Resident Evil CGI Trilogy

Well, so far Capcom has put out three CGI movies, and I want to know what you guys thought about them so far.

I can say that they are somewhat better than the Live Action movies, that is for sure. Degeneration was ok, Damnation was better, if a little confusing on some parts, and Vendetta is my least liked because it makes little to no sense.

Honestly, I think none of them are really good. Better than the live-action crap, sure, but that unfortunately didn't set the bar very high.

The story of Degeneration is solid in that it makes sense from the beginning to the end, something that can't be said about all the games (or movies), but it doesn't show or tell us anything new. Leon is basically a robot, I don't care about his implied love story with yet another forgettable one-off character, and there's only so many cool lines and bitchslaps Claire can deliver to make the entire thing more enjoyable. Still my favourite out of the bunch, though.

Damnation could have been more interesting as both a movie and an addition to the game franchise if it told the story of Edonia leading up to the events of RE6 rather than inventing yet another Eastern European country for a completely unrelated tale that only serves to highlight how badass Leon is. (And even that falls flat because the real badasses of the story are once again the women.) I'm also not sure I completely understand the story because my brain goes on standby whenever politics come up.

Vendetta... oh dear. Where do I even start? Once again Chris finds himself on a mission that he emerges from as the sole survivor - seriously, it's getting old -, and they also stole his character arc from RE6 and gave it to Leon this time. Speaking of Leon, those action sequences of him wrecking a highway with his bike stunts only look cool until you realise there's probably normal people sitting in those exploding cars, and it doesn't stop there, the entire movie tries way too hard to impress us with over-the-top demolition and violence and then closes with a wannabe-happy ending about zombies turning back into normal people... WHAT? Rebecca is back, once again as a damsel in distress with little purpose who for some unexplained reason is still wearing the same outfit as back in 1998, never mind that it was actually a uniform back then, and we get a handful of new characters that nobody cares about. Parts of the movie can be enjoyable, but during other parts I just sit there wondering who came up with this $hit and how the hell it ever got approved. Replace either Leon or Chris with Alice and this could easily pass as one of the live-action movies, but I suppose that would go against Capcom's most likely intention behind this mess, to create a story about the franchise's two male leads working side by side after a similar idea for RE6 wasn't properly explored. The trailer looked interesting, but the film itself... meh.

I've only seen Damnation out of the bunch and I feel asleep several times watching it. I don't like the overreliance on action that turn these otherwise normal cops and soldiers into superhumans.

The last one was the worst tbh, which is sad cause Rebecca is one of my favorite characters. I don’t get why all the zombies-THAT WERE EATING PEOPLE- turned back normal. What about the people that turned from getting bit? Ones missing limbs and eyes, did it all just grow back?
The movie had more plot holes then a slice of Swiss cheese. They should have stopped with just the first one. Sure it lacked in Zomb-action, but it was still decent for a resi-movie.

I agree, Vendetta makes no sense at all. Leon is an angry drunk, Chris is just angry, the unnecessary plug for Breaking Bad, A virus that the audience doesn't understand, I think Capcom is betting on itself to make the most complicated plot.

I don't know about Chris. I did like that they showed his kinder side whenever he interacted with Rebecca. And there were a few okay moments between Leon and Chris. But yeah, Leon being drunk was just a rehash of Chris in RE6, just without the amnesia.

Well yeah, he has his moments, but Chris has a knack of holding grudges that leads to disastrous result, i'm surprised that the BSAA didn't arrest him for desertion after being MIA for six months or hands him in dishonorable discharge. But I digress... what bothers me is that Chris didn't try rely his experience of losing hope after the Edonia incident and how he overcame it to try to give hope and compassion, instead he let his thirst of vengeance against Arias take over while talking to Leon. Talk about a missed opportunity

The same BSAA that spent those six months looking for him and then picked up an amnesiac drunk from a bar to lead a unit of soldiers into a battle to the death that the fate of the world as we know it might depend on? Nope, they would never arrest or discharge him, if only because he's apparently the only captain they have. Seriously, that plot hole still bugs me till this day. And then Piers complains about what a $hitty captain Chris is, not that he's wrong about any of it, but let's not forget who put Chris in that situation in the first place, and what state he was in at the time.

But that brings us to the point: In Chris's defence, he did really suffer from amnesia, so he can't be blamed for abandoning people he didn't even remember, let alone that he was working for them. What bothers me more is that Vendetta reused the "good character questions everything he's done and becomes desperate" plot again after RE5 and 6, with Capcom probably thinking we wouldn't notice because it's Leon this time and not Chris.

