Question about mutations

the virus alters the host in an atempet to keep it goinga still living host will have still active survile trigers to deal with injuries it gained over generations of a blood line the viurs just speeds it up massivle

It seems like enemies such as Mr. X and Nemesis only mutate after they have sustained mortal wounds. Mr X in RE2 only mutates when he falls into the lava. The lava mortally wounded him which caused the mutation. Nemesis mutates after he falls into the fire at the Clock Tower in RE3. Other enemies, such as Salazar and Krauser can control their parasites so they can mutate at will.

I'm not sure if Salazar really mutates himself per se- he merges with the second Verdugo and that weird plant like structure (it's never really explained what that thing is), and the end result is essentially a two sided enemy- the second Verdugo becomes like a giant dragon head that can eat you in one swipe, but Salazar himself remains essentially human and completely useless- he just hides in the bud structure and makes sarcastic comments during the fight.

They have Control Plagas and are not just mindless puppets of Saddler and his Master Plaga. Hosts to Control Plagas can also exert influence over regular Ganados.
