Holy crap! This is horrible and our provincial government reduced budget and saying it's too big. What a load of bull****! The military is there, they got a lot of jets, and helicopters, firemen from out of town. It's absolutely horrifying.

My dad took these pictures since he works up there as a safety inspector, keep in mind this is when the fire just started.

That's then, he had to go up North and 80'000 people were evacuated. This is what it's like now.

This is so terrible. Thankfully, I haven't read about any human casualties or injuries yet. So many people will have lost their homes, it's horrible.

I'm in Edmonton so its a good 5 or so hours. I'll be safe, but it's just going to for a good while. Especially since the NDP practically called it a "lost cause". It's hard to believe but that's what I've heard. I don't know if it's true though.

I was gonna say something about this earlier, but I really don't know what to say. I can't believe the whole city is burning. How are they gonna get it under control? How did it even start?

I've heard a few people say it. I think it's more on the notion she's not taking it as seriously as she should, and she dropped funding a little bit back on fire protection. She pretty much said it was a waste of money then and wasn't worth it. Well not really, but it was implied through her actions. To put it more appropriately.

I talked to my mom about an hour and a half ago and she told me that my dad got off the phone with family friends who are in Washington D.C. apparently they are freaking out. So there is potential that we may be getting some American aid in a bit. Some Americans are freaking out under the notion that it's burning up all the oil... which it's not.

So I don't mean to offend anyone and I'm not trying to make a statement on anyone's beliefs or anything - I'm just speaking out of frustration because this is escalating and while many thousands of people are working hard to abate the fires, the dry weather, high winds and no rain are making it extremely difficult to control the situation... but it is times like these that remind me precisely of why I can never, ever bring myself to believe in a God who knows and controls everything. I see lots of prayers being sent to Alberta, and yet for a God who is supposedly 'good' and all powerful - not a single drop of rain in sight.

None taken xD I'm not a religious person either, but I can't give you a "like" either for one reason. If there is a God... why would it be his responsibility to correct human error when we have free will? When we have the choice of our own actions/ The world preaches about responsibility, yet they won't even take any as a global collective. While I'm not sure if the wildfires were started by the sun (naturally) or human error. Rather we, as an individual make this mistakes or not. Those in power, or, at least a majority of people decide that it's ok the hurt the environment. It is human nature to only care about the here and now, without thinking about the future. I mean, the logic is... We won't be alive. So why should we even care in the first place (When we really should care).
I most definitely don't believe in the apocalypse/armageddon. That is just a load of fear porn imho and I also highly doubt god caused floods, famine, and/or mass dieses. To me that's all bull****.

Besides, in addition to our own responsibilities. The universe is far to large to deal with one piece of dust in the corner of it. Especially a planet where war exists amongst themselves and people stave without reasonable cause. On the grand scheme of things, it's stupid. It only makes sense if we look at ourselves as if we are ant sized. The real armageddon will be caused by economic reasons, and failure to respond to a threat imho. People don't work for free, and it would ****ing suck if we got hit by a solar flare or an asteroid that we can't financially respond to. Or just suffocate ourselves with pollution instead of, oh you know, take the Mars expedition a little more seriously. A few hundred billion or so more dollars isn't very much as far as human survival is concerned.

Of course all of this is my personal belief on things. No gods or aliens need to even be brought up in the reality of this bull****, and sorry if I come out a little rough on it. It's a subject that rather... makes me mad and embarrassed with humanity when I think about it.

Totally not my intent to start a lengthy dialogue about "free will" and honestly I couldn't care less. I was just trying to express how hopeless I feel - Fort McMurray desperately needs rain right now and I'm not sure what or who else to lobby to in order to make that happen this very moment.

I agree wholeheartedly. Don't give up hope though, someone will do something about it. They have to.
What's the latest on the situation? I've not seen much coverage in the UK news about it.

As if people didn't have enough to worry about with the fire and all the things some had lost, somebody apparently thought it would be okay to be looting buildings, and of course right after the police said it wasn't a problem. What is wrong with some people!?

I feel like looting is the least of everyone's worries - it would be for me. If I was in that situation and I was one of the few lucky ones who didn't have to rebuild my entire life from scratch, I really wouldn't be that concerned if my home was looted for valuables (presumingly). It'd be covered by insurance anyway.

So I have a friend that thinks the fire will come down and spread into Edmonton..... wtf?! It's 4-5 hours away. It would need to be the largest wild fire in the history of mankind to do that. Such a dumb thought. There are people that actually think a new fire will start in Edmonton and burn the city down. Such a dumb thought.

Yeah it's really bad, and Edmonton was filled with smoke and smog all day! It was crazy, but it did rain, and it rained hardcore! It pretty much never rains like this here, if ever. This was almost Florida bad. Okay... maybe a half of that? Florida is ridiculous xD You're pretty much soaked in seconds. No seriously. I like rain, or used to. I HATED RAIN IN FLORIDA AND MEXICO!

As for a conspiracy. A person who claimed to be ISIS tried to take the blame for it. I believe he was called out as a liar though. I think they figured our that it was started naturally. Though I think it could be possible that someone threw their cigarette out.
