Resident Evil: Retribution (Movieverse RE) reviews (Spoilers)

OK so I'll start with mine (I managed to watch it online for free LOL).
The movie pros...

1. It has Leon Kennedy in it and Barry Burton as well.
2. It has Ada Wong in her original Asian look and not changed to Caucasian as was inexplicably done in the latest games.

Now i have to say that besides trampling canon and setting the RE live action movie franchise in a whole separate universe from the games. I do not think of the action sequences in the movies as cheesy or poorly performed and they really are not. The plot in most of the movies have been pretty disjointed so far in this one they try to join the essentialy disjointed franchise through what amounts to the lengthiest narration intro by Alice in what consumes 5 to 6 minutes of the film.

although not sure, it seems that Alice never really had a family or siblings of her own because she started out as a clone herself probably from a woman that died long ago at least that's what I gather when Ada explained how the clones are virtually blanks and then given memory imprints.

I kinda liked the ,momma bear attitude Alice took with the cloned little girl in the Raccoon City simulation of the facility.

Albert Wesker doesn't become a good guy, he and the others make an uneasy truce when Red Queen goes Skynet but with BOWs instead of terminators.

The battle between Jill and Alice is epic and Jill mops the floor with Alice all the way through, Alice only saved herself because she managed to remove the control scarab.

Does anyone know what those flying BOWs were at the movie's end?.

I pretty much agree with you. Though I didn't really notice a change in Ada. I think she looks the same in RE4 and RE6.

And the flying BOWs were called Kipepeo.

Thanks for the link, strangely I'm looking forward to the conclusion of the current movieverse RE franchise.love it or hate it I want to see what becomes of Alice in the end.
Albert reinjected her with the T-Virus again at the end of the film in a Escape from New York kind of deal so I'm guessing he will turn her human again once she stops Red Queen

I'm excited about it too. Some head honcho for Sony mentioned how they're planning two more sequels (6 & 7), followed by a possible reboot without Alice. Atleast that's the latest I've read from numerous websites. Perhaps they're going to do something like what they did with Twilight's Breaking Dawn? Cut it in two parts? I wouldn't mind it. This way they could evenly divide and develop (heh, well we can hope for hints of development) the characters a little more before their fates are sealed.
I wish Christopher Nolan was involved in this project. He is great at working several stories together in one movie -I am a huge fan of the Dark Knight trilogy - and he could possibly create something memorable for RE's last entry. If only Paul would read my posts and listen! Lol. I admittedly enjoy the Alice story he spun around Resident Evil, but there are things he could have done alot better that seemed like simple, careless mistakes.

I am very curious as to how and where Resident Evil 6 will happen. How will they work Alice, Leon, Ada, Wesker, Jill, Chris, Claire, KMart, Becky, and possibly Angela Ashford all together in one movie without it being a mess? Did Bad Rain survive? What monsters can we expect in this one?

*Contains spoilers*
Milla J sexy as always and like always the movie revolves around her; Li Bingbing is beautiful; Sienna Guillory looks good as “Battle Jill”; *Rain Spoilers: Good Rain “SEXY”, Bad Rain “Bad Ass”*

I find it's a good movie but like "PunkMeister" said they have made it their own little universe set around Alice.
Wish Ada Wong looked more like “Assignment Ada” or “RE6 Ada” she just seems out of place in the red dress.

Loved Kevin Durand portrayal of “Barry Burton” but I hate the script. *Barry Spoiler: I wish there was more of a bond between him and Jill Valentine like in the games instead of him blasting away at her like if she was nobody.*
Leon S Kennedy who? I hate Leon in this movie; he was more a goon with an Asian fetish. *Leon Spoiler: Would have loved the film more if it was him battling the “giant lickers” or some “Mr X’s” like in “Damnation”*

Reportedly, some of the scenes that were cut out from the script were their back stories. It wouldn't have been flashbacks, but they would have talked about how they ended up working with Wesker and such. A flashback that was cut was supposed to be a scene were they showed Alice killing Angie Ashford (while under Isaac's control) and then rescued by Carlos while Jill would be captured by Umbrella. This would have explained her antagonistic role more effectively as opposed to the Alice narration at the start of the film. Here's a list of stuff that may have been cut out. It was posted in another thread here not long ago.

