Resident Evil 6 It's Official, after RE6 Resi will be action all the way.

Resident Evil 3 had a great blend of action and horror. RE 4 was more action, less horror.

I just remembered... Capcom supported SOPA, didn't they?

Well RE3 was better than RE4, but you can definitely tell that Capcom still had Mikami Shinji working on it.

They said first that as a member of ESA (Entertainment Software Association) they support the SOPA bill, but later they denied stating that.

Yep. The quality speaks for itself in RE3.

Somethings not right here. Why state something and then deny it? Don't think I'd trust any employees of Capcom with polishing my boots.

I don't have the exact qoute but it goes along the lines of " Surival Horror games don't sell as well as their action counterparts, look at how many units Call of Duty sells, action games boost sales." well Capcom has basically said "we don't give two ***** about the franchise...we just want to make more money !!!" Vid Games will never be art if companys are selling the franchises soul to compete with a game that hasnt changed in the last 5 or more years, before you know it Brain training on the Nintendo DS will have Killstraks or something similair.

I fear this franchise is becoming a joke and not worth following it in the future, i wish it wasn't that way for me but it is.

That's not a bad theory. But people may rent more instead of buy the more ticked off they get.

hmmm...I get the feeling this kinda got lost in translation a bit. i think what he meant to say is that resident evil will never go back to it's slow-paced, top-down camera roots ... not that it won't ever be a scary game series again. i think they just mean they want to stick with the 3rd person shooter gameplay RE4 revolutionized. i mean, some of the scenes in RE6 look pretty dark and scary...

anyway, i hope that's what they mean. :p

personally, i can't blame them for wanting to spice things up with action. it's true- it's what sells. gaming has changed drastically since we were playing the classic RE games as kids. people don't seem to have the patience for stuff like that any more. it's all about explosions, big guns and mass amounts of gore. lol. even dead space and dead space 2 were pretty actiony games, especially in comparison to the classic resident evils...

i think as long as they keep the story interesting, the characters lovable, and the games stay legitimately fun to play, i will always love Resident Evil. :)

I think you'd be surprised at how many people will pick up Resident Evil 6 if they heard in the tagline "Back to its roots, less action and MORE HORROR" *queue some really wierd sh*t and character reactions* I think Capcom and alot of people underestimate the value of the Survival Horror market (of which THEY freakin created). Also the idea of survival horror has taken on several meanings which is had led to much confusion as to which market to sell to. But thats a risk Capcom isnt willing to make for some reason. Are they going bankrupt? or just greedy like the rest of the gaming industry.

Its sad to me because i whole-heartedly believe that a handful of us here on REN could team up with creators and collectively make a game not only worth playing but would probably put to shame whatever RE6 has in store. I dont like to discredit core fanbases i think they have much to offer.

But alas money is a source of our greatest strengths and weaknesses

For me, the first 4 sh games are great. It annoys me when fans rag onto sh4 becouse it was 'different'. I enjoyed it very much, sure the inventory system was annoying but that hardly breaks a game. Origens was, ok i suppose. Homecoming was just a peice of ****. Donwpour feels more close to the classic games.

I hope I didn't annoy you, I hardly have enough money nowadays to buy a silent hill game and be a fan of it. I just liked the 1st game and origins, I was kinda making a joke...I've never played the 4th game but saw a walkthrough :)

homecoming imo is very reminiscent of downpour, the graphics in both look pretty good.

hey, if capcom announced that i'd be first in line! i love the classic RE style. :)

there definitely are a lot of us out there who would absolutely love a truly scary, survival horror experience...but i'm fairly certain there aren't enough for the bazillions of dollars they want. i think you hit the nail on the head with the "greedy like the rest of the gaming industry" statement. :p

I work in a video game store so i have a decent idea on what sells to the general public. For example: Silent Hill downpour has been doing ok with the older crowd, but the younger ones aren't even taking a second glace. And then whenever some mediocre shooter comes out, there will be a line-up out the door for it! even if it hits like a 4 on metacritic. -_-

there's a lot of money to be made with trigger happy new-gen gamers, and they definitely want to tap into it. i totally agree that it's BS, but 6 is probably still going to be a great game. plus, the characters i love are there so i have to see what happens... lol.

