I need everyone to do me a favor. Read through this entire thread and sign a petition for me.

If you don't know already, the U.S. Government is trying to pass the Protect IP Act. What will happen is that if it passes it's going to cause Internet Censorship. If you live in the U.S. basically what this bill does is that you won't be able to upload, view, watch, or listen to copyrighted songs, videos, movies, content, or anything else. If you are caught doing any of this just 1 time you'll get fined, jailed, and it will be considered a felony which means that you won't get or job, or lose your job if you have one, and it dosen't even define what is fair use. Basically it's going to ruin the economy, it's going to ruin businesses and industries, it's going to shut down websites (Like Youtube, Facebook, Twitter, etc., etc.), and people are going to lose their jobs.

It's also going to censore the entire internet. So lets say this bill does pass and lets say that I go to Google and I type in "ResidentEvilNews.com", this site and all other sites that are Resident Evil based will not show up and I won't be able to get back on here as well as some other members who live in the U.S.

Now lets say that I live in the UK and lets say that the bill does pass and lets say that I do search for Youtube and it's not there or I can't access it and it's becaues it was shut down.

Pretty much people's lives are going to ruined and it's going to ruin the economy even more, which is already tanking, and it's not going to be the fault of the citizens. It's already the MPAA and the Music Industries fault they are not getting money and now they want people to suffer because they are so greedy and so irresponsible. And it's also the fault of Government because not only do they understand how the Internet work, but they are also being bribed to pass it. They are violating rights as citizens.

I do understand that there have been many problems with Copyright Infrengement, but the Protect IP bill is not the correct way to fix that problem.

Here is what I want everyone to do. I need everyone to go to the link that I provide and I need everyone to sign the petition. What will happen is that Ron Wyde is in a filibuster and the more people who sign the petition the higer the chance he has to completely kill the bill, and yes he actually does read the petition. So please do sign this petition. If you don't live in the U.S., you can sign the petition and it will still go towards helping.

I will highly appreciate if everyone can sign it. It will help a lot.

NOTE: I did get permission from La Femme Fatale to post the link to the petition.

Signed.God i hate politics..every last one of these stupid pricks. They don't know how to solve problems, they never did, they are not trained too do it.Well to be fair Ron Paul is so far partly the only exception i have ever seen.

If it did happen alot of people would be ****ed off..it would hit strongly with the internet hack groups(anonymous, lulsec),occupy movement and general ****ed off citizens...it would just strengthen numbers. I'd probably say 'Shame on the people who would simply bow down and accept this retarded bull****' but i guess its not there fault. So long as people want to accept manipulation from a system or another thats what we will get.

I haven't read the whole act but I think you're exaggerating on some parts.

It's also going to censore the entire internet. So lets this bill does pass and lets say that I go to Google and I type in "ResidentEvilNews.com", this site and all other sites that are Resident Evil based will not show up and I won't be able to get back on here as well as some other members who live in the U.S.

ResidentEvilNews.com is by no means a site that sells any kind of copy-righted product. In fact it's even said in the rules that discussions of illegals activites are not welcomed here. Hence it's not going to get in that blacklist.

As for youtube, I don't know how strong the blow will be on its income but I'm almost sure it's not going to shut down. All top viewed videos are uploaded by their own owners. Any piratical video that gets too many views is already being taken down for copyright reasons

Not to mention that Youtube is not responsible for the content that its users upload.

I will sign this, I would hate to see the US pass laws that brings it closer to what China and Iran are. You have to fight for your freedom, even in a Western democracy. Where are we going?

I find it strange and ironic that they have named the act "Protect IP". It could have been an act that strengthened privacy.

If the act passes, the US should be cut out of the Internet, and Americans should move to Canada or any other free country. *Insert pinch emoticon here*

But I wouldn't worry about REN, we are not going to be affected regardless of the outcome, at least not in a direct way.

Btw Major, I appreciate that you are using paragraphs. ;)

About time.
LOL! I partly support that, except I would miss Youtube.

#1 - ResidentEvilNews.com is still going to be censored. If a website has a name, tag, or description of something that is copyrighted then it's censored. It dosen't matter if it's selling something or not, if it contains anything even just the littlest thing then it's automatically censored.

#2 - Youtube most likely going to shut down if it passes. I remember that somewhere, I can't remeber where, that it will shut down if the bill passes.

True Romero, You tube however is a far cry from what it used to be. I remember the early years.

Now it's mainly just full of.

Damn nature your scary whenever there is a vid to do with nature.

Atheists and Creationists slug it out ( partly because they both need to get a life and come out from their basements )

loads of '' my daddy is bigger than your daddy '' comments.

you then have tons of videos that don't even show what they display on their thumbnails or titles.

then there are the likes of SXEPHIL, who is an utter ass-nozzle. And just about everyone who is in the top 50 channels list all has the same format.

then of course... there is the Trolls.

You tube is nothing more than a Cyber Circus for freaks.

Twitter and facebook shutting down ? Who cares, at the very least it'll get everybody off their asses.

The internet is not rocket science.. People either want to control it or destroy it.

There is one thing i'd like to say though.

