New System is Causing Havok

Anyway, what I can do which will take me a while but it's the best compromise I can manage right now is get a list of all the thread titles that are missing (fanfics not included because they aren't discussions - repost your fanfics instead) to jog some memories as to what can be posted about. Then people can either make new threads with those titles to get things going again or I can manually search for the first post in each of those missing threads to kick start you off - whichever you prefer.

Will that be a start, do you think? These are going to be very difficult to track down and there is a possibility it won't be something that can be done but I think it's worth a try. I'll let you know if it's successful or not so fingers crossed it'll work and we'll get some threads back again :)

I'll first and foremost see if some of my own topics are missing, I always save a link to topics I create. Some threads are not important, but I'll list every missing thread because it'll tell us something about the size of the problem.
A couple starting dates may be wrong. They are the timestamp on my internet bookmarks.

My missing topics in Resident Evil 4 forum:

1) Questions on ch. 4-4 Tower. High value discussion.
Started Nov. 20, 2010.
2) Las Plagas and other life forms. High value discussion.
Started Nov. 24, 2010.

I've made 10 topics in Resident Evil 4 forum. 2 are lost.
LOSS: 20 %.


My missing topics in General Discussion (Raccoon Police Department):

1) Million Dollar Baby. About the movie. Not as important as other missing threads.
Started Sept. 4, 2010.
2) What are you thinking. Not important.
Started Okt. 14, 2010.
3) FlameX' birthday. Unimportant now.
Started Okt. 19, 2010.
4) Romero went nuts, went shopping, need ur help. Games.. Discussion on various games. Average importance.
Started Nov. 6, 2010.
5) What are you watching – Discuss TV programmes. Not important.
Started Nov. 22, 2010.
6) Guys, please do us all a favour. I asked everyone who received ads for other forums via PM to report it. It's not hard to make a new thread if necessary.

5) Invisible image posted - what the heck!. Unimportant now.
Started Jun. 8, 2009.
6) Unable to add cookies, header already sent.. Unimportant now.
Started Dec. 22, 2010.
7) Rep system - do you got a "Posted By" column?. Unimportant now.
Started Feb. 22, 2011.

I've made 11 topis in Feedback. 7 are lost.
LOSS: 63.6 %.


It seems we have lost half the forum, give or take some percents. It is much worse than I feared. *_*

I'm sure it'll be fixed in time. In the big picture this is not a problem so I assume it's a bit down on the priority list.

But when all important issues are sorted out, I hope that we can have all our old emoticons back, then there will be at least one thing that stays the same. I've seen many different styles, but the style we had here was the one I liked most of all. Everything is new here, having something old and familiar would be nice IMO.

I'm still looking into the "missing topics" problem, but it is very likely that they will be unrecoverable. The "lol" smilie, however, will return. Unless you lot would much rather we keep the newer set of smilies.

I personally like the old smilies better, not just because it had more variety but they weren't gender biased :p, but i'm sure this is the least of your problems :lol: :p:cool:

Unless there are plans to add more smilies to our current selection I'm a go for the old ones

How much help have you got from XenForo Limited? They should be able to fix this if they assign enough resources to the task. If I owned a forum and experienced the same, I would file legal damages action against them. Because this is not just some lost threads, it seems to be somewhere between 30 and 60 % of the content. It will take us years to make up for the loss with new content. Years!

Is it possible to restore the backup on a separate location that will not be a forum where we can post, but work as a library running the old software? It would be fair that XenForo Limited paid for this, but the content is so valuable that I personally would be more than willing to cover part of the extra cost if necessary. I feel like I've lost my soul and I would pay an arm and a leg to get it back.
 
Ah well, life moves on.

But 50% of the threads? Thats a little much. Some of those threads were nice. Im still hoping for a REvelations forums though to make me happy.