Toocoolr4 is right. Overall, capcom has been going downhill since re4's release. Going from re4, re5, bad business practices such as re-releasing games to pay more money like street fighter x tekken on dlc(look it up on youtube) and street fighter 4. But as long as re keeps its identity(I am talking about same RE monsters, characters, and more- like the licker, zombies, and tyrants, than it may be great.

Idc what the plot is for RE6 is. I just want a dark setting, old characters and NO MOVING WHILE F***ING SHOOTING. Why do they care about what COD sells? I understand that they want to be successful but really? Really? Do they not see the people that take hours and hours of their day to spread/show their love for the series, or the people that have stayed loyal since the 90's? They should just name their company Corruptcom.

xMobilemux

I'll just get right to the ass kicking!
If Capcom wants to make money they should start selling t-shirts that say "Crapcom" on the front, there is millions of people out there that despise Capcom for what they've done to their favorite game series, so Capcom will sure as hell make massive profit off Crapcom t-shirts lol

Guys...Natman is totally right here...We don't know what the future of the games hold...We only have biased ideas based on our dislike for something that wasn't what we were used to...I agree, Capcom is greedy...But no greedier than any other company out there...I don't see anybody on this website hating on the fact that in the last five years there have been five different iPhones released...No, we happily talk on them and listen to our iPods while sittin on this very website...Apple, Microsoft, Capcom...It's all the same...Is it right...No, of course not...Be we are doing JUST as much an injustice by forming opinions without knowing anything for sure as they are screwing over us fans...Why should we stoop to their level? And if we do stoop to their level, what if they come back with something AMAZING and now WE'RE the bad guys cause we abandoned them...We can't for a second think that RE6 is going to be an exact replica of CoD just with zombies thrown in at this point in time...We must wait for the future to cast judgment upon Capcom and the fate of RE as a whole...

NO MOVING WHILE F***ING SHOOTING.
Yes! That ****ed me off so bad! You know how you can tell that COD and COD-like games are putting a dent in the industry today? When RE4 came out non-RE fans loved it (Along with many RE fans as well.) because it was new and different. But when RE5 came out you know what I got out of the bad reviews of RE5? They complained that you couldn't run and shoot! WTF!??? Clearly these folks have never even farted in the direction of a RE game if that is new to one and if they have a problem with it they should do the RE fans a favor and don't even touch another RE game again.

I got happy for a minute when I saw that I wasn't alone in being someone that wasn't happy about RE5 I thought they were gonna talk about the story or setting. Instead I heard complaints about it not being an exact copy and paste of their precious cookie cutter shooters.

I understand that companies have to evolve and come out with something that rivals other companies but you don't have to sell out. (Inless you want to take the cowardly easy way out.) Be creative like you used to be.

I didn't read this till after my last post.
Guys...Natman is totally right here...We don't know what the future of the games hold...
With all do respect KK, you keep saying wait and see what they have in store. Hun, i've been waiting to see what they have in store for years now. I waited to see what they had in store with RE5, was not happy with it. I waited to see what they had in store for the Chronicles. They released them as a FPS. I waited to see what they had in store for DMC4, was not happy with it. Waited to see what they had in store for the next one, and based off of my personal preference and standards for my DMC games, I'm 95% sure I will not like it and am already not happy with what they have done with it so far. ORC, don't find myself interested. Quite frankly, im tired of seeing what Capcom has in store, and aside from the RE6 trailer they have not given me much of a reason to have anymore faith in them.

We only have biased ideas based on our dislike for something that wasn't what we were used to.
Isn't that kinda how it's suppose to go? Everyone is a little bias every now in then because they have different believe systems and preferences. You see something you don't like you crutique it in hopes that someone acknowleges the fact that the majority has a problem with something. Nothing would ever get done if people just held their tongues. And it's not always a matter of not liking change, but how that change is done.