Unknown if ALL of the deleted scenes got filmed, and if any NEW scenes that were not in the script got filmed.
Here is the list of deleted scenes:
1. Rain Ocampo, Carlos Oliveira and James ‘One’ Shade reveal themselves by taking their helmets off after they have entered the control room with Jill Valentine.
2. Alice says ‘I guess we’re not friends anymore’ to Jill Valentine.
3. Scenes of Jill Valentine, Rain Ocampo, Carlos Oliveira and James ‘One’ Shade having brief interactions while they travel through the white corridor, the control room, the New York stimulation, and the Moscow stimulation.
4. Scenes of Jill Valentine suffering and trying to break free from the Red Queen’s control. Jill Valentine even appears to be temporarily free during the suburbia face off and she tries to warn Alice.
5. Both Albert Wesker and Ada Wong provide explanations about what has happened to Umbrella and why the Red Queen is in control of the company. Also, they talk about the White Queen and the other Queens’ at other facilities.
6. Ada Wong informs Alice about the facility and the clones, as well as they talk about the past events after they both get attacked by the zombified Rain.
7. Ada Wong explains that the Las Plagas is Umbrella’s latest creation to control the undead and other monsters that have evolved and become out of control.
8. Both Rain Ocampo and Ada Wong get involved in a brief fight after Rain Ocampo discovers Ada Wong hiding in the ruins of the suburbia house. Rain Ocampo then takes Ada Wong hostage.
9. More scenes involving Good Rain (some scenes are humorous).
10. More scenes involving both Alice and Becky.
11. The conversation in the dark subway tunnel is much longer: both Leon S. Kennedy and Barry Burton share their personal stories, Leon S. Kennedy talks about Ada Wong, everyone talks about the Raccoon City incident, and Good Rain shows signs of having a crush on Leon S. Kennedy. Also, Good Rain shows signs of jealously whenever Leon S. Kennedy talks about Ada Wong because he appears thoughtful towards to her.
12. Leon S. Kennedy’s backstory: he used to work for Umbrella in Raccoon City before the apocalypse occurred and he had a working relationship with Albert Wesker. Leon S. Kennedy had a past relationship with Ada Wong and he lost his parents at an early age.
13. Barry Burton’s backstory: he used to be a marine and he lost his family during the outbreak. Leon S. Kennedy rescued Barry Burton who was contemplating committing suicide because the thought of witnessing the death of his family devastated Barry Burton. Barry Burton found comfort by joining in Umbrella’s Resistance and both Leon S. Kennedy and Barry Burton became good friends.
14. Ada Wong’s backstory: she works for Albert Wesker as an agent and Leon S. Kennedy describes Ada Wong as ‘very intelligent and evasive’ with Barry Burton adding, ‘…and a bitch’. Ada Wong had a past relationship with Leon S. Kennedy.
15. The zombie attack in the dark subway tunnel. A sudden fight breaks out between the survivors, the zombies, and a creature and the fight is intense and scary because the tunnel is very dark.
16. The fight between Leon S. Kennedy (using a knife) and a large zombie.
17. Scenes of Barry Burton getting involved in the action of both Moscow and subway sequences.
18. The flashback about Angela Ashford’s death and Jill Valentine’s kidnapping. Before the final fight commences, Jill Valentine says something along the lines to Alice: ‘one little girl’s life for another’. The flashback is then shown to reveal what happened to both Angela Ashford and Jill Valentine after the Raccoon City incident. Jill Valentine is held captive by two Umbrella soldiers and they are outside of a building (unknown if they are on Umbrella’s premise) and it starts to rain. A grown-up Angela Ashford is held hostage by another Umbrella soldier and Dr. Sam Isaacs is standing in front of both Jill Valentine and Angela Ashford with some Umbrella soldiers lining up behind him. Moments later, Alice is seen jumping off the rooftop of a small building and she walks towards to them with the Umbrella logos in her eyes, implying that she is being controlled. Jill screams as she realises that Alice is in a trance-like state and Dr. Sam Isaacs receives a phone call from Albert Wesker. Albert Wesker tells Dr. Sam Isaacs that they no longer need Angela Ashford and Albert Wesker declares that Alice is of a higher priority. Dr. Sam Isaacs instructs Alice to kill Angela Ashford and Alice shoots Angela Ashford in the head. Jill Valentine gives out a deafening scream and cries. Jill Valentine becomes so enraged that she manages to break free and punches Alice in the face. The punch results in Alice regaining consciousness and she realises of the act she just committed. The Umbrella soldiers recapture Jill and they escape in a helicopter with Dr. Sam Isaacs, leaving Alice having to deal with the Umbrella soldiers. A fight breaks out and when Alice gets overwhelmed with the Umbrella soldiers, Carlos Oliveira makes a sudden appearance by crashing into the premise in a truck and he shoots some of the soldiers. Carlos Oliveira then rescues Alice and they escape together.
19. Jill tells Alice that ‘you’re good but not THIS good’ and then exerts a powerful kick on Alice during the final fight.
20. Luther’s death is more emotional because he gives Alice a kiss before she leaves to rescue Becky.
21. The flashback about Alice’s origins. The flashback appears during the helicopter trip to Washington and Alice’s origins is dark and heartbreaking.
22. The Alice vs. Albert Wesker fight. After Albert Wesker says ‘Perhaps. But first, you have work to do’, Alice says something and then attacks him. A fight breaks out and Albert Wesker kicks the crap out of Alice. Eventually, Alice’s bruises start to heal and she regains the upper hand by landing some punches on Albert Wesker and the fight turns even because both are dominating each other. The fight comes to a halt when Albert Wesker reveals that he knows the whereabouts of the abducted Chris Redfield, Claire Redfield and K-Mart. Albert Wesker makes a deal by promising that he’ll tell Alice where Chris Redfield, Claire Redfield and K-Mart are being
held hostage if only Alice successfully helps Albert Wesker to defeat the Red Queen. Alice finally accepts the deal and she ‘joins’ with Albert Wesker.

