Something odd for me is to correct a person's ACL tear (the ACL effectively keeps us balanced (along with the PCL and LCL ligaments) and able to stand up), one course of action is surgically graft the middle 1/3 of the kneecap/patella tendon and stitch it into the ACL. Funnily enough, the patella tendon is quite small and the kneecap essentially floats in our knee. So, to correct the ACL tear, the surgeon makes the knee more unstable (for some at least, in my case this is true).
Basically: To correct something, make it worse?