Degeneration was OK, 6 out of 10
Damnation was good 7 out of 10 it had good action scene, Good character, good plot and a villain that could have been part of a main game...
Vendetta was awful, the story had No sense the protagonist are idiot and out of character, the action is bad and ripped badly off John wick, the motorcycle scene is so bad that I consider it non Canon since leon kill innocent people and dosnet care, something that leon would have never done since in all resident evil he always try to give his life to protect a single person

Damnation>Degeneration>>>Vendetta

Vendetta is really absurd IMO and really ruin Chris and Leon. I really don't like how Chris behaves like the events of RE6 never happened ( Really noticeable when he meets Leon. ) and how they lazily copy pasted RE6 Chris' drunk status to Leon, not to mention they forced Leon to this movie. He kills civilians in this movie with that motorcycle scene which is also out of character for him. Rebecca is a wasted plotential and instead becomes a slave for the villain. I don't like how they don't tell us the year this movie takes place; it apparently takes place after RE6 but that's all we really know about it. And the ending where zombies turn back to human is so stupid. The only good thing about it is one action scene where Leon arrives to help Chris and kills zombies in full DMC gunslinger style.

Degeneration is kinda decent but my biggest gripe is Leon himself. He behaves exactly like DMC2 Dante. Did... did he play DMC2 before the events of this movie and get depressed just like Dante which is the reason why behaves like that? Claire is portrayed pretty good here; she's pretty good with kids in this movie unlike in Revelations 2. Really wished she got more screentime in this and less screentime for Angela. This movie probably has the story out of all the CGI movies IMO.

Damnation is the best one IMO. I like how it connects RE4 and RE6 to each other very well, Leon and Ada behave and look similar to how they are in RE6 in this which is nice and the new characters are likeable in this instead of being boring; JD's death was pretty sad. It also has the best action scenes compared to Degeneration and Vendetta. Story isn't as good as in Degeneration I think but it's still pretty serviceable.

I think the stage play that's a prequel to RE6 is a lot better than Vendetta; remember watching that couple days ago and enjoying it more than Vendetta. Plus it has Piers along with Chris and Rebecca as well as better new characters.

Forgot to say this but another thing I find weird about Vendetta is Hunnigan's absence. She was in RE4, Degeneration, Damnation and RE6 working with Leon, why isn't she here too?

This is another clue IMO that Leon is really rushed to the movie; instead of him who needs his vacation, they should have added Jill and Barry to the movie instead.

Ohhhh! That's right! I bet the reason is that Leon had no reason to be in the movie, but had to complete the trifecta. Yeah, I think Jill should have been in the movie, can you imagine it?

Yeah, it would have been an awesome Spencer Mansion reunion.

I'm not so sure how will it play out personally but I know what I would change.

Anyways, here are some of my ideas:

1. Definitely get rid of the scenes that involve heroes killing civilians, including the ending.

2. Remove the mansion sequence. Why are the soldiers so easily killed like that? Change it with a flashback scene for Jill instead.

3. Rebecca doesn't get kidnapped. University raid happens mostly same and she got saved by Jill and Barry along with new characters. After that, Rebecca's mostly with Barry while Jill finds Chris and is mostly with her. Speaking of Jill, change her hair color back to her original color instead of blonde.

4. Replace the new virus with C-Virus instead so that the movie connects better to RE6. New monsters not found in that game would have been cool too.

5. For the villains, change their backstory so that they are Neo-Umbrella members who want revenge from BSAA and how they are ****ed at Carla's death.

6. Add a long dialogue between Chris and Jill where she says to him how was her life really crap after RE5 since she wasn't allowed to take part in operations and how she's really happy now that she's with Chris.

7. If there's going to be a motorcycle scene, Jill should be the one riding it. And of course no innocent killing!

8. Remove the Breaking Bad reference.

9. Jill and Chris fight with both of the villains. Both of them got horribly killed by Valenfield team. Their deaths causes a special C-Virus BOW to get released which Valenfield team kill along with Barry and Rebecca's help.

10. The ending shows us with a mysterious villain observing BSAA. He's actually the new Family leader from RE6 which is told in the files.

11. Tell us which year this movie takes place.

Make sure to give more suggestions or improve my ideas.

Degeneration has the best story but least interesting action. Claire is awesome but leon is boring. Angela is alright. Damnation overall has the best leon and other characters but storywise; it's not as good as degeneration's. The action is better than degeneration's though. Vendetta overall has the best action but storywise; it's the weakest. I wished it was connected more to re6. Also leon feels forced to the movie.