..I agree, Capcom is greedy...But no greedier than any other company out there...
So justify what a company does because he did it she did it? Not all companies are greedy and some are more greedy than others, somewhere you have to draw a line.

I don't see anybody on this website hating on the fact that in the last five years there have been five different iPhones released...No, we happily talk on them and listen to our iPods while sittin on this very website.
Actually, I have heard MANY people complain about ipods releasing too many ipods, that's why most people I know don't even have one anymore. Not to mention in a site about RE an ipod is not usaully the first thing that pops into conversation. XD

..Apple, Microsoft, Capcom...It's all the same...Is it right...No, of course not...Be we are doing JUST as much an injustice by forming opinions without knowing anything for sure as they are screwing over us fans...Why should we stoop to their level?
When you don't like a product that you spent your hard earned money on, you form and opinion critique it, ask for a better one or improvements. The game industry is no different. I would imagine one does more injustice by buying a product they are not happy with. We're not psychic but you don't always have to know every detail to make a conclusion that something is seriously wrong. I don't understand why I should feel bad or feel like im stooping to their level by having a voice about something I feel that could be much better.

And if we do stoop to their level, what if they come back with something AMAZING and now WE'RE the bad guys cause we abandoned them...We can't for a second think that RE6 is going to be an exact replica of CoD just with zombies thrown in at this point in time...We must wait for the future to cast judgment upon Capcom and the fate of RE as a whole.

So we're gonna be the bad guys because Capcom finally decided to listen to their fans? Because we said a few things about what a bad job they have been doing these past few years? I don't see how that adds up to us being the bad guys. (Not to mention some feel that Capcom had abandoned us long before we got the chance.)That's like someone sitting down smoking a cigerette on the job instead of mopping the floor and the boss ask him to clean up and he/she just keeps slacking off and then the boss fires them because of it. The next job that person goes to becomes the best employee in that place and does his/her job the best. Is the old boss the bad guy? No, that person was screwing up and got the results that was expected from such slack. If someone is doing something you think is wrong they need to be called out on it.

You said we can't wait to think that RE6 will be COD with zombies, isn't that basically when ORC looks like with RE chracters? Those are some of the complaints coming from the fans anyway. Also the topic saids after RE6, I think and hope RE6 will be great.

Sorry Ken K if I should harse. We don't agree on everything. You don't seem to notice that they have been completely ignoring the classic fans for the sake of the casual crowd that typically does not seem to have concern for originality and quality.

The casual crowd is not faithful, the causual crowd is the promiscuous guy/girl that will sleep with whats hot untill he/she grows bored of them and moves on to the next popularity contest. When this craze for shooters dies down and the causual crowd is done with them, what are they gonna do then? Model RE after the next over-rated game? In the long run they might just lose more money.

Just went over to Capcom unity to see what the discussion was over there regarding this, and of course, the staff over there are defending the hell out of this new change.

Here is a post from one of them

"Well you say they've lost tons of fans, yet it seems like each Resident Evil game sells better than the last, sooooooooo....can you really blame them for going with the stuff that works better? Also, ORC isn't a canon game, nor was it developed by the regular teams. As for survival horror, these days, it really has fallen into a rut. Even Silent Hill games have been doing significantly worse since Silent Hill 3.
Resident Evil is focused more on action these days, and part of that is based on critics. You can say the older RE games are the roots, but people will play them now and complain about a lot of stuff (inability to aim your shots, tank controls, save limits, etc.), and this affects their products. Capcom wants to make a game that does well financially and critically, especially when so much money goes into this series (RE6 is considered to be one of Capcom's biggest projects, if not THE biggest).

You say Capcom is becoming a follower, though the COD crowd is still very different (to the point where I would say the average Call of Duty player isn't really a gamer). At least RE players play the games for the stories and the gameplay, and the overall experience. Over half of Call of Duty players don't even touch the single player campaign.
"

These guys just disgust me honestly....

They are perfectly willing to isolate its fanbase in favor of a larger more generic/casual fanbase such as Call of Duty.
