I just downloaded and started playing the Devil May Cry 4 Special Edition on PSN about a week ago. After being reminded of how friggin' awesome this game is (like every DMC sans DMC2 and the reboot, DmC), I surfed around on the web and found a couple of interesting new developments Capcom put in the SE of the game that may be hinting towards Devil May Cry 5 happening sooner than we might think.
For one, Capcom is in a much better state financially for making new AAA games (which will only further improve with their upcoming releases, both old and new) and are finally starting to listen to their fans. The proof is in the pudding with their discontinuing of on-disc DLC for Street Fighter V, caving into the fans' desires with a much-anticipated remake of RE2 rebuilt from the ground-up and their supposedly going back to the survival horror roots in the upcoming RE7 which fans have wanted for years.
Now, all signs point to them giving the fans what they want with regards to the DMC series. They know fans hated the reboot (DmC) and want to see a DMC5 featuring the original cast, not DmC2.
After all, they already teased DMC5 in the ending to the DMC4SE on Heaven or Hell Mode:
This was NOT in the original release's ending in HoH Mode, meaning there were no immediate plans for a sequel when it was first released. The second line, "See You Next Devil May Cry" in the HD remaster's HoH ending 7 years later is fairly telling. Moreover, the writing is pretty much already on the wall after the introduction of Nero.
For those of you not in the know, Nero (the main protagonist from DMC4) is actually Vergil, not Dante,'s son. This is confirmed by the Graphic Art 3142 artbook, a Capcom employee during localization and a new cutscene in DMC4SE:
But that's not all, notice the little cliffhanger @ 1:03 at the end there? That's most likely Nero's mother/Vergil's wife. And now that they've just digitally remastered the game with a new cutscene perhaps giving us a small glimpse of who the mother is, it already sets in motion the storyline for the next DMC: a DMC5, featuring Dante and Trish's son. After all, Dante already hinted at having a son in the first game after beating Mundus and showing affection (*cough*HOTS*cough*) for Trish:
Yes, Trish was originally supposed to be Dante's canonical girlfriend according to the creator of DMC, Hideki Kamiya (which BTW, she IS in the DMC manga). Unfortunately, Kamiya left after the first game, causing a change in staff and overall vision for the series going forward which, judging by a new cutscene in DMC4SE, it looks like they may finally be headed in that direction after all, but don't take my word for it:
We're also long overdue for Mundus' inevitable return 3 games later as stated in the DMC1 ending quote above, so the pieces are already in place for a next-gen DMC5: they introduce us to Dante and Trish's son after giving us Vergil's son in DMC4, showcasing all kinds of nifty new abilities to make it interesting (let's face it, a child from these 2 would be insanely OP, more than any DantexLady kid, and give Nero a legit reason to hate Dante like they teased all throughout DMC4), Vergil comes back and reignites his skirmish with Dante, causing a 2 way blood battle (featuring a fully-powered Nero) all throughout the game's main storyline. Then Sparda comes back, finally making his long-awaited series debut, and tries to get the two grand kids to set aside their differences for a far bigger threat looming: the resurrection of Mundus courtesy of Vergil's yet-to-be-named wife, BvS plot: DMC Edition pretty much.
Tell me you wouldn't buy that game on next-gen consoles (assuming you're a console player, of course).
