What Anticipated Movies/Games or Books Are You Looking Forward To This Year?

rondachewarrior

I'm not predjudiced, I hate everybody equally.
Not limited to these things but just wanted a warm-up topic.

I gotta say, a great movie I'm looking forward to is Sin City 2.

As for games, I'm too poor but I'd love to play Beyond 2 Souls, Assassins Creed Liberation and Destiny looks pretty awesome.

Books? Short in that department too but reading The Communist Manifesto but everyone's getting overhyped with "The Fault in Our Stars"

What about you guys?

Movies: Carrie. I know it has been out since last year, but unfortunately it came out at such a stupid time that my friends and I couldn't find a day to go to the cinema together, so I have yet to see it. Other than that, I'm waiting for Kick-Ass 2 and Frozen to be released on DVD.

Literature: The "Book of Dust" by Philip Pullman. After re-reading His Dark Materials lately, I can't get enough of it, and if my sources are correct, the Book of Dust might be released sometime this year.

Videogames: Sims 4. Although I'll probably stick with Sims 2 until 4 has a few expansion packs, because knowing Sims, you can't do much with the base game alone. Also, an announcement of a future Resident Evil or Tomb Raider would be nice.

I love His Dark Materials. I've never met anyone who has read them too, even though it's a famous series. I so wish they carried on making those into movies.

The movie I'm definitely most looking forward to is Divergent. It looks like it's gonna be a great adaptation of the book, and I really enjoyed the books (except for the third one which ruined it... -.-). I'm also looking forward to The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1 at the end of the year.

A book I'm really looking forward to getting in a few weeks is Watch Your Back by Karen Rose. I really like crime novels and I've liked her books since being 15. I'm hoping she'll have another one out this year as well. I don't really know what other books are coming out this year. I've fallen behind with my favourite authors, as there are so many of them and I'm always busy these days... :(

Games: ZeldaU (it's inevitable ), Smash 4, Mario Kart 8, and like Hel, I also want some solid info on RE7.

Sadly, it probably won't happen. :frown: I mean, the movie wasn't as good as the book anyway, but still, it would have been nice to have the whole trilogy on DVD. But if they ever do continue, they'll probably have to remake The Golden Compass first because Dakota Blue Richards, who played Lyra, is now too old for the role, and it would be stupid to just recast the main character for The Subtle Knife. I loved Nicole Kidman as Mrs Coulter, that's how I've always imagined her, even though she was described as dark-haired in the book.

I'm also looking forward to The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1 at the end of the year.

Sh!t! How could I forget that? I'm very much looking forward to that one too. I rarely watch the same movie twice at the cinema, but I did it with Catching Fire. (Although I have to say I didn't like the third book as much as the first two, but we'll see how it turns out.)

I know, I liked Dakota as Lyra, and I agree, Nicole Kidman was fantastic as Mrs Coulter.

Did you think that Catching Fire was a really good adaptation? I thought it was done brilliantly. The third book was slightly less good in my opinion too, maybe because there's not actually a Games in that one. Even so, I'm looking forward to it.

Indeed! When books get turned into movies, people usually complain about how much was changed, but in this case, I didn't pick up on any noticeable changes, or at least none that I didn't like. (It's great how they gave Effie a bigger role, it's really heart-breaking to watch her in Catching Fire, especially with that whole "We're a team!" thing.) Sure, there are little things, like the mayor's daughter still not appearing at all, but she's not important, so who cares. I'm annoyed by people who pick on every little detail anyway, like, did you know the cat was recast because fans complained it wasn't the same breed as in the book? However, it shows that the filmmakers really listen to their fans (because otherwise it wouldn't sell that well, would it?), so I'm sure they'll do everything in their power to make both Mockingjay parts as unforgettable as the previous two movies.

