Is Chris gay?

The thread that won’t quit!

This is how I imagine Chris and Wesker sneaking behind everyone’s backs and heading off to the Arklay mountains.

Yep, brings all new meaning to the lab scene in the original RE.

I think Chris is bi. He has a thing for Jill and liked Piers.
I am still not convinced he is gay but after thinking of it I may have found some evidence suggesting so, Barry in the original game said to Wesker in the beginning (if you're playing as Jill) "Chris is my old partner you know" which begs the question what sort of "partner" was he? He couldn't be a Police Partner because Chris joined STARS only recently and it probably had nothing to do with their Military background because veterans usually say something like "we served together in [insert branch here]" rather than referring themselves as partners so maybe they were gay partners at one point, also the instruction booklet says Chris was "kicked out" of the Air Force and remember this game was made in and set in the 90s and the US Military had a anti gay policy back then.

Chris got kicked out of the Air Force for having a problem with authority if memory serves me right, but even if it doesn't, I highly doubt that this is what Barry meant when he called Chris an "old partner". If you look at the original RE1, it's much more likely that whoever wrote the horrible script back then just didn't know how to phrase it properly. Also, if one considers that Moira must have been born around 1991, when Chris was 18, it means that Barry had this dubious "partnership" with Chris either before that, when the latter was still a minor, or later, while the former was already married and had a child. Doesn't sound much like Barry.

And I really don't want to imagine Chris and Barry... together.

I've never understood why people think he has a thing for Jill.

Because it is a truth universally acknowledged that a young man and a young woman starring together in whatever setting must become a couple in the end.

So what sort of partner is he? If he isn't a gay partner he must be very close to him in some other way because when he found the blood in the dining room he was as scared of it being Chris's blood but didn't seem to care as much about anyone else (besides Jill) so he clearly loves him.

I mean he’s his partner on the STARS force, but it is explained somewhere that their friendship goes farther back. A lot of people refer to friends as partners, it’s like cowboy talk which Barry does seem like an old fashioned, conservative gun slinger. I’d like to think that it’s similar to a father and son type of relationship/mentorship. But you think what you like...

Isn’t it said somewhere that Chris and Claire’s parents died in a car accident or something?

By the way, I was mostly joking when I said Chris was bi. Him being with Jill may or may not be a thing (they are most likely just pals, like Leon and Claire) but I highly doubt he is bisexual. I was mostly just being an awful shipper.

I wasn't serious ether but again if someone asked me if I think Chris us gay I would say a exactly the same thing because that's the only evidence to the best my knowledge.

The only evidence of Chris being in a relationship with Jill is the ending from the first game which had them holding hands in the helicopter and that ending isn't canon because in that ending depending on who you played as Rebecca/Barry is dead which is impossible considering that both of then are alive and well over a decade later (Barry in Revalations, Rebecca in the Vendetta movie).

Considering all these points and facts established by each of you who participated in this discussion, I conclude that Chris must clearly be bisexual. And judging from the perspective in favor of gender diversity and equality, Chris must be bi to not only break the stereotype of a straight American hero / warrior / soldier (like Rambo) but also to represent everyone being that he is more for his decisions than for his sexuality. Personally, I will be very disappointed if was confirmed that Chris was straight, it would be as if Capcom had been pressured to determine him like that because of the negative reaction that there was on the part of most homophobic fans in the community after the revelation of Dee-Ay's homosexuality through one of the developers. In fact, such a case would be tantamount to drastically changing from Barry to Sheeva during the development of RE5, since before the official release, such a title was accused of racism.

And sorry for any grammatical or textual errors, I used Google Translate to make this comment. But at least I hope you guys understand what I mean.

I don't think he is gay, he is just devout to his duty and don't have time for a relationship

I don't care about a character's sexual orientation in a video game about zombies and world-threatening bioweapons. If Chris is gay, good for him, but there's never been any indication that he is. That is just wishful thinking from fans who get off to intimate fanfics (and that includes shipping across all genders and orientations).

I don't really think there's any place for serious romance in this series anyway. It's never been, save for perhaps Code Veronica but that was a quite cringy romance. And then we have Ethan and Mia in RE7, but their romance was never front and center.

I think there is plenty of room for romance in the story, but the games are action forward and ignore the sexuality that these individuals could have in their lives. I mean, Carlos x Jill is a thing. And Leon and Ada confirmed they have had intimate relations at some point. But I don't know if there is any evidence of Chris being gay. I don't mind if they tell us that he is at some point, but I want Capcom to make the distinction.

Shouldn't some of these characters be married and have a family by now? I get it - Trauma makes typical lives less likely, but at some point, maybe Claire could settle down? Or at least make Leon-Ada a real thing!

I welcome romance in RE, no problem It would honestly be refreshing. However, I think its tragic that Umbrella has destroyed their normal lives and most has taken to fight the monsters, whether willing or not.

Carlos and Jill is a thing? Could’ve fooled me, Carlos has an obvious crush on her but Jill never seems interested in him romantically. The series doesn’t go overboard with it but over the years Jill has always seemed more interested in Chris, but because of their jobs they don’t act on it. I believe Jun Takeuchi actually confirmed this somewhere a while ago.

There’s about as much evidence of Chris being gay as there is Leon being gay. But you can’t expect these characters to just settle down and live normally. Leon and Ada is the most dull “relationship” i’ve ever witnessed. What is even going on? He shouts Ada! and she runs off. It’s getting old and they just have no chemistry, Leon and Angela in Degeneration or Helena in 6 were much better matches for him.

Carlos and Jill is just hinted at. Like all characters, everything is just hinted at.

But I do think they should do something with Leon and Ada after so long. They need something interesting to happen or ask themselves WHY DID WE INVEST IN THIS FOR SO LONG? haha
