I've been looking for a new horror survival game for a bit now, and I might end up with enough money to get a few of them. So would you recommend it?

I recommend them. Although it has been a long while since I've played them since I've been busy with work and school. I vaguely recall playing The Room, which reminds me of the movie 1408. I think I've also played homecoming which is great as well. They're creepy and scare me more than the latest Resident Evil titles. If you like a good horror game, I say go for it.

This year, come hell or high water; I will collect all the Resident Evil titles on all the main systems. After I'm done with those, I'm going to look into getting the Silent Hill series. ;)

After Resident Evil, Silent Hill is perhaps my most favourite gaming series. I've owned practically every SH game that's seen a release, and I still see the first two as among my top 2 favourite games of all-time. That said, I didn't much care for 'The Room' (that Robbie the Rabbit 'event' was absolute brilliance, though) or ****tered Memories. Despite it not being especially well-received by hardcore fans, Homecoming is probably my favourite of the bunch.

I don't really make a habit of recommending them nowadays, though, and not just because they've steadily gotten weaker (aside from Homecoming) as they've gone along; they feature some really disturbing and demonic themes that made me, as a Christian, feel extremely uncomfortable having them in my home. I thoroughly enjoyed them during my non-Christian youth, having completed the majority of them a billion times, and I can still appreciate how remarkably well-made several of them are, but my home is all the more 'pure' for getting rid of them.

Just the two pence of an agnostic gamer person turned Christian... gamer person.

Dat twist in 2. But it is really creepy, like everyone else is saying. ****tered Memories, if I remember, designed the game to how you answer questions. NPC's just wear different hats, but the monsters is what is really cool. There are a bunch of weird things, but the funniest is that if you come off as a pervert the monsters have boobs. It sucks that the game was horrible. Silent Hill 2 is probably the most well received among fans, so I'd recommend that one.

Silent Hill 2 had me amazed and enthralled from start to finish (even during the times I was hiding behind my sofa!) and when the pieces started coming together towards the later half of the game, I couldn't put the controller down.

I should have further elaborated as to what I love and loathe about ****tered Memories; I loved the freedom and the creepy way it would psychoanalyse behaviours and certain choices of mine, but I thought it was pretty weak how you would only ever be in danger when you entered into an icy area. It completely killed the tension for me, knowing that during the non-icy segments I could wander about as I please without hidden nasties springing out and giving me a good scare. It was the first SH game where I felt safe - almost constantly. When I was still following the SH games, I was always pleased to find that any follow-up games weren't going the same route as ****tered Memories and trying to re-spin a story that didn't really need re-spinning.

There is the Silent Hill HD collection for quick convenience but you can probably pick it up cheaper if you have an older console. I've already got 2 and 3, I'm currently renting the HD collection and its good although i wish they put in Silent Hill 4. Stick with the original voice acting in 2 though..why do these assholes go back and change things that don't need changing?Lucky Guy Cihi is such a cool guy and got the originals in 2 on fan behalf.

The graphics are actually extremely good still. And Silent Hill 2 or 3 will still scare the hell out of you.Only problem is i found maybe they cut out too much fog in some areas of the game.

They are good games sure
If you want something like Resident Evil but not quite Silient Hill is No.1
Me...i don't play much anymore, rough past....Worse since slient hill as steve mentioned, Demonic Theme it really angers to the extent of actually wanting to kill someone but....anyhow it really fun if you aren't affected by it's theme
it is a very good series at that but i don't own them anymore

I was planing on getting the HD collection after I got the first one, off psn.

Yeah it does the job for those 2 games. My only pet peeve is the voice acting doesn't have an option to change in 3 but since you haven't played it yet then it shouldn't be an issue.

Yes! I never made it through 1 (too "old" once I got around to getting an affordable copy), but 2 and 3 are marvelous. I especially like 2. I have played 4, Origins, and Homecoming. I'd perhaps recommend 4, but Origins and Homecoming are disappointing. So much so that I haven't played Downpour yet. I'll get around to it...

Well since Graffics and clunky controls (I'm not sure about he controls but I've heard people call it that before) don't bother me I'll play it.

What do you mean by an option to change the voices? Did they remaster the voices or something?

Yeah thats right. The Silent Hill 3 version isn't so bad but still unnecessary. But the remastered silent hill 2 voices are horrible and totally disconnect you from the experience imo. Luckily you can change Silent Hills 2 voice acting.

I really never played a silent hill game before, but i did download Silent Hill 1 on PSN a few weeks ago (it was free for PS Plus members).

So maybe i'll give it a try.

If your in to getting scared Sh*t less then go for the older ones (1,2,3) Or if you want have to work your way up to that EXTREME level of horror, (Like me) I would STRONGLY reccomend Origins and ****tered memories.
