Resident Evil has had quite a few polarizing entries over the years in the mainline series alone and I'm curious to know which game this discussion board considers the weakest. Therefore, I made a poll of the mainline Resident Evil games (yes, I consider the Revelations titles to be mainline) that tend to be debated the most among fans. Go ahead and let me know below!

The top worse RE games in my opinion are RE6 and Re3 remake. If I have to pick just one I guess I will go with 6.

Why do so many people think RE6 was a bad game?

Well, I like all RE games, but if I have to pick my least favorites, it would have to be RE5 and RE4. 5 because in my opinion it's not scary and too action focused and 4 because the story of Leon saving the presidents daughter is kinda ... lame.

For me, it’s a tossup between RE0 and RE6.

While RE0 looks nice, I really didn’t care enough for the story to bother revisiting it after my first play through. I may eventually revisit the game but for now, I’m good.
I wish they would have made better use of the S.T.A.R.S. Bravo team as a whole and focused more on their operation that lead them to the mansion… rather than Billy and Rebecca…

RE6… well that one is kind of obvious. It’s fun as hell to play and it has some interesting story concepts but CAPCOM really needed to focus the game’s story more and downscale everything that took place.

RE7 and RE8 are honorable mentions in terms of their controversial reboot. I do enjoy them for what they are but there is no denying that they’ve mucked things up even more so now. I think more fans would have taken to them had CAPCOM brought the needed closure with RE6. Also, the fact that RE7 and RE8 took themes from Revelations 2 but never acknowledged that game’s story or utilized its villain is offensive.

I have not played them all yet, but the one I did not like was RE0. Died a whole lot, the switching of Rebecca and Billy was annoying but got used to it later on. I still have it on PS3 but the save file I have on it is beyond beatable.

It's crazy how similar both games are after all the backlash RE6 got. I don't think RE3 Remake is a bad game, but it's definitely low on the list for me with games like RE6 and Revelations and not necessarily because I don't enjoy them either, but compared to the rest of the series, they're far more easier to pick apart.

This. RE7 and Village are games I struggle to rank against the rest of the series because they really don't feel like Resident Evil games to me in any immediate way that I can recognize a Resident Evil game to be, but they're definitely much better video games than some of the others and do get things right that others don't in terms of horror and game design yet I still kinda wish they weren't Resident Evil games. As isolated products, they're great games and can turn anyone into a fan. But as a long-time fan, I just don't see these games as Resident Evil in the same way RE4-RE6 were still Resident Evil games despite the drastic shift to action.

But if we're talking pure quality (or lack thereof), then I guess Resident Evil 6 takes the cake here. Revelations' problems can mostly be justified by its handheld roots and RE3 Remake is just more disappointing than it is bad. RE6 on the other hand, while commendable for its scope and ideas, is just too sloppy and unpolished of an experience with way too much going on for its own good.

Though I'm surprised to see RE0 in the conversation so prominently. It's always been a beloved entry for me, though truthfully, I played it once in 2009 and haven't really had any reason to revisit it since. I mostly remember watching my brother play it growing up. Strangely enough, I just started the HD remaster myself yesterday. Guess I'll see how it stacks up after refamiliarizing myself with it again.

Tô me on a personal level, of course, it'll always be Code Veronica. From a gameplay perspective, it ran back to a lot of good things RE3 had bought, like a dodge move, a dedicated button for firing in hazards like explosive barrels and the different branches(it was done by live selection in 3, but it could only be seen as different ways to make the story progress, while in Code Veronica, it's always the same.)

As for the story, it brought a lot of anime bio fantasy into the plot. You can just compare the design of Birkin's monstrous form or Nemesis to Alexia and Miss Ashford feels like she came from an anime instead of a horror movie. Also, it started the trend of cartoonish exaggerated villains, with Alfred and Alexia and then we had original Saddler (I very much prefer his remake incarnation), Salazar, Morpheus, Young Opera singing James Marcus leech, Norman from Revelations, Irving and even Wesker in RE5 feels a little cartoonish in his plan and mannerisms (which could be DC Douglas's way of voicing him though)

And finally, as a fun videogame, I would still put it below or in par with my least favorite games in the series, like zero and 7 (although purely on the fun I have while I play it, I would put CV over 7, but if I would analyze it as a whole, CV does more stuff that I personally don't like)

The only one I haven't played in that list is RE6, but considering what I've seen and been told about it I don't think I'm missing out on anything. The worst one is Revelations 1, by FAR.

Also, why aren't 7 and Village selectable?

RE6. It’s the Bayformers of the Resident Evil franchise. Basically, just explosion porn for frantic kids with ADHD and excessive amounts of caffeine. People like to call RE4 Resident Action 4, RE6 gives a whole new meaning to “diverting from its horror roots”. It also makes some weird story choices like… a mutant dinosaur for a boss? A clone Ada villain? But for me, its biggest fault is being so unfocused. Other than getting Chris and Leon for the first time ever, there was nothing really memorable about it.

It's just not what a RE game is to me...I also didn't care much for RE5 and would play 0 over 5.
