Taking into account everything that's been said here, I would say for both Barry and Rebecca to have survived the Spencer mansion, then parts, not all, of both scenarios are canon. Which, by that line of reasoning, would mean that the true continuity of any version of RE1 isn't the games storyline, it's actually the storyline of S.D. Perry's novelisation of the game, Umbrella Conspiracy. It's the only way that I can see that makes sense.

except that those novels have been confirmed to be non canon ;)

The true answer is neither. And both.

But between the two, Chris' scenario is more relevant to the overall arc, with RE2 focusing on his sister, the Wesker rivalry, Rebecca's survival etc.

The main force of Jill's scenario is about Barry and his betrayal, and while canon, it's just exposition post-RE1.

Definitely both.

There's a file that states that Rebecca survived the Mansion incident (Can't remember which game it's from, I think 2). Also, RE3 and Revelations 2 pretty much prove that Barry survived the mansion.

I wasn't aware of this. That's unfortunate, because, despite some minor continuity errors (which she did acknowledge were there), the books give more depth to the overall story. The books are something I've been thinking about discussing in another thread, so I'm going to set one up at some point over the next few days.

The S.D. Perry books are officially an alternate universe known as "Perryverse" and along with the different universes of the various comic book series, the live action films and the mainstream (games canon) universes it forms the Resident Evil Multiverse.

Multiverse is a concept that has existed especially in comic books for decades. especially the DC Comics universe (Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Flash etc.) heavily explores the Multiverse concept. It basically means that there are various different universes, each with its own earth and therefore own versions of the characters living on earth. Each earth has it´s own canon and history. Some are similar to each other, while others are more different.

The TV series The Flash heavily explored the Multiverse in it´s recent Season with the villain Zoom hailing from Earth-2 and several villains being earth-2 versions of previously established characters. At the end of the season the superhero Jay Garrick was introduced who is the Flash on Earth-3 (in the TV version. In the comics Earth-3 is actually ruled by an evil Justice League, whose members are basically evil versions of the regular superheroes.)

Resident Evil has a Multiverse too (which is how I always viewed the games and movies anyway), where the three primary "Earths" being "Mainstream" (Games, CG movies, the RE stage play and the novel "Biohazard: Wicked North Sea"), "Anderson" (live action films) and "Perry" ( the S.D. Perry novels)

Other earths include the Wildtstorm comics, the Marvel vs Capcom games, the DeCandido novels or the non canon games like Operation Raccoon City.

A list of all the Universes in the RE Multiverse can be found here: http://residentevil.wikia.com/wiki/Resident_Evil_Wiki:Multiverse

A reason why the Perry novels are their own universe is that there are some books in the series (Caliban Cove and Underworld) which are original stories that are not based on any of the games.

There's no "multiverses" or "earths" in the Resident Evil series. It's just the main series and the spin-offs.

Other such material like the Perry novels and the Anderson movies are just separate non-canon entities inspired by the games, not a different "earth".

Says who ? Games like Operation Raccoon City are also taking place in an alternate timeline. and clearly the movies have their own universe and canon. This is classic Multiverse. Besides the Perry novels have been confirmed to be their own universe and the RE wiki even has articles on the Multiverse.

Out of curiosity, since everyone but one person said RE 1 is an amalgamation of both storylines, what do you guys think Chris did and what do you think Jill did? What's the actual story?

Hm never thought about it in greater detail but let me give it a try:

- Alpha Team discovers helicopter, is attacked by Cerberus. Joseph is killed

- Jill, Barry and Wesker arrive at mansion, Wesker leaves to prepare. Jill starts investigating.

- Chris enters mansion, investigates on his own and finds Rebecca.

- Barry saves Jill from the crushing ceiling (referenced in Revelations 2)

- Richard dies and is eaten by Yawn

- Chris and Rebecca mix the V-Jolt and weaken Plant 42, while Jill and Barry destroy it.

- Chris and Rebecca investigate the caves, Wesker shoots Enrico. Jill and Barry fight Lisa in her lair.

- All four enter the laboratory, Rebecca goes to activate the self destruct system while Chris, Jill and Barry confront Wesker. Barry turns on Jill and Chris but then changes his mind and turns on Wesker. Tyrant kills Wesker and knocks out Barry. Chris and Jill beat Tyrant.