Yeah, Madge wasn't particularly important, she was only there a few times in the book anyway. And I love what they did with Effie! I did hear about the cat thing, I thought it was really persnickety of people to complain about that... Probably because there wasn't anything that major to complain about so they had to find something. People these days find fault wherever they can. I'm confident that the Mockingjays will be just as good adaptations and films.

EDIT: If you liked The Hunger Games you may like the Divergent series. Though the third book isn't as good (it really disappointed me), the first two are really good in my opinion.

Saw Kick Ass 2 on a stream and it's an AMAZING movie. Still waiting for a good quality version of Carrie though. You might also wanna check out Evil Dead Remake.

As for Sims 4, haven't played that in such a long time and I'll check Phillip Pullman out.

Lol yeah, I saw her on Skins and I almost forgot about that movie but I loved it.

I am counting down the days until Season 4 of Game of Thrones. That's pretty much it.

Waiting for that and The Walking Dead too!

Off the top of my head...

Games:
Halo 5
Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes
The Evil Within
Watch Dogs
Super Smash Bros. Wii U/3DS
Bayonetta 2
Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze
Quantum Break
Destiny
Mario Kart 8

I guess those are all the major games I'm sure about this year. Hopefully there will be plenty of surprise stuff, like a Zelda release in the fall? I can dream.

Movies:
The Amazing Spider-Man 2
X-Men Days of Future Past
Captain America: The Winter Soldier
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles
Godzilla
Dumb and Dumber To
22 Jump Street

I still don't know how I feel about TMNT. Being the Ninja Turtle fan that I am, I can honestly say that nothing has me excited for this Michael Bay iteration from all the rumors/leaks/details so far. But anyway, I guess that's really it for movies of 2014 for me at the moment. 2015 can't come any sooner... **** is gonna be crazy!

Everyone wants a piece of that Metal Gear Ass haha.

I read in a journal that Shinji Mikami confessed it was extremely challenging to engage his fans in terrifying situations in the horror genre cos they were so used to it but I hope it'll be promising. I've never played Zelda but I hope to one day.

Great taste in movies and I think Godzilla comes out on my birthday. I was ecstatic when I saw 22 Jump Street on Yahoo.

That Kojima knows how to make trailers. XD

Yeah, I agree with him for the most part. It's why some games start losing their scare factor after awhile because you know what to expect. That's why Remake was so amazing. They added new tricks to surprise those who thought they were just getting prettier visuals. I think we'll be fine with The Evil Within, seeing that he is aware of the issue. But then again, he could just be trying to cover his tracks if the game doesn't live up to the promise. I guess we'll find out later this year.

I reckon it starts losing it's appeal when they start handing their projects overseas or don't have the original team developing it *cough* Team Silent *cough* *cough* not to mention, they had George Romero write it so no complaints there (I've been thinking of buying RE: Anthology since I've never played 1 and never finished 2). I think RE all went downhill when Shinji Mikami didn't contribute to Operation Raccoon City, Resident Evil 5 and 6 but I share the same gut instincts as you thinking he's compensating for something.

I've also heard from the vine that Capcom is going bankrupt but I'm not sure if it's true.

Well, Resident Evil was doomed from the start. Shinji Mikami or not, Resident Evil 4 is where everything went downhill. Resident Evil 4 ignored its roots and settled with what was best for business. Who can blame them really? The series was in a rough spot. It needed change or it was death. Resident Evil 5 was a huge success despite what some of the older fans may think. Asking for horror after RE4 is really just asking for a dumb down product. It's not gonna go full horror, so why not embrace its action and give us a better game? If it weren't for that bold move, we probably wouldn't be bitching and whining right now about Resident Evil games not being scary. We'd be like Half Life fans waiting for announcement on something that doesn't exist.

I'm not doubting Mikami's abilities because what we saw RE4 was going to be looked amazing, even if it needed a bit of a revision. It's more the situation the series found itself in after losing its appeal that ruined the franchise. They played it safe and have been since then to keep the IP alive. And with The Evil Within, it looks like Mikami is finally making the game Resident Evil 4 never was, literally.

