It brings a tear to my eye. . .

Okay, well, I was watching an episode of 'Angel'(not Twilight, because I think it stinks. BWA HA HA), see, and it was the episode 'I Will Remember You', in which Angel becomes human and then he and Buffy are all, y'know this:  with some of this:  and a lotta this: . And it's beautiful and lovely and everything but it ends in typical angsty fashion with Angel turning back time because he realizes being a vampire is his best calling.
The end scene where he tells Buffy this was written incredibly well, IMO, and is just a tear-jerker in every way.

Well, as a writer, it got me thinking about how well that scene was written; how well the emotions were conveyed, how the lines were so simple and yet poignant. So I wondered 'Can I ever write something that will evoke that much emotion from someone'? Which then got me thinking that I don't think I have ever personally read a book that made me emotional, either in a 'laughing-out-loud' sort of way, or in a 'brings-me-to-tears' sort of way. Maybe I just read crappy books?

So it made me wonder if any of you guys have ever read a (fictional)book(or even a story on FictionPress.com or a fanfic) that evoked such a response from you that you never forgot it. Laughter, despair, sadness? And if it did, what book was it, and just how did it affect you? Was it the way it was written, the characters, or just the scenario?
As a writer (one who rots, but tries, lol), I'm really curious about what moves people. I want to know how to touch base with readers.

I realize girls are probably more likely to have this sort of response, us being the more emotional of the two genders, but I'm curious to hear from anyone.

ohh im a big buffy and angel fan, that is the saddest angel episode lol, anyways back on topic i havent read any books that have made me emotional id say the only book that got me a bit of emotion from me was New moon and i know alot of ppl dont like the twilight saga, but new moon had its way of making me angry to making me sad, because mostly of the two main characters in the stories, and how their lives became affected due to the other character's actions

I've never really cried from reading a book or watching a movie or anything like that, but there are a few scenes from 'Phantom' by Susan Kay that have made me come close to tears. It's been a long while since I've read it, but the part where his mother refuses to kiss him, and then where he gets mad at Christine for wanting to kill the spider because it was ugly... those definitely made me choke up. I think both of them had one of 'those lines' that just sum the whole scene up so eloquently and perfectly, and it kind of represents a 'universal' theme that you can identify with and relate anything to. I hope that makes sense, aha.

Ooh, I love "those lines" because they are just so perfect! Makes me jealous, lol. I am wracking my brain but still can't think of a book that has evoked much response in me. But I like a lot of books. I guess I'm just a brick or something. :(

And yay, dark_zero! Another Angel fan! He's the only vampire I like. :D

ohh i like him and i like spike lol, theres one show thats writing that gets me sad is soap operas lol, even tho its not real sometimes they will put real life situations in the script and the way the actors potray the scene, make it seem very real to me

There was an X-Files episode I cried at, its in the very first series (I need to re-watch that.. I love it.) and its called "Beyond the Sea". Scully's Dad dies, and the words "He was your father." are used a lot and it always makes me cry :(.

I cried at The Time Traveler's Wife a couple of times. The way the author wrote it felt like I really got to know Clare and Henry so when things were bad for them it was bad for me too. The ending was just.. perfect. I hope the film is as good, I just discovered its coming out soon.

Same as me.
I, in my mind, with how Jacob and Bella acted when Edward left, was constantly screaming in anger! I mean, Bella, three chapters ago, you were saying how you can't live without Edward!

I have felt sad on one or two occasions on watching films and reading books (Gran Torino and Harry Potter And The Half Blood Prince respectively). The former because you get so attached to this elderly war veteran, you share him dying and to see the character you have grown so fond of be shot to death is upsetting.

The latter because we basically hear how Dumbledore has taken Harry in, like a son, and for him to be struck down (Only for the reason to be revealed in the next book) is, again, very upsetting.

Sorry for the double post =(
Dammed internet.

If a mod sees this, could you please delete the post before please =)

i know wut you mean about the jacob and bella part too, that irrated me for a while

Well the only movie that has made me cry it was this movie in Spanish that I forgot the name, that in the end the little girl's stepfather kills her, It was really touching tho.

Oh! That sounds terrible! :( I trust there is more too it that makes it touching, lol.

Now that I think on it, I guess I did feel pretty sad when I wrapped up Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. So many characters dying, and such an epical battle taking place. I bet that will translate into some sad scenes for these last two movies.

Well for movies i'm never really that emotionally effected, the only time i cry is when i'm laughing my ass off lol.I just try to make everything in a movie seem funny as possible, the daunting drama stuff is even better because everyones seems so fricken serious hahaha.

I guess a few years back though i was a bit more on the serious side, i remember watching City of God for the first time and that was epic. Its held in Rio De Janerios slums. When the gang controlling the slums find out the streetrat kids are holding up there shops they find the group of kids, get 2 of them and force a kid on the main gangs side to shoot one of them.Once he(reluctantly) kills him hes praised and they they say to the other kid"which hand do you want a bullet in?Foot or the hand?"He pulls out his hand and they shoot him in the foot and make him walk off.Based off a true story fricken insane movie.

As for books i didn't know a book could make me laugh until i read don't stand to close to a naked man.Hahaha its possibly the only novel i read through, it doesn't really have anything to do with the title but its funny.By Tim Allen(AKA buzz lightyear).
