Creepiness can be achieved without the camera angles. Dead Space has proven that. We'd have to go back to the old third-person shooter functions for the classic camera angles to work -though they would be nice for a change of pace.
Mainstream prefers the over-the-shoulder, however, and Capcom first and foremost is about the money. Games have become big a way they never anticipated when they made the series. It'll die if it caters to much to hardcore fans such as ourselves. They have to make survival horror appealing to general audiences to go back to what made Resident Evil Resident Evil. Since most of the gamers (let's be realistic) are rambunctious pre-teens who get their parents to unwittingly buy them games they have no business playing -survival horror doesn't appeal to most of them compared to action games like Halo or Left 4 Dead. Aside from that, there's also just an overwhelming amount of gamers who're only interested in shooters and MMORPG's. Not many gamers even play the classic genres anymore. Racing, fighting, RPG's, etc. don't have anywhere near the numbers first-person shooters and action games have now. People played Dead Space 2 for about a month, beat it, and went back to Halo. For whatever reason survival horror just isn't big anymore. Capcom has a big challenge ahead of it if it wants to change that.
