Do you like short games?

Wow, animosity xD

I don't like short games, generally I like a nice long and detailed storyline, a game with it's own mythos basically, with interesting characters, good gameplay, lots of towns/villages and a world map to travel. Basically anything that's Final Fantasy or similar. RE also, because these games are just badass :p

If you've ever played any of the Tales games, I recommend them. Tales of Symphonia and Tales of Vesperia are, in my opinion, some of the best JRPG's ever.

True that

Definitely badass, no questions about it :)

@Rita Mordio - i was actually tempted to play those, but a friend of mine dissuaded me saying that if I like long lasting games with decent game mechanics (e.g. i love customization and maxing out my characters) then those games wouldn't be my style. i did the ignorant thing and took it as gospel lol, are they pretty decent aye?

One reason i prefer shorter games, <10 hours, because:
1.I tend to replay it more often if it's fun. The shorter & fun it is the more i replay, JUST FOR FUN! I hardly replay long games.
2.I tend to forget about the game if it gets too long. Too many running arounds, Too many side quests (repetitive) etc, man few months after playing i couldn't remember much detail about those games because they dragged it so long.
3.Usually long games takes me much more time to complete, usually between 1-3months. So when i continue the game after a week or 2 not playing, i kinda forgot what happened before the save points.

Yes i have a bad memory bank...

I know exactly what you mean. While I love my long rpgs with a detailed story and all that, there are hardly any that I complete. Short games, especially of the retro variety have fun and fast gameplay and always lift the mood. I can't tell you how many times I've finished all my Megadrive favourites. Even my favourite rpgs I have never finished more than 5 times.

I thought I replied to this, but apparently I didn't. Anyway, the customization is mainly just equipment, and maxing out can be somewhat of a problem since enemies do not scale. The battle system is amazing though, and the sheer amount of content in the game is insane. The minigames will keep you occupied for several hours. However, they don't come in until a little later. If I remember it was 20-25 hours in, about halfway into the game.

You had me at customisable equipment! :p

Sounds pretty good though, what did you mean that enemies don't scale?

Equipment is just changing what people are using, but weapons actually have a visual difference, and there are a few different outfits that start getting unlocked around 30 hours in. And by enemies don't scale, I mean like a Dragon Age and Skyrim thing. Enemies stay your level or, if they're meant to be weak, a few levels below your level. Basically, enemies don't level up with you, so grinding is harder.
Edit: Oh, also, the party has a bunch of different combinations. You can develop tactics with micromanagement, develop entire strategies with different members of the party, and a bunch of different things. I'm just gonna tell you now, around 10 hours in you'll be unable to choose who you want in your party. Except Mordio. Mordio is the only required part of a good party.

Ahh right that's cool, I love enemy grinding after a first playthrough, but it's not the end of the world that it's not really useful in these games, other parts always redeem themselves in RPGs :)

10 hours in, does it choose who will be in your party and then leave you like that, or do you choose who you want and then not be able to change it?

I myself am only around 17 hours in, but you can choose who you want in your party whenever. It's just the sheer amount of playstyles available simply by changing one character. For example, a character named Raven is literally every possible role in the game. He can't do them all effectively, but if you enjoy micromanagement, you can have him creating altered spells suited to the playstyle you want him to assume. I prefer him as an elemental warrior, but he can also take the position of a healing warrior, long distance tank, and limitless others.

It's quite linear, and to my knowledge only has one ending, so I'm assuming the story is good to the end. The story itself is kind of confusing to explain. A girl named Estelle is trying to find a guy named Flynn, and a guy named Yuri is escorting her for his own reasons and to help her. There is this stuff called Blastia and it runs the world pretty much. A mage called Mordio apparently stole a Blastia from Yuri's home and it's flooding, so he sets off to find it. I should also mention that Yuri and Estelle are on the run from the imperial guard. Yuri for jailbreak, Estelle for leaving the castle without permission and a proper escort. Right there is the basic synopsis, and if I said anymore I would be spoiling it. I will say this- around 10 hours in, the story takes a big turn. It is constantly changing, and normally for the better.

Ah well sounds better than most games out nowadays, i'm sick of shooters, much prefer RPGs.

Thanks for the advice :D

I'm slowly starting to get in to both.

Yeah, i know many people are accusing RE of becoming a shooter, and I suppose the aspect of having lots of enemies and automatics agrees with that, but I love it, just don't like COD.

RPGs have a place in my heart because I LOVE Final Fantasy, played them all many times and mastered all mini-games etc. just so much content that makes it worth the money.

Through that door, is a seperate reality.

I don't like war shooters. I like crap like gears of war, and RE ORC. I dont like medal of honor, COD, etc, etc. Because ITS THE SAME THING! like seriously. I have COD two. and I don't plan to get a different one because all it is, is Run run run, shoot, run, run Shoot, go find a medic, shoot, wheres that sniper rifle?, shoot. I'm mean seriously.

I know, i played Medal of Honour once, was ok, but I hate the likes of war games. Although saying that, I like Command and Conquer etc, because obviously you have to strategise rather than just plain blastjng people to death.

Gears of war is awesome, because EACH game has its own unique story line. And the enemys are hardcore. (I mean come on! can you get swallowed by a worm 10x larger than a T-rex, go to its heart, cut out its artaries, and take a swim in blood, in COD?)