They best censor the illegal and extreme porn, before they even go anywhere near the other sites.

I don't bother reading Youtube comments anymore because most people there never have anything of any intellectual value to say... but my biggest issue with Youtube now is the advertisements. I hate having to watch a 30 second ad for a minute and a half-video. Sucks bollocks.
Especially if you are listening to someone's Play list... Every second song starts with the same ADVERT grrrrrr :@

What would happen to Pandora?
I use that site to find new music and then buy the CD if I like it enough.

Videos on Youtube containing ads? I have never seen that.
What bothers me most about Youtube, is that companies like UMG (or was it VMG?) and other music/video owners are taking over Youtube. I too often are not allowed to watch a video because I don't live in the right country. And I also don't like that many videos can not be embedded in forums.
And I don't like their policy, removing videos based on content not copyright issues.

You people can say what you want.. I'll still belong to the 8% of people that listens to REAL music.. like me if you agree! :p :p

Even if that was the case (which I doubt it is), take a look at the end of the fourth paragraph of the bill summary posted on that link you provided:

For an order to issue, the Justice Department must also show that the Internet site is directed at U.S. consumers and harms holders of U.S. IntellectualProperty. The Department would be required to serve notice of the action promptly after filing

Unless I got something wrong, this means that they won't file anything against RE sites because RE belongs to Capcom which is a japanese company not american.

As for youtube you'd better bring a link or something because I don't think you're being too persuative that way.

That being said, I'll probably sign this in the near future. Putting barriers on the internet is scary. God knows what the U.S government is going to censor with the excuse of copyright infringement.

You tube is nothing more than a Cyber Circus for freaks.

Really now? Youtube, facebook e.t.c are just tools. It's up to the people to use them in a productive or a non-productive way.

Fallen.........that's my point. It's been swarmed by clowns.

#1 - I took another look through the summary. There was one thing you did miss. Down at the bottom were a list of companies that supported Bill S.3804, which is part of the Protect IP Act. Two of the supported companies were Sony and Nintendo. That means that countries around the globe are going to get involved with the bill and if it passes then that statement is going to change from U.S. intellectual property to any intellectual property. There were other names of companies, but I'm not going to bother look up what country of origin they are from because they are to many.

#2 - I did find where it did say that some websites would be shut down. I did make a little mistake. It said that they could be shut down. For proof all you have to do is go back to the link and click home. It should say "URGENT ACTION NEEDED: New internet blacklist bill could shut down Twitter And Youtube!" in it should be underlined.

Also please don't call me a liar again. I never lie during these certain kinds of situations.

UPDATE: Protect IP now has a high chance of being killed. Over 700,000 signatures have been collected.. Among two of the people who spoke out against internet censorship were Democratic leader, Nancy Pelosi, and repubican leader, Darrell Issa. If more people can sign the petition then the bill is more than likely going to be killed.

First things first. I never called you a liar on purpose. In fact I didn't even use that world. What I actually wanted to say is that people make hasty decisions, which are based on false information most of the time. Of all these 700,000 people I'm almost sure few took the time to actually read the original summary of the act before signing. Instead they only read for example that line you mentioned above about youtube and they quickly jumped to the conclusion "Omg! The act is going to shut down youtube! Let's vote against it asap!". They didn't even think why it's a barrier for youtube or if the economical damage is actually big enough to shut it down. Ι mentioned in my first post why I don't believe the blow will be huge.

Now, even though I did say that signing against it seems to be the best option here I still want to reasearch this before doing so because a) It won't always be the case. The internet is full of crap most of the times. b) I don't want to make a right choice for the wrong reasons.

How can a buch of foreign companies represent whole countries? And why would the US government care about foreign intellectual property? It seems to me that sites that give away illegally american copyrighted material to americans also give away to them copyrighted materials from other countries. They don't discriminate. Nintendo and Sony will make profit from all this.

You know, I'm going to stop arguing with you because that's all you basically want to do. Arguing with you is like arguing with a person who don't know what words are. Just drop it because you're just trying to p*** me off. You're trying to make me look like I'm stupid and trying to get people to sign the petition to save Youtube, when really it's for the economy, and that's basically your problem, you're too prejudice, assuming stuff when before actually haveing knowledge. If all you want to do is argue take it someplace else. Leave me alone and stop arguing with me about something that you don't understand.

Just drop it because you're just trying to p*** me off. If all you want to do is argue take it someplace else. You not making any sense at all. Just leave me alone.

Hmmmmm... ok

I think here must be a misunderstanding, I don't see anything offending from Fallen in this topic. In fact I think he made valid and well founded arguments. He didn't call you a liar and that he wants to take a closer look at the act before he sign against it just proves that he is acting very responsible. I'm sure he didn't intend to offend, he's not the kind of person who does that.

Some of us like to read through things before we agree to it, I myself for instance, skim read through the End User License Agreement for all software I install. Most people never read EULA, they just click to proceed.
I did not do any research on this Oppose Protect IP Act thing, I just read your post, took a brief look at the info provided on that website and then I signed it. Other people might want to read the Protect IP Act before they sign against it.

It's good that neither of you wants to argue about this, because I'm not going to allow it.