This film made me think, Did they really have to make me suffer that much. I'm still a undying resident evil fan. After mass contemplation and Guess what, even though it sucked, yes it did. I still enjoyed it. Weird I know.

Gotta Quote PunkMaister
1 more time. For everyone trying to explain the film to you're friends this is what you should say.

With slight word adjustment
RE live action movie franchise is in a whole separate universe to the video game AND ALSO The plot in most of the movies have been pretty disjointed from the games so far in this one they try to join the essentially disjointed franchise through what amounts to the lengthiest narration intro by Alice in what consumes 5 to 6 minutes of the film.
When I read that I was like "Lol wut?" And that is the feeling I get when I'm watching RE films.
I've tried to argue with my gamer friend that the RE film franchise is worth while, It only led to heights of further disappointment.

leads me to my next point..anyone think that RE would have been so much better as a TV series (if the walking dead is getting such a following, i would have to imagine that RE would be 10x better)..that way they are actually getting the proper time to build up characters and story..instead of trying mush everything into a 2 hour movie that makes no logical sense whatsoever..

I'm so much a Resident evil fan and I watch the movies.....I was so ****. I didn't enjoyed the retribution. The person who protrayed Leon on that movie was horrible, his voice wasn't good, he doesn't even look like him. Leon was one of my favorite characters in the RE series. The plot in the Retribution movie dislike to me, like are you serious? Wesker gives Alice powers back and wants to save the human race? Wesker doesn't do that! Wesker character is nothing but a self fish guy. Also at the end, Leon is teaming up with Wesker, Leon doesn't even like Wesker at all. Oh and when Mitchell Rodriguez character insert the Las Plagas in herself, That was BS right there. Las Plagas doesn't makes you become invincible. All I have to say about the live movies, it needs to be reboot. If I would make a RE movie, I'll rather make the film where it all begins with Alexander Ashford, Oswell E. Spencer, and Dr. Marcus working together and starting the Umbrella corp. It all started with the Trevors family, the dad (George Trevor) was the best Artitecture and Spencer wants him to design a mansion for him with puzzles, then Ashford (plus Dr. Marcus) wants George to build one too and during that time. Spencer kidnapped Lisa Trevor and Jessica Trevor and used them for experiments. then Spencer starts Wesker project where he kidnapped from orphange. The soldiers brain wash the kids and give them a name ex: John Wesker, Albert Wesker, Alex, Wesker and more.....And their is more, I have it all down in my head....but thats where how all Virus created and scientist being competitive, then assassination happen and many more. I spend hours reading about the background of resident evil video games series. Paul W.S Anderson needs to explain his story staright, because the audience that haven't play any games of Resident evil doesn't understand who is Wesker? How did he get the power? Who was the man who started the company Umbrella? Need to reboot the film really bad.

