G4, TV for nerds (Not trying to offend, that's what they call themselves lol) made a list of the 100 greatest video games of all time, and counted them down in a five hour countdown...Here is said list...

So, what do you guys think of it...Is it "accurate" or are there games on there you feel don't deserve it at all...I for the most part agree with this list...Nearly every game listed was a revolutionary game, and changed the way people viewed video games...Time to post your opinions fellow gamers!

Although i think Number 1 being Super Mario Bros just about tells you everything you need to know...

Not very imaginative if you ask me, and it also depends on what they mean by '' great ''

I don't believe in such lists, in the same way i don't buy james bond box sets,because there will always be new releases that screw up your beloved list.

ps, for what its worth, i couldn't even build a 100 list, because frankly, and honestly, most games are utter ****, that look better on a shelf than they do a list. Enjoyable yes, interesting...can be..but by in large, nothing '' great '' about most titles.

Still haven't cleared up the '' great '' part... are we gonig by sales, was it a survey done asking peoples faves... is there a method behind this or is it just some office monkey at G4 giving you his personal top 100.

As for Mario being number 1....the reason Mario and sonic are still fresh in the minds is because the ones '' started '' it were only ever interested in money, hence why mario is a lime light whore... because braindead office monkeys struggle to develop new games with new characters that are good and interesting... a little fat italian plumber who runs around in what looks like a self induced acid trip bored me as a child and bores me today. But then i've never hung with popular culture all to well.

Actually is Sonic even on that top 100........ I think this list was done by a 30 something year old mario fan boy who still holds a grudge.

This is too true.

Not only is RE4 above RE...it's 81 in the top 100 ?

There is too much Mario in this list for me, which leads me to believe this list is just someone personal collection in order or most played.

RE, took the forumula of the old arcade game , house of the dead ? i think it was, the shoot-em up... and then gave birth to Survival Horror as we all lovingly know it.

Errrrrr don't think so, FF7 is in the top ten of alllll time on alllll levels.. even if it were to get number 10... it still deserves to be up there, that game when it came out, and still is, Super Massive!

Final Fantasy VII was horrible. Look at the past Final Fantasy games and back to it- there are barely any similarities. I will admit I haven't beaten all of the Final Fantasy's, though. I lost my interest in I and II within the first hour. In my opinion, Final Fantasy VII was the turning point for the worse half of the series, not the better. And just forget XIII ever happened. (Although FFX still is in my top 10 games)

Also, a list of the top 100 games of all time would imply that the entire gaming population of earth played every single video game in existence to the end and voted on them. Every. Single. One. There are a bunch of great games missing, that at least deserve an honorable mention. Persona 3 and 4. And since this is not in series, I'm assuming they're implying MGS was better than MGS3. Although it is an opinion, MGS3 was the only game in the series to bring many gamers to tears and that had a coherent story. MGS was "METALGEARMETALGEARMETALGEARLIQUIDLIQUIDLIQUID." They cannot make this list without the help of at least a million people, or it implies a personal opinion.

"Great" is being defined in this as "Changing gaming forever"...That's why a lot of these make sense...For example, L, while Persona is great Story wise, they really didn't revolutionize gaming...RE4 did...It was a COMPLETELY redone and rebuilt from the ground up sequel that still stayed true to the series...RE1 is 81 because it more or less invented survival horror...RE4 brought it to the masses, winning SEVERAL game of the year awards...Mario had 4 games on there...Considering the AMMOUNT of Mario games that's not very many...For all of the ones mention REVOLUTIONIZED gaming...Nintendo has done a lot for the gaming world...Unlike Sony and Microsoft, that's what they SPECIALIZE in...Metal Gear was listed because at the time there were "Stealth Games" but MGS took it to a WHOLE NEW level...Also, FFVII deserves more than any other FF game to be on the list...While it's not the best in the series, it REVOLUTIONIZED the series in a whole new way...And this list wasn't composed by just one guy either...

I find it hard to believe an Italian plumber who goes around stomping on turtles and saving a dim witted princess is the reason why games today are what they are. Sure Mario started the genre we know as platformers, and it does deserve recognition. Though sometimes it gets a little too much praise.

I've always thought Mario was about a plumber who does shrooms and goes on a 'trip'... It seems to insinuate that anyway with all the mushrooms, and just plain weird things in that game. lol I'm glad Zelda is number 2, but I agree with you Mario does get a bit too much praise sometimes. There's great games I see way too far down on the list (i.e the first RE that started the survival horror genre.) and even Silent Hill.

Anyway, there's always something someone will complain about, so I'll just say I'm happy that most of my favorite games are on that list.

I agree with this fully. Bioshock is good but Deus Ex really pioneered a lot more. Half-Life pioneered scripted events. I can't say I like Half-Life much, and don't see why it is so loved, but it's an alright game.
