umbrella/Umbrella Co. is still evil apparently), Raymond/Jessica cliffhanger from Rev1, another Wesker on the loose, Jill's e-mail to Barry and her RE5 backstory (which, by itself, would allow fans to see Wesker again even in a non-physical form/flashbacks) and you have all the ingredients for Jill's next big adventure. You could even get creative and have Jill/Claire deal with Natalex while Ada goes to collect leads on THE Wesker possibly being alive and even Umbrella Co. themselves as part of her secret mission at the end of RE6 all in the same game (and who better for that than Capcom's Resident spy, no pun intended?).
Of course, the narrative would be just too perfect for the next installment, spin-off or otherwise, so of course Capcom probably won't run with it.
