Well, the gameplay is only as fun as the game allows it to be. Resident Evil 6 doesn't have gameplay fit for survival horror, but for an action game. I do enjoy some of the game's features, and there are some things that could work in a survival horror setting, but the overall gameplay is just too over the top compared to what the series used to be. Reason being, the shift in genre. So yeah, the gameplay does work in its respective game, but that's problem most people have. It's not supposed to be an action game.

But by the same token, do you think REmake would sell today if it JUST came out brand new to the modern day gamers...

Well, today it would be a very different game. It's a bit "outdated" for today's standards. But if it were released on both Gamecube and Playstation 2 in its time, then yeah, it would have probably sold very well.

It sold very well for even being on the Gamecube...I think you forget how much Capcom profited on the fact that it was Nintendo alone...Nintendo paid them a big sum of cash for them to be Nintendo Exclusives...So they profit on that, plus the sales of the games...And that's exactly my point...Outdated...A game made like the roots of RE is a bit outdated for today's technology...unfortunate, don't get me wrong...But true...

They could have made more money if they turned down Nintendo's deal and made it multi-platform. Going back to the series' roots doesn't mean making a carbon copy of the old games. Which is why I said if REmake released today, it wouldn't be the same game we know it as. They could easily achieve survival horror without the old formula. The Evil Within looks to be proof of that.

But in that sense RE6 went back to the roots in a lot of points...There were many areas where the camera angles were fixed...Zombies returned. Parts of Leon's campaign were very slow paced and creepy...It was a step in the right direction...

They did little throwbacks, but in the end, it was insulting to the old school fans. They tried selling Leon's campaign by saying that it was going to be more survival horror, when it was just as action oriented, if not, more so than RE5. The first 15 minutes was a slap to the face and really boring. Walking slow with nothing happening isn't survival horror. And the zombies, although better than ganados or majinis, were still just canon fodder. Nothing about RE6 was close to being survival horror again. It's just gothic action now.

That looks like a "doomsday" blog and not like an article of journalist standards. The author claims to know the future? It's not a bad blog entry (if that's what it is), but I don't trust the information to be accurate, and much of the content is merely opinions. There is no link to any sources.

I don't worry much about Capcom, I somewhat like them but I'm almost indifferent. It's good if they survive, but if they don't it's their shareholders and the employees problem, not mine. A company that makes too many bad decisions will go under, and that's good for the consumers. It makes companies that makes good games survive. Time will tell how Capcom will fare.

How did they abuse DLC?

A part of the blog I don't understand:

having western developers handle their AAA IP’s
What is AAA IP?

@KennedyKiller
You know what we think about unnecessary doubleposting. Three times in one thread don't go unnoticed.

This is something that has been going on for years. Its a long story and unless you followed them for a long time would only then most of it make sense. A lot of what was in the first article I posted were opinions, but it wasn't far from the truth. Of course Capcom wouldn't make a public statement yet and is doing everything they can to keep their business quiet. The main way they abuse DLC is releasing a game that they promote as being complete titles, but then a few weeks later charge for disc locked content to further charge people. Its like paying for half a game. An triple AAA IP are their best sellers. Like the Devil May Cry, Resident Evil, and Street Fighter series. DmC and RE6 did not come close to the mark they wanted to make and ended losing money. They should have never passed off their series to another company and they cancel the actual games we want to come back which would make them money. To further the bad news the President himself stated in the first link that they will further implement long term DLC plans at the earliest stages before possibly the game itself is even made! Again its really hard to explain. I don't know if you get all this, but that isn't good or what the fans want, and is why they're losing money. I hope they don't, but we'll see what happens.

Ya...My apologies for the double posting...Notifications were coming so fast, that I actually didn't realize I was doing it...I tried to see if I could edit the posts together, but there is either no way to do so, or I just don't know how...

Disc locked content is sneaky, I mean it's okay if they make an add-on to the game later and offer it as DLC. But having it on the disc from begin with is sneaky. It would have ****ed me off.

An triple AAA IP are their best sellers. Like the Devil May Cry, Resident Evil, and Street Fighter series.
OK, but it must be an acronym for something? The triple A could be a rating, it's a common rating system. But IP for me just means internet address.

DmC and RE6 did not come close to the mark they wanted to make and ended losing money.
I know RE6 was not a big success, but it didn't even break even? Did they abuse RE6 with disc locked content?

Sound like peeing in the pants to me. :(

When was Capcom's last comercial success? RE5? I don't actually know all the games they own.

Triple A games are video games that are expected to sell well and usually have bigger budgets than the average game. An IP is an Intellectual Property. Something like Resident Evil is an Intellectual Property of Capcom, which means they own it. Much like The Legend of Zelda is a Nintendo IP.

Exactly, and its why a lot of there fans don't trust them anymore to buy their games.

Its no definition for it. It just means its their highest level project with the most money in it. IP for games means Intellectual Properties.

It didn't make even. They made roughly around 4.9 million, but their goal was six. They did abuse the DLC in RE6 a bit. RE6 multiplayer modes overall are bad. Some of the Mercenary stages could've been free, but they still charged a dollar a piece each. Sometimes its not about the money and giving back something small like that to the fans shows appreciation.

I don't think they realize the thing that is killing business is what they keep doing. If they keep up with these DLC plans it won't end well. The most recent big commercial successes they had is Dragons Dogma that sold twice the amount they expected and Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate.

Resident Evil 4 saved the franchise
DmC destroyed Devil May Cry .
Oh dear boy i couldn't disagree anymore RE4 was just a great 3rs person shooter.. now matter how you put it its NOT Survival horror ! IT IS NOT ! it did not "Save" the franchise it essentially doomed the franchise.

Resident evil series is living in a castle of ice where it constantly feels the need to light something up.

And DmC was not "Dumbed down" and using the word "Destroyed" is just too heavy its a very solid game and way better than DMC 4 in fact i think its the best game in the series the story is great the platforming is great the art style&shapeshifting environments really up the quality of the game.

And the best part is that DmC is faithful to the "Roots" of its series unlike Resident evil it plays exactly like a devil may cry game.

How can you say that it "Destroyed" the series ? if anything it just fixed the story inconsistencies and revitalized the series.

Resident Evil 4 saved the franchise... You can't possibly say otherwise. Just yesterday, it was said that the commercial failure of REmake, is why Resident Evil 4 was more action oriented. Your feelings aren't going to change that.

Resident Evil 4 DID save the franchise, it gave the series something new, while retaining the Resident Evil atmosphere, RE5 is where the series screwed up and has been going downhill ever since.
However having recently watched this video from Razorfist.
He stated Revelations was the game RE4 should have been, at first I disagreed, but after thinking about it more, he was right, Revelations was the game RE4 should have been.

DmC is not in anyway faithful to Devil May Cry and it IS dumbed down, it's easy, awfully written, just flat out horrible and should not have anything to do with the Devil May Cry name and it doesn't matter what anyone thinks, the fact is DMC is not known for it's GOD DAMN STORY, it's famous for it's innovative gameplay and cool protagonist, both of which were ruined in DmC.
It did destroy the Devil May Cry franchise, it's the worst selling game in the franchise, the majority of the fanbase hates it and all those fans have turned to Bayonetta and Metal Gear Rising now, just like RE fans are going to Evil Within and Megaman fans are going to Mighty No 9.
Watch this video and pay attention to when he talks about the gameplay and boss battles, he explains exactly why DmC is a crap Devil May Cry game.

And Turo, of course you get gold stares for a logical and factual argument...