Capcom has been making a lot of bad decisions lately, so I wouldn't say it's too far off. Hopefully 2014 is the year Capcom gets their **** together.

Alot of people say that but it did receive game of the year and there were scary parts here and there (just no Dead Space material I guess and too many QTEs....but I still love the game like a child lol). I reckon Resident Evil 5 is where it went downhill cos it took years to develop and they spent more time merchandising it than actually sticking to the genre but I guess the only reason it's successful is because of Wesker and mercs (I CANNOT agree with co-op because The Sims has way better AI).

As for Mikami, I mean you'd have to question everything after all they've released (no offence) but they have 1 year to make up for all of it....and it's starting to sound like I'm in an abusive relationship.

Yeah, but game of the year doesn't mean that it was true to its roots. Resident Evil 5 is the best selling Capcom game ever, it just means it's popular. Don't get me wrong, I love both games a lot. I've put countless hours into both, and I'll tell you right now, Mercs had nothing to do with that for me. I know Mercs is popular in RE5, but you can't deny the quality of the game, much like RE4's. People like to hate on RE5... but forget that RE4 is where everything went wrong. From linear progression, to half-assed puzzle "solving," to checkpoints, to a major decrease in difficulty, etc.

Well, they've been releasing great products. Just not what us horror nuts want out of this series. Which really, don't even make up half of the sales of recent games. At this point, I don't know what to expect, because it could honestly go in any direction after RE6. Reboot, sequel, action, horror, mixture, who knows!?

Well, I'm looking forward to a LOT of movies and games.

Games:
The Evil Within
Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Z
Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze
Kingdom Hearts III
Super Smash Bros. for Wii U
Mario Kart 8
Hyrule Warriors

ANY New Nintendo or Sega Material Not Mentioned
Any new RE info.

Movies:
Captain America: The Winter Soldier
The Amazing Spider-Man 2
Legends of Oz: Dorothy's Return
X-Men: Days of Future Past
Transformers 4: Age of Extinction (If and ONLY if Mark Wahlberg is going to be in it.)
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles - As much as I hate Michael Bay, I've seen the casting, and it's PHENOMENAL. I'm an avid turtles collector, so I think this will be the turtle movie to end all turtle movies. I hate Megan Fox, but if she can play a simple, NON sex-symbolic April, I'll be a ok. And she BETTER have the right hair!
Resident Evil 6 - I'll be honest, I love 'em. And this is no different.
Max Steel - If this TRULY happens in 2014, I'll be ALL. F*CKING. OVER IT.
Clerks III - See above description

Games:
Kingdom hearts 2.5 HD Remix (PS3)
Super Smash Bros 4 (3DS)

Films:
The hobbit part 3
X-men: Days of Future Past

Hopes:
Resident Evil 7 / Revelations 2
Left 4 Dead 3

Tv series:
The walking dead Season 4 part 2
The walking dead season 5

Fair point, Resident Evil 4 did stray but it still had elements of it where they had general knowledge of the science of the parasitic organisms within their bodies. It was an extremely bold move since the original development of Resident Evil 4 didn't really look like it had any scientific background of BOWs and looked more supernatural but nonetheless, still my favorite game and...*shrugs* kind of a "all's well that ends well" in my opinion.

I've been meaning to see Clerks but never got around to it, I only wanna see Andrew Garfield in Spiderman (though I think Tobey Maguire plays a much better role in a socially awkward teenager), as with the resident evil movies, I'll still be dumb enough to....f*ck it, I'll save some cash and stream it lol.

Hobbit? Hells yeah, makes me homesick for New Zealand, I'm sure anxious about The Walking Dead and hopefully they won't leave as many plot holes in the beginning episode like season 3 and I did not know about Left 4 Dead cos I've only played 2, enjoyed it immensely but stopped playing it after certain disputes.