- All four flee to the roof while Wesker is resurrected and escapes the mansion. Chris signals Brad, Tyrant shows up again and is killed by Chris with Rocket Launcher. All four escape with helicopter while mansion explodes.

Chris wanders into the mansion, saves Rebecca and eventually runs into Wesker who reveals his ulterior motives. Only instead of Chris wanting to work with him, he laughs at him and his plans. Thus Wesker locks Chris up in the cell, has his way with him, and then gets back to work. Jill, Berry, and Rebecca obviously have to save the day and rescue the damsel in distress before the big bomb blows up and they all ride off in the helicopter and into the sunset. The end.

I think it's kind of like this:

-Jill, Barry, and Wesker enter the mansion and Chris comes in soon after.

-Barry saves Jill from the ceiling trap.

-Chris meets Rebecca and a wounded Richard.

-Richard dies from Yawn's venom and his wounds.

-Jill finds the body of Forest and takes his grenade launcher.

-Chris goes onto the balcony and is attacked by the zombified Forest.

-Jill plays Moonlight Sonata and discovers the secret door.

-Jill and Barry fight Lisa.

-Chris and Rebecca use V-Jolt on Plant 42 and Jill and Barry fight it.

-Rebecca goes to activate the self-destruct system while Chris, Jill and Barry find and talk to Wesker in the lab.

-Chris and Jill fight the Tyrant.

-Chris, Jill, Barry, and Rebecca leave on the helicopter with Brad.

The multiverses you described as "classic" actually acknowledge each other, and feature crossovers. This never happens in the RE series. The Anderson films and Perry novels have their own canon, but neither of them are other "earths" and neither of them are alternate versions of the game canon. They're all just entirely separate things.

Operation Raccoon City isn't an alternate timeline, it's simply a non-canon what-if. And the RE wiki is just a fan-site like this one. The fact that it has a multiverse category means nothing.

Not all Multiverses have universes that know of each other and feature crossovers. For example the Devil May Cry reboot has been confirmed by Capcom to be an alternate universe while DMC 1-4 take place in the regular one. And I could name several Marvel and DC earths that have never been in contact with each other or had crossovers.

Another good example is Star Wars where we now have two different universes as well - the main universe (movies, TV shows and novels and comics since 2014) and the Legends universe (movies, TV shows and all comics, games and novels released before 2014 or under the Legends banner). Star Trek is another example where you have the classic universe and the new universe which consists of the most recent movies.

But no matter how you look at it we have three seperate RE universes with the main, the Anderson and the Perry universes.

If you disagree then that´s your choice and we´ll just have to agree that we won't see eye to eye on this.

It's still not a multiverse because if it was, that would imply that the games, books and films occupy a space within which all universes exist, which they don't. They're all separate.

It's not a matter of agreeing or disagreeing, the multiverse idea is not part of the series and is flat out wrong. There's no "mainstream earth" or "Anderson earth". I'm not saying there aren't different "universes", there are, but neither of them co-exist.

That´s a statement that you cannot prove. It´s quite possible that they DO co-exist. There is no proof for or against it and so it´s simply a matter of your own point of view. To me they absolutely co-exist. How long do you wanna keep continuing this useless debate where neither of us is gonna budge anyway ? We can do this for days and nothing will change. Just let it be.

I don't need to prove it because nothing in the series even suggests it. By your logic, I could think of anything that could've possibly happened and say it may have happened as long as there's nothing to disprove it. I will let it be, but i'm just saying that the multiverse idea is something you are choosing to roll with, and you're free to believe that, but that doesn't alter the fact that the concept doesn't apply to the Resident Evil series.

Well, at least you acknowledge your flawed logic.

Flawed from your point of view. Please stop putting me down and telling me that what I think is false and that your opinion and views are the only correct ones. I don´t like it when people I don´t even know call me flawed. Frankly I am getting really tired of this. Please just don´t say anything right now just for the sake of making another remark and just leave me alone. Your last comment was just petty and only meant to put me down and insult me and make me feel bad. It contributed nothing to the issue or the subject to this thread and was completely unnecessary. Dont´t reply to me just to be an ass. Thats just disrespectful.