I watched Resident Evil Horrible... eeer, I mean, Retribution this morning and I have to say I'm glad I didn't spend a cent on it. This movie goes from an unnecessarily long introduction by Alice to an attempted, but totally predictable mind-f*ck to Alice fighting zombies in unrealistic / exaggerated ways, and it doesn't get any better. Also, I have several qualms about the story, the characters, and the casted actors for the latter.

A few examples, but careful, they're not spoiler-free:
- Why does Barry look like a Japanese?
- Wesker is one of the good guys all of a sudden? How embarrassing is that?
- The woman in the red dress is everything, but not Ada to me. But I guess every (female) character turns into a damsel in distress next to Alice.
- How does Alice know sign language? I thought that was imprinted on her clone, not her, and I don't remember there being an explanation or her ever using it before.
- What happened to Chris and Claire? They are mentioned once in Alice's question to Jill, but never again.
- Alice cutting the licker's belly open with her finger nails seems way too easy, why didn't Becky have that idea? Also, the girl is completely clean when she comes out, unlike the dead soldier who is covered in slime. Was the child actress too afraid of the special effect slime?
- Barry's sacrifice / death scene is, if at all, only dramatic to fans of the original RE, I don't think anyone else would really care. Instead of focusing on Alice defeating zombies, the director should have taken more time establishing the characters so we could actually feel for them.
- The general lack of emotion and character depth. Sure, Alice knew about the mind-controlling spider devices since she freed Claire from one in the previous movie, but is that really a reason for not bringing it up at all after Jill has been cured?
- As for Leon, why is he even in the movie? Wasn't it stated in a newspaper in the second movie that he was Jill's partner who got killed? Is that a different Leon? Or is he a clone too?

But there are also a few scenes I liked. These include:
- The car scene. Alice using a car door to knock an enemy out and then driving, or rather sliding down an escalator in the subway was hilarious!
- The recurring cloning element, although I think it could have been used more effectively. For example, when "Rain" joined Alice and Becky in the subway, even though I remembered the woman from fake Alice's story, I wondered for a while if she's the real woman from before, or "Jill's Rain". I was kind of disappointed when she just died.
- The look fake Rain gives the other guy (not Leon) after he hits her in the head with a fire extinguisher. She's like: "Is THIS how you treat a lady?", and then kills him. (And I didn't feel sorry for him because although Alice remembers him from earlier, I had no idea who this guy was.)
- Alice being vulnerable in the last fight, not the invincible determinator as usual.
- The nod to Leon and Ada's complicated relationship near the end, when he puts a hand on her tigh and she brushes it off.

But overall, I think this was the worst entry in the whole movie series, and that's saying something. It's just an action film with little to no plot and bland, uninteresting characters. Not that the previous movies were any better for the most part, but now it's really getting old.

I just watched Retribution and its by far the worst Resident Evil movie. In fact, its one of the worst movies I have sat all the way through in years. Of course, the movies have never been as good as the games, but I've always enjoyed the movies as their own separate telling. I don't think I have ever saw a movie this bad with this big of a budget. Straight garbage and if you are a fan of the previous movies and all the games, I have no idea how you could enjoy this nonsense. Okay, now I'm just being a dick, but I really hated this movie.

Horror movie heroine must be wearing a sexy, tight-fitting underwear not have to wrap the strap, it must be short, no matter how thrilling fights through flesh and clothes will not be any damage. Actress watching Resident Evil feel too fake, no matter how much she leisurely crisis, has undergone several zombie raid are intact, others are timid and cowardly performance of the heroine of the mighty.

The 6th movie is called Resident Evil: Armageddon. The 7th movie is called Resident Evil: Oblivion. I'm writing the 7th movie now. A possible Resident Evil TV Show is being discussed at the moment. It may start where Oblivion left off. If another movie after Oblivion happens, it'll be called Resident Evil: Redemption. If anybody wants to know a bit about the 7th movie, send me a message and I'll get back to you. Bye.
